Guys,
I have a 2000 V8 which runs and drives great... except... I was driving up a highway on-ramp today, and all of a sudden, a "ticking" noise started to develop. The noise speeds up and gets louder as the transmission speed increases (but not related to engine speed as it only does this while in gear). It "ticks" in 1/2 second invervals at lower RPM's while in gear and progressively ticks faster and louder as the transmission spins faster.
It feels strong through all gears, but I'm afraid to push it and ruin something....
Any suggestions as to potential problem?
Could it just be low fluid, or are we talking a major overhaul?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Chris Bowers

You sure it's not a bolt or nail in your tire(s)?

No.. I wish it was that simple... It is a loud sound coming from the tranny, and I can actually feel it through the stick shift! I'm wondering if a bad C/V joint might be the cause?
Thanks for the idea though.

Hi chris, you don't actually say but this noise is it in unison with engine speed or road speed?
If it is the latter than both my rear wheel bearings failed at around 30,000 miles producing exactly the symptons you describe. I've also noticed that the left hand rear hub nut has a habit of loosening itself as it is a standard clockwise thread held in place merely with a nylok - this too will cause the same 'ticking' noise.
