Do's and Don'ts, places to go

FOOD
1. Dunston has a good name for Facilities and quality....of everything but food. Foods expensive and the A La Carte is frankly rubbish.
2. For those not at the BBQ there's a good restaurant round the corner called the Old Mill Stoke Holy Cross, for those that want a little walk etc see it here: http://www.stokemill.co.uk/ booking is essential any night, pricing is ok quality high and lots of quantity. Rio is a friend of the family so say we sent you.
3. For those on the cheap turn left out of the Hotel for the bird in the hand (1 mile or so but don't walk as the road has no footpath and is busy): see it here: http://www.norfolkpu...pe/swainsdc.htm Decent pub grub.
4. For those really on the cheap theres a Burger king back on the A11 junction at Thickthorne and a Macky D's a short drive into the city (turn Right at the big Vauxhall Garage).
PLACES TO GO
1. Avoid the City on Saturday from 2.00 as much will be closed on the South side due to a Home footy match against Birmingham. They close the main through road at 2 and again at 4.30 all the car parks will be chocka.
2. Little known one this......as you come of the A47 Southern bypass you will come to a large roundabout and turn right. Just before that Right turn there's a small side road exit to Caister st Edmunds. Go down there to the T junction (2 miles) and then turn right towards Stoke Holy Cross. 2-300 yards on the right is a small almost hidden entrance signposted to Roman Town. Caister st Edmunds was teh capital Roman Town in the area 1700 years ago and parts of the walls etc still stand. Great walk of nearly a mile round it and it can really blow those cobwebs out. see it here:

3. If you go into the city head for the Centre and then Magdalen street/Tombland. Opposite Tombland (big triangle with restuarants/cafe's around it) turn left into Princes street for the start of the oldest streets in East Anglia. Turn right at the top for the beginning of Elm hill. Used in many films (including recently Stardust) it's real old worldy, tight cobbled streets with wonderful shops on it including an art gallery, Teddy bear shop, Stamp collectors shop and Role Play gaming shop. Even has a wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia....m_Hill,_Norwich
4. Friday Night you will find me in the Hethersett Social Club about 5 miles away. I'll be having a drink with a few of our members staying at Park Farm:
Hethersett Social Club 38 Queens Road, Hethersett Norwich NR9 3DB has 4 snooker tables, 2 pool, darts and cheap beer (save about £1.50 a pint on Dunston Prices). If you want to come down let me know and we can arrange a minibus taxi that will cost you about £2-3 a head max.
Gotta go to work now. Anyone else from Norwich want to post up feel free.

Dun Cow is decent, I'd say you'd enjoy the BiH, as it's Lotus orientated being so close.

Horning - nice pub - take a boat out!
Potter Heigham - take a boat out!
There are many windmills, museums, boats and pubs!
Go to the North Norfolk coast by car from Sheringham around to Gt Yarmouth.
You'll have a fabulous time.

Caister Castle Car Collection - not bad a couple of old racing Lotus's and a good general selection of cars
Blickling Hall - Impressive esp if you drive round the front
Sommerlayton Hall - go on get lost - big maze not a bad place to look around
Crommer - Like Gt Yarmouth without the razzle dazzle.
Boat trip from Wroxham is quite good if you dont want to much hassle go on a big one where someone else drives and tell you about the stuff
If you are in Norwich
Cathedral - near where Kimbers said Elm Hill is - Nice and big if you like god
Sainsburry Centre - if you like a bit of Art (few Picasso's degas and the like - building by Sir Norm Foster was where they done pics for an S3 advert
Norwich Castle museum - if you like art Natural History etc. Dungeon and battlements tours are worth going on - if you dont have much time last hour before closing is £1.00 to get in. that when I go!!!
Bridewell Alley Museum - one of my favs all old stuff from local industry, clocks steam engines and shoes!
Fat Cat - if you like real ale - this is real heaven its been voted best pub in Britain about 3 times and as Britain has the best pubs in the world...must be best pub on earth esp if you like to get pissled!

Avoid: it's all good. But why go somehere like this and have Chicken
Whats especially good: Steaks are large and perfectly cooked. Seafood is truely superb. Monkfish and Sole especially....I always mix the 2 Surf and Turf baby!!
Prices: Starters from £4.95, mains from £8.95 but the best is £12 up. Surf and Turf £20 for 12-14oz fillet and 3 large garlic King Prawns. Wine from £12 but imported specially from Pepe's area of Spain.
For those not loooking too formal but local the DUn Cow is ...hmmmmm ok. Better is the Marsh Harrier towards the city on the same road as Dunston Hall. If you like Mexican, Burgers, Steaks (at the cheaper end to Fillet) spicy stuff then it's nice. Price is very good. Problems? Be patient it's a big place. No booking normally just turn up and wait for a seat. Self Serve as you have to go up to order. Typical Americanised place but nice food and reasonable quality.
Avoid: The Steaks, tough and Rump.
Whats Good: Pies, Sausage and Mash, most of the Mexican style cooking.
Prices £4 up for starter, £7 up for mains. Beer on tap. Normal cheap supermerket fayre on wines.
