Lotus 1-2 in Glover Trophy Race at the Goodwood Revival

This weekend’s prestigious Glover Trophy race at the Goodwood Revival saw a great result for the Lotus marque; first and second. Starting from the front row, Andy Middlehurst and Nick Fennell - both driving Lotus type 25s - put on a stirring display of Lotus history in front of 60,000 spectators at the fabulous Goodwood Motor Circuit. Nick Fennell took the lead in a closely contested start. On lap four, Andy Middlehurst was able to overtake his Classic Team Lotus team mate and managed to pull out a gap to secure victory. A Relatively Quiet End To An Exceptional Year The last event of a busy season was Portimao where we ran Andrew Beaumont in his type 76 and his LDS.  Andrew has done really well throughout his first full season of historic motorsport, with an excellent finish record and numerous podium finishes.  He rounded it off with another good performance in Portugal, finishing 5th & 6th in the 76 and 9th & 8th in the LDS. Last month saw the 2nd huge gathering of Lotus cars in Japan, an epic event held under the banner of 'Japan Lotus Day'. A traditional heartland of Lotus enthusiasm, the Fuji Speedway was chosen at the ideal location for Lotus owners to get together and enjoy the event. Quarterly Review 2nd Quarter 2011 Certainly a packed quarter this one, with races and events nearly every weekend. Espiritu De Montjuic - Catalunya Classic Revival was first up. It was a three day programme of classic motor racing at the Montmelo race track near Barcelona to celebrate the old racing days on the Montjuic hill in the centre of the city. 3 Type 79′s on track at Snetterton

  In what is a once in a lifetime event, 3 Lotus Type 79's took to the track at Snetterton to celebrate the completion of the restoration of Chassis 1 for it's new Dallas, USA based owner, Paul Rego. Paul is a life long Lotus fan and jumped at the opportunity to purchase the car when it became available.  After he saw a well restored Type 49 he enquired as to where the work had been carried out, hence it returned to CTL in Hethel.  Nick Yallop was lead mechanic, overseen by Chris Dinnage. 79/1 completed a few laps at Hethel on Tuesday before going to … [Read more...]

Lotus owner and enthusiasts clubs were invited to send representatives to visit the Lotus factory in Hethel and the Lotus Renault GP facilities at Enstone to catch up on what the companies have been working towards of late and to gain an exclusive insight into the inner workings of a competitive and successful current F1 team. The two-day event included VIP access to parts of both factories not usually available, a rare treat of being able to take a camera on site and time with senior staff including Q&A sessions.
