hello everyone I'm going to refurb the chargecooler. Where is the best place to drain the system would it be where the two metal pipes are on the front passenger side?

That is where I drain from, but my car doesn't have the metal pipes, just rubber hoses with short connections and two hose clams.

I fitted a hose to the water out and placed the other end in a bucket. Turned on the engine and let the pump drain all the fluid.

not good to let the pump run dry, and that method won't be able to get everything out of the system.

You can use compressed air ~10psi into the bleed hose of the intercooler with a hose on corresponding port on the coolant reservoir going into a bucket. That way you can drain just the chargecooler box, without spilling a drop, to empty just that for removal to work on the engine or something. Best part of that method is that you don't introduce a big air bubble into the front radiator, as long as you don't drain all the coolant, so the system is really easy to refill.

cool, looks like i will pull the pipes but may clamp the rad ones 1st so easier to refill. i was going to do this today but fitted the rear speedo cable. still got the airbox and oil catch tank off so will drop the oil and remove the filter for easier access to the pump.

Replaced my charge cooler pump, what awkward job, I have removed the bleed nut from charge cooler but the internals look rusty and mucky, what is inside and can I do anything other than flush and blow out with airline, will the efficiency suffers due to corrosion or am I being a bit fussy

It wont last long if its corroded internally. If you install a new rubber impeller, then it will get chewed up fast. Mine was like that, first I tried machining out the pump and nickel plating it, also made a new shaft... had to replace it with an electric pump after about 9k miles.

The pump is ok, the impeller is still attached to the shaft, so for now it will do, later I will convert to electric pump, it is the charge cooler itself, looks great on the outside but corroded internally so I want to clean it, maybe I am worrying about nothing, but if it will improve the cooling then I want to clean it. Any thoughts

My system was corroded, I used a solution of a phosphoric acid, hydrofluoric acid and a surfactant.  It really cleaned my system out.

Then about 10 years later I wanted to paint my chargecooler, so I bead blasted it, had all the holes plugged up.  But then it started leaking coolant into the intake.

So be careful waht you do, that heat exchanger is somewhat fragile

Flushed the chargecooler today looks ok but noticed that I did not have any water coming out of the small rubber black pipe with white stripe that runs from cc to filer tank, removed the fitting and found it to be totally blocked, had to use a drill to clear it must have been like this for a long time, also removed and cleaned outside of charcoal canister does this need to be cleaned emptied or replaced

The charcoal canister is non-serviceable.  But they also do not last forever.  I replaced mine about a year ago for $50.

My new one is on the left, part number visible.
