Cambelt tensioner piston

23 September 2011 - 01:02 PM

Hello all,

Rebuilding my cambelt tensioner for my S1 and I was wondering how tight the fit should be between the nylon piston and the tensioner body where it sits in.
I think mine is too tight as I can't simply push it in, only if I tap it with something I can get it in. I would think this should slide with some friction to act as damping for the tensioner. This is also probably why I couldn't push the tensioner bearing and belt back as said in the manual when I removed the belt.

So, is this piston supposed to be able to move easily?

for clarity, bore and piston of the tensioner below

Thanks,
Simon

Clutch slave cylinder

02 November 2010 - 03:05 PM

Having broken off the nipple on the clutch slave cylinder, I was happy to find out through this forum there was a cheap alternative from land rover available..

I've read several times it's (almost) the same part for the land rover series 2a, but when I google it or asked the local landrover guy. This shows up:

which is clearly not the part I want.

This range rover P38 part looks more like it though:

What am I missing here ?

I should add that this is for a Esprit S1, and the part I took off looks like this:

Dellorto accelerator jet

03 October 2010 - 04:29 PM

Hello again,

While trying to set the carbs right we came accross the fact that accelerator jet wasn't doing much, because it stuttered when pumping the gas. So I screwed them out and gave them a clean. It's a lot better now, except on very low revs it still stutters.

BUT I noticed mine doesn't have the spring (number 51) between the screwplug (50) and the jet itself (5) as on the drawing. Does this compromise the accelerator pump's working? Should I have these, any thoughts?

New Esprit S1 owner

03 September 2010 - 06:51 PM

Hello all,

This is my '78 Esprit S1, chassis 155J, originally a dutch car. Still original engine 82000km on the clock. I think it's been rebuilt once (not sure about this)

I posted a topic about my malfunctioning brakelightswitch, if you want have a look..

Tell me what you think about the car.
Some pictures:

Interior is OK, needs a clean:

Engine ran perfectly on trip hom (180km, but now it is extremely mis- and backfiring, think it's the spark plugs, checking them tomorrow):

the never used (or so it seems) spare wheel:

I love the radio that's fitted, could this be original? it works on the built in speakers and is fitted partway behind the carpet (Think it's a pioneer KE5000)

This has come in handy :)

Brake Lights

01 September 2010 - 06:41 PM

I've got S1 Esprit and was trying to fix my brakelights today..

I know my switch works, I measured it with a meter. And the wiring is OK; the brake lights work when I connect the two wires.. So what's the problem?
I guess the plunger doesn't reach the brake as I can't screw the switch all the way. How deep do I have the screw in this switch? I think I tried the lights (measured Ohms) at 1000 positions but none seems to work.

Then I got fed up with it and just installed an extra bracket for mounting the switch as a temporarely  solution...

PS this is my first post, I will soon introduce myself and the car in another topic
