look for a Blanchard grinder rather than a lathe with a cutter.

Not exactly in Birmingham but not far away in Cannock.

I had my disks skimmed and the car serviced at Karl Fisher Autos

He is an independant Porsche specialist and has serviced my car for the last three years. He used to own a Lotus so knows them well.

I would ask first why you think you need your discs skimmed?

Mine recurs all the time. New discs sort the shudder out for a year or so, then a £40 skim sorts it for another year or so, then new discs all over again. It just happens. I blame it sitting around idle a lot.

Inside I'm dancing

IMO the brake "warp" is irregular pad friction material build up, usually due to driver behavior...

I've been able to fix the judder by following this brake pad bedding procedure.

also read this.

I would have discs Blanchard ground if there are grooves, possibly for the warped feeling if it is not fixed by the above, but definitely not if the rotors are too thin already.

Keep in mind that the pads should be replaced if you had grooves and then have rotors Blanchard ground...

Brake skimming or grinding is an easy way for a garage to make money. I have been witness to mechanics over here recommending skimming due to grooving. I you don't have any sort of shudder or inconsistency when braking and your discs have grooves in them, I wouldn't worry unless they are quite deep and you are changing to new pads. Light grooving will actually increase your effective braking surface once the pad wears to the disc profile.
