Anyone fitted the protechs on their S2?
I just doing mine but I've no idea what the setting should be. SJ is on hols so thought I'd ask here just in case someone has the answer otherwise I'll have to wait 'till he's back.

Hey Pete,
I've fitted Protechs on the rear of my S2. When my car was in at Morland Jones they adjusted them for me.
Haven't got round to fitting the front ones yet so would be interested in seeing what the answer should be.

Fitted them on my TE and from memory the rears are set at about 11 clicks from soft and the fronts at 6.

HI, has anybody had any problems with protech dumpers? In my case both of the front dumpers fell apart at thread in the middle (junction). SJ replaced them immediately but after I spoke to him, he told me that the control knob (this is the small wheel to regulate the dumper) was destroyed while touching the springs and this caused the malfunction. The dumpers are fitted with control knob turned to the wheel. Is that correct or it should be turned to the center of the car.

There should be no way for the spring to touch the control knob, there is the possibility for another part of the suspension (lower arm generally) to touch the control knob.

Hi Andrej,
The control knobs should be facing inwards.

This is an 88 Stevens, I have never seen an S2 front end so I don't know if they are the same.
The original question on set up seems to be the ball of string question, bearing in mind someone will come along and say I'm wrong or that Protech is rubbish, I will offer my finding in running these shocks, which I have found to be a good product, just lousy support from Protech.
First there is no right or wrong there is driver preference, you could set them up on a race track and get it ideal only to find it's underivable on the public highway, race tracks are like billiard tables in comparison to the road.
My recommendation is to start at zero and leave them there for a week, see how it feels, it's not a race to see how fast you get them up to 10. IMO 10 is way too high any way, adjust the fronts up, if you found it way too soft jump a couple of clicks you can always come back. Remember one of the jobs at hand is to keep the rubber in contact with the road, set the shocks too hard and they will chatter. My fronts are set at 6, I went as high as 8, before coming back to 6, to give you an idea the ride is firm, but I'm changing the CD player to a solid state unit because CDs skip at the slightest bump, it's not harsh, it doesn't bang and crash over the bumps, it's just firm.
Part of your tuning process will be on varying road surfaces and conditions, it's all a compromise, comfort, handling, usage, you just need to come up with the right one.
Good luck, don't rush it.

Hi,
I'd like to thanks Pete and Andy, looks like I have fitted them incorrectly. Roger the dodger, If i see correctly, you don't have the control knob facing inwards, is that due to a difference between Giugiaro and Stevens cars?

I would assume so, if they were round the other way the setting control would foul the lower arm.
