The clever people in the Classic Team Lotus Composite shop recognised the type 97T nosecone as an iconic piece of Team Lotus F1 design and livery, so they dug out the mould and recreated them.

Then the clever people in the merchandising department reckoned the nosecone could be displayed and used at the same time….as an uplighter. The nosecone is sold complete with a wall mounting plate, and it is straightforward to acquire a suitable low voltage uplighting unit, should you so wish.

Of course the 97T is most famous for Ayrton Senna’s first Grand Prix victory at Portugal 1985. Indeed, Ayrton himself said that this was his greatest ever race. The 97T was very competitive throughout the season, taking 8 poles; 7 by Senna and 1 by De Angelis. Senna won brilliantly at Estoril where he won by over a minute in monsoon conditions; his second win came at Spa in a wet/dry race. Elio took a very popular win at Imola and was a leading Championship contender for most of the season.
