Lotus  Esprit Turbo SE (1991)

Date Added: 13 April 2008 - 10:55 PM
Owner: Atle
Short Description: Model: Lotus Esprit Turbo SE
VIN: SCC082910MHF60325
Price new in the UK (1991): GBP 46,300
Price new in Norway (1992):  NOK 1,243,500
Number of SE model units produced in all: 1608
Number of SE model units produced in 1991: 113

Owned since July 2007, purchased from Lotus Garage Pfenninger, Zumikon Switzerland with 54,000 km on the clock - in pristine condition. Left the production line February 28th 1991; was however not registered before January 2nd 1993. Swiss registered since new, I am the third owner it appears. It is safely warm-garaged in winter. In its fourth season, I have had no problems at all.

This car is a piece of historic, automotive art.

Engine:
The unmodified 2,2 liter 4-cylinder charge-cooled turbo with 246 BHP regular/280 BHP boost and 345 Nm torque. Performance 0-100 km/h in about 4,7 seconds, top speed 265km/h. Curb weight 1265 kg.

Modifications:
Remus 4-pot exhaust and Avon tires (by PO); a blow-off valve and tailgate lifters (Ramspott & Brandt); and the AC/vent display panel (Telstar One, New Zealand). Ventilation knobs (LotusPerformance), gear knob (Moto-concept), and floor mats & door sills (Ramspott & Brandt). Furthermore, Flamebeater fire extinguisher (Elise-Parts), Momo Fighter Zebrano steering wheel (Torshov Bilrekvisita), Enamel Union Jacks with Lotus logo on the front wings (Auto Regalia); alloy gear surround from Lotus Prepared by Claudius; hand brake lever from Ramspott & Brandt; Blaupunkt Bronx stereo with Morel Integra and Magnat speakers from local stereo shop. I have moved the Design by Lotus badge forward of the rear wheel arch. All modifications are reversible.

Service:
First service after buying the car was a full C-service in June 2009 (at 62,000 km), carried out by Lotus specialists "Norsk Chassis Teknikk" (Solbergelva). Front left wheel bearing was also replaced. Otherwise the garage stated that the car was very well kept and in excellent condition. 2010: Re-Connolized leather interior by Swissvax leather dye, blended accordig to submitted sample. Expensive but worth it.

For surface treatment I use the Swissvax range (Swissvax Concourse)

Flash June 2011, OZ Futuras with brand new Conti Sport 3's. Like getting a new car. The difference from the old Avons is titanic. Now I know !!what this car is all about

Cigar lighter light in opposition

20 June 2011 - 08:38 PM

Hi all,

So I finally got around to changing the bulb in my left door cigar lighter. However, it lights up when the car is turned off, and shuts off when I push the main light switch. In other words, opposite of what it is supposed to do.  Not only that. When I dim down the cockpit lights, the cigar lighter brightens up.  When I dim up, the bleeding light dims down. The right light works as it is supposed to. What is this? I can't figure it out. Anybody have a solution? I have to disconect the battery now, when parking!

Thanks,

Atle.

It's out!

12 April 2010 - 08:25 PM

It's out!!! After 5 months in winter storage it fired happily, eager to be lurked out into the splitting spring sunshine from the murky basement it has shared with a dozen other tarpaulin-covered motors (including the only Lancia Stratos in the land) during the polar season. For the next 7 months, my drive is a Lotus Esprit.

Winter storage done deal!

18 November 2009 - 08:16 PM

So, after two winters in frozen garage shack, finally got a safe and warm winter storage for my Esprit, at a very good price. Basement of a barn at a golf course, it is in good company with another red Esprit SE and a few other exotics. Now I rest relieved!

Tucked it away 4 weeks ago - which was rather silly as winter has yet to arrive. It's warm still! Anyway, it's raining a lot...

Brace yourself

11 September 2009 - 08:50 PM

Dear all,

So, after a lot of digging and snooping around, a fellow Esprit owner here finally came up with the actual tax-value price of my 1991 SE as it would have cost in an Oslo dealer showroom in 1992:

1,230,240 Norwegian Kroner.

Or: 208,381 USD, or 124,722 GBP, or 142,934 Euro.

1,230,240 Norwegian Kroner in 1992 was equivalent to 1,740,000 Norwegian Kroner in 2008. Or: 292,585 USD, or 175,120 GBP, or 200,692 Euro.

This is not a joke. This is the Norwegian Socialist Party luxury tax. If my Esprit was new, for sale in Oslo today it would have cost 300,000 USD.

From it was new until I bought it, the car had depreciated with 1.9 Euro per kilometer! Now I hope it has flattened out and will start to rise! It is after all, in excellent condition. As good as new!

I just love car depreciation!
