Just replaced the front tyres due to the inside 2 inches of tread being completely scrubbed. Was impressed as they've done about 30,000 miles. Both tyres had the same wear pattern. the rest of the tread was fine and had plenty more left.

Was this a tracking issue or something else? Can the tracking be set at home or is this a proper garage job? The last 'reputable tyre specialist' didn't have a chuffing clue what to do when I asked them to check the tracking. The alarm bells started ringing when they asked if it was an Excel.. :D - muppets.

I've just had my Tracking done on my S3 turbo post new front suspension. When I took it to my local garage(which has the 4 wheel laser alighment set up) they were ready to go, except the toe in settings they had were for an 88 stevens. Their system did not have for any Lotus prior to 88. Just as well I'd brought my trusted Service Manual, as there is quite a difference between their S car readings & my service manual. I did find this odd as my car has later suspension & brake set up which I beleave is the same as the early S cars :D

But he set it up as per my book with no problems. I will be keeping a close eye on tyer wear just the same & she's settled a bit lower than was when was done. I was also please to find out that my rear was barely a mil out.

With the right kit it look fairly straight forward, he even showed me how it was done, which boosted my confidence a bit.

My recomendation, well apparently you can do at home with a drive over pad & measure ect, however I think for acuracy or as close to, then find a good garage with the right kit. Cost me about 20 odd quid so worth it to save on the hassel.

Hmmm I hope to be picking up my car from Esprit Engineering perhaps this week...

I would be coming home via the M27 / M3 intersection so could easily wander on over to Portsmouth on my way :P

Any chance you could post the 'settings' I would need to take to them as well please?! :)

Hi Pete

I used a place called 'A & S Motors', just off Privett road , near the centre of Gosport. tel 02392528080.
As general mechanics they seam to have a good rep and I've had no problems with them in the past.
If you like we could meet up & I would be happy to take you down there as they are only 2 miles away. and your welcome to come round for a cuppa & talk Lotus, of course. Plus it would be nice to have another lotus on the drive.

You would, of couse, be welcome aswell Robin. I am about 20-30 min from the M27/M3 intersection(depending on traffic) I would love to see yours now it hasn't got door handles & new alloys isn't it. I will PM you both my tel no.

Google Maps Rule!

Now all they need to do is suss a version that would allow me to actually post the map itself here and they would be the online mapping gods! lol
