Lotus Cup UK & Elise Trophy alongside DTM this weekend at Brands Hatch

This weekend Lotus Cup UK and the Elise Trophy race alongside motor racing’s stars at Brands Hatch, as support to the DTM. Rob Boston and Steve Quick are the form men in the Elise Trophy after intense battles in the opening round at Silverstone. They will face stiff opposition with Ken Savage, Phil Stratton-Lake and Craig Denman leading the charge in a capacity 32-car field. Damien Hirst design on Lotus Cup UK Exige

The Maidstone Sports Cars race team have unveiled a special livery for their Lotus Exige race car, which is competing in this year's Lotus Cup UK Championship. The livery uses a design from acclaimed artist Damien Hirst. The Maidstone Sports Cars Exige has already raced in the opening round of the MSVR-organised Lotus Cup UK Championship at Silverstone. The second round of the 2012 Lotus Cup Europe season saw the drivers return to the Magny-Cours circuit in central France, home to the French Grand Prix for nearly 20 years. A fast track, with several technical corners, it would provide a challenging lap for the competitors, albeit one that many had driven on two previous occasions.   The Lotus Cup UK and Elise Trophy seasons got underway at Silverstone on 15-16 April, supporting the FIA Formula Two Championship and provided three closly-fought contests, characterised by packed grids. A huge Elise Trophy field of 43 cars qualified for the two Saturday races, with many new faces joining the regulars. Williams & Donnelly team up in Evora GTN for Lotus Cup UK

LoTRDC stalwart Steve Williams will team up with former Lotus Formula One driver Martin Donnelly in an Evora for a joint assault on the Lotus Cup UK title. Williams, whose eponymous garage business will build and prepare the car, is taking advantage of the new GTN kit offered by the Norfolk manufacturer.   Lotus on Track Racing Drivers Club launched their 2012 season at the MotorSport Vision Racing Media Day on Tuesday, which will see continued expansion in their sixth year of racing. The Elise Trophy continues to provide some of the UK’s finest club racing, whilst Lotus Cup Europe visits some of the continent’s finest venues. Lotus Cup drivers have been given the opportunity of racing at the home of the Italian GP this spring. On the weekend of 9-11th March, drivers of Lotus Cup UK & Europe will join those from Lotus Cup Italia at the opening round of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship at Monza. Supporting a major event which will see the FIA WTCC joined by its European counterpart, the FIA European Touring Car Championship (ETCC), and the Auto GP single seater series, the Lotus Cup drivers will compete in a 50 minute race. For the last five years, LoTRDC have attracted new competitors into the world of motorsport through the Elise Trophy, Lotus Cup Europe and from this year, Lotus Cup UK. This expansion continues with the announcement of a new championship in 2012 as Lotus Cup UK grows. With an average of 40 starters amongst the 8 rounds in 2011 and new enquiries from entrants coming in on a weekly basis, Lotus Cup UK Production and SuperSport championships have been formed. Elise Trophy 2012 Calendar

LoTRDC have released the 2012 Elise Trophy calendar, for the sixth season of the series. The technical rules remain essentially unchanged from 2010, with cars running Rover engines up to 151bhp at the hubs and Toyota power plants up to 172bhp. The race format is also retained, with two 20 minute races at each meeting. Whilst the Elise Trophy is aimed at novice drivers and promotes a social atmosphere, entrants can also compete in the Lotus Cup UK Championship, which will share many of the dates and venues. Evora takes the spoils in second Lotus 1000km

Gavan Kershaw and Stuart Hall have won the second Lotus 1000km, driving a Strattons-run Evora. Whilst the team were favourites for victory, they were pushed all the way by last year’s pacesetters GWS. The thirstier V6 was barely three minutes ahead of the challenging Exige and potentially required an extra stop before the 515-lap distance was completed. However when Jamie Stanley brought the GWS car in for an unscheduled stop in the final hour and was unable to resume battle, the matter was settled.
