Just got a reminder for my blood donation next Thursday - it will be my 37th.

John got me started and between having kids and tattoos I have kept donating as I think it is a great thing to do. It takes about half an hour from signing the consent form to having a cuppa and biscuits. Not to mention you are screened for any 'nasties'.

Was wondering who else gives.

Yep, have donated since my student days, up in the 60s now for armfuls given. As a biker (aka organ donor!) I always thought it was a kind of insurance policy and likely to be needed by me at some stage. Got away with it so far....but you never know.

Its an easy thing for me to do, I've obviously got too much of the stuff and it pours out in a couple of minutes. I always feel sorry for some of the little people who try valiantly and lie there for 15 mins wringing their arm out, all for a couple of drops.

I have tried a couple of times here in Australia, but they won't accept my donation because I am English and lived in the UK and am a mad cow risk apparently. Bizarre, I have been here 18 years now and moooooooo, urrgghhhh , mooooooooo. :turned:

Ditto with the US on the mad cow disease thing - kinda ridiculous

I tried to give blood and got refused because of the mad-cow thing but they took me to an area at the front of the coach that was travelling to different sites to collect blood and sat me down to speak to me. As the form said you can't give if you are a junkie or practice unsafe sex, I did wonder what the others thought the reason why I was being refused was.

Is it selfish? Certainly. Next question.

Shamefully I don't Sue, I'm totally squeamish around blood and if I get a blood test I have to shut my eyes and warn them that I need to keep them shut until everything is out of sight.
