Gutierrez wins GP2 sprint in Hungary

Esteban Gutierrez won the second GP2 race of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend from pole position. Having finished Race 1 in eighth place, the Mexican was awarded the reverse grid pole ahead of Nathanael Berthon. He made a good start, maintaining his lead through Turn 1 and then maintaining a comfortable gap to the Frenchman. When Berthon posted a fast lap and cut the gap to under a second, Esteban responded by setting the fastest lap of the race, a 1:32.348 on Lap 15, which was a full 1.5 seconds faster than the Racing Engineering driver on that lap. Victory for Esteban Gutierrez at Silverstone in GP2

Lotus’s Esteban Gutierrez took his second feature race win on the bounce at Silverstone, promoting himself to third in the drivers’ standings. With Stefano Coletti demoted on the grid for failing to provide a fuel sample, Gutierrez and team-mate James Calado started fourth and fifth on the grid. The wet conditions were extreme, and the decision was taken to drive the first seven laps behind the safety car. Once the race got underway, Esteban held his position. It was the first win in the series for the young French driver. Followed by a fine 5th place finish in the second race, it enabled him to move up from 15th to 7th place in the overall ranking.
