Disappointing result for Indycar racers in Kentucky

KV Racing Technology drivers Takuma Sato, Tony Kanaan and E. J. Viso finished 15th, 17th and 23rd respectively today in the penultimate race of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season, the Meijer Indy 300 on the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway oval in Sparta, Kentucky. In the final IndyCar event in Japan hometown hero Takuma Sato finished 10th in the Indy Japan The Final at Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Tochigi, Japan.  Teammates Tony Kanaan and E. J. Viso placed 17th and 21st respectively. The race was contested on the 2.983-mile, 14-turn TRM permanent road course for the first time following eight events on the Twin Ring Motegi oval beginning in 2003. Lotus driver Tony Kanaan overcame an horrendous crash in the morning warm-up and long odds to finish third today in the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix on the 2.04-mile, 13-turn downtown temporary street circuit in Baltimore, Maryland.   E. J. Lotus driver  E. J. Viso, finished ninth today in the Grand Prix of Sonoma in Sonoma, California.  Takuma Sato finished 18th while Tony Kanaan suffered a mechanical problem and placed 28th. Viso, No. 59 PDVSA – KV Racing Technology – Lotus, who was the fastest of the KVRT – Lotus trio and led the team in qualifying for the first time this year, started ninth.  He drove a solid, patient race and never put a wheel wrong on the challenging 1.968-mile, 12-turn Infineon Raceway permanent road course. Lotus placed two cars in the top-five as Takuma Sato finished an IndyCar career-high fourth and Tony Kanaan placed fifth today in the Honda Indy 200 on the 2.258-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.  Teammate E. Lotus will be looking to move up in the standings when the series resumes street and road course racing beginning this weekend with the Honda Indy Toronto on the streets of Toronto, Canada. Lotus driver Tony Kanaan finished second tonight in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 on the 875-mile D-shaped Iowa Speedway oval in Newton, Iowa.   Teammate E. J. Viso battled a difficult car and finished 17th while Takuma Sato was having a strong race, but had a late race incident and finished 19th. Sato, No. 5 KV Racing Technology – Lotus, qualified with a two-lap average speed of 180.375 mph on the .875-mile D-shaped oval.  Tony Kanaan, No. 82 GEICO- KV Racing Technology – Lotus, went out second of the 25 cars making a qualifying attempt and posted a speed of 179.833 mph putting him on the pole until Sato, who went out 21st, made his run.  Kanaan will start a season-high third.  E. Takuma Sato overcomes penalty to finish 8th in Milwaukee 255

Lotus driver Takuma Sato had to overcome a drive through penalty to finish eighth today in the Milwaukee 225 on the Milwaukee Mile in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tony Kanaan battled for the win until late in the race, but fell victim to an incident and finished 19th while E. J. Viso was fighting for a top-four finish when he too was victimized and finished 20th.
