Do you think its ok to reuse the secondary shaft nut? apparently no longer available and I don't want it coming undone or failing at some point Thanks Andy

I've read the service notes and various other threads about this but there is one thing I'm unsure about. When tightening the crown wheel nut I assume it forces the bearing race out towards the crown wheel. If you then decided its to tight, then undoing it would not draw the race back as its pressed into the case. or am I missing something here any thoughts? Cheers Andy

Hi all, Is there anyway to easily identify which casings are which? ie UN1-16 27 or 28. I'm in the process of stripping my spare gearbox, it is a 'reconditioned' unit. When I bought the car the gearbox failed and they fitted this one. It Broke again, 2nd gear, so I fitted another box which I had acquired. So the gearbox has the plastic speedo drive from the diff with the actual drive to connect a cable to in the casing. I then noticed that the Crownwheel has UN1 16 T244 marked on it. (looks hand engraved) I'm wondering if the casings are the older ones too. I heard they are not as strong especially when combined with the UN1-16 C&P. Thoughts

What are peoples thoughts on the GTO upgraded Primary shaft. I think this is the only one currently available. The thing that puts me off, apart from the cost is the changed gear ratios of 1st and 2nd. I must say that after stripping the gearbox and looking at the shaft it does look somewhat weak. I was planning to run an LSD which would I assume put more strain on the shaft. Cheers Andy

Hi Guys, I have a problem with my clutch which happened whilst driving everything was fine until the pedal completely jammed. I have a V8 with uprated twin plate clutch. The pedal has some movement so I think the master cylinder is okay. The fluid level is about 4mm lower than normal. Has anyone had this problem before? Any thoughts, do slaves jam up or could it be the release fork?

Hi all, I was thinking of replacing my cast iron bell housing for the alloy one. has anyone done this, or does anyone know what additional parts I may need. Clutch fork, pivot, slave etc?? I have the dual clutch and its an early 96 so should have the alloy bell housing already but it doesn't?? Cheers Andy

Okay so as the title implies I'm getting confused, let's set the stage here. Land Rover Series 2a Clutch Slave Cylinder put on in November 2021 Wildwood Clutch Master Cylinder put on about 2 months ago I took the car out last night and had some fun, car seemed fine. Driving home no issues until I decided to finally try brake boosting for once. I never do this so it's a little new to me but I applied the brake some while keeping speed and built a little boost then let off and did a pull from 2nd to 3rd. Seemed fine, I can see why people do it but I thought nothing more of it then I went to shift and the pedal felt like it had a dead spot or a lack of normal …

Hello everyone, After not driving my Esprit V8 (2000; stock, just de-catted, 9000 miles) too much during winter, I noticed that there are slight vibrations when downshifting. Vibrations appear exactly at point where clutch "grips" and can be felt through the whole chassis. Interestingly, when heel-toe downshifting - there are no vibrations. Any idea or recommendations what the root cause could be please? Any advice from you veterans is more than appreciated!

Hi Guys, I am looking for some advice on clutch options, my car has some judder only when on an incline, but on the level it is a treat, as mentioned on here before about the pick up pipe dropping of into the sump pan due to vibration and that is the last thing anyone wants to happen to any motor! so thinking ahead what are the options? I see on some of the specialist web sites they do a recon clutch £650, then there is a upgrade heavy duty option for about £1100. Has anyone any experience of these options? Also has anyone fitted the new style clutch cylinder as the original is not available did this improve the clutch? Thanks for all for the advice / Info…

So far I have been able to find upgrades for the older Espirts but nothing for the V8 version it seems or I am misreading it. But the new Espirt I bought, along with the other problems I am addressing, shifts horribly... no grinds or anything it's just the worst feeling shifter I have ever used and I have a feeling this is more the age and components in the shifter linkage than the shifting itself. I keep taking my time and not forcing anything as I know these transmissions do not respond well to that but I would like to get it cleaner and crisper. Could anyone direct me to what I am missing for a refresh kit, or upgrade I know in other vehicles with cable clutc…

Hi all, Had my car in to have some work done at a local independent. My gearbox was rebuilt 8years ago by a dealer with new input shaft and clutch the big ticket items. I was experiencing issues with quickly changing the gears 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 plus the gear lever would move half an inch when going on /off the power. So put the car in to a local independent to have some work done. The clutch was fine e.g. no judder before the gearbox was worked on and now i have significant clutch judder which is just and I mean just about tolerable when moving off but when come back down the gears and using the gearbox I now also get judder which i've never had before? Does an…

Not sure if this has been shared but I wanted to share that I found a direct replacement and upgrade option for the Clutch Master Cylinder in my 97 V8 car. Available at Summit for less than $80 so really nice for US Owners, not sure if it may work for others but they have three options: WIL260-15096 is .62 WIL260-15097 is .70 WIL260-15098 is .75 I was going to try the .70 but it was out of stock so I went with the .62 so as not to push to much more fluid and create a different problem with the Clutch Slave. However going to the .75 might be needed if I can find an option for the newer style clutch Slave systems used like I want to. I will get some web link…

Hi All, Is there any reason why the clutch pipe on my V8 is 1/4" while all the brake lines are 3/16" ? I wouldn't expect 1/16" change in pipe diameter to have an appreciable impact on the operation of the clutch in terms of pedal feel or operation, am I missing something from my physics education? Finding M10 x 1 male fittings for 1/4" pipe is quite a challenge (especially in stainless steel). cheers -Chris

While I was digging up information for the rebuild on the car I’m still unsure where I will end up with the transmission. I’m hoping the current UN1 box will hold up for 12 months until I can comfortably afford a good rebuild on it with the strengthened parts as with the unexpected bills on the engine rebuild its pushed me well over budget at the current time. Ssshhhhhhhhhh with the UN1 mentioned as a bit of a weakness (although there isn’t many cases of knackered transmissions) I did hear rumblings regarding the Porsche conversion. i messaged Kennedy engineering who confirm they have a kit available to fit the boxster 987 S gearbox to the lotus v8 engine. Th…

So after getting some flack about still having this red hose on my car (another thread). I ordered a new braided one. After inspection today it appears that I have a hard line running the length of the car underneath alongside the power steering pipes. It runs up the chassis tube to just level with the slave cylinder where there is a section of braided line to join the two. From the master cylinder there is a red plastic hose, which I guess joins the hard line somewhere below. Does anyone know if this is normal on some cars? One less job😀 ps I have never had any couch issues.

Is there any adjustment on the 5th gear selection on a post 97 V8? ive had the gearbox apart to reseal it and have now got super smooth changes 1st to 4th but going into 5th always feels tough and like it grinds in for a split second. When I’m trying to get out of 5th it takes a bit of pull and not like any of the other gears. I’ve looked in the manual but can only see a section on setting up the pre 1997 boxes with the translator

Is there anyone out there who has any experience with Quaife's HD 6 speed sequential transaxle? I have one in my Esprit and am interested in contacting others who have them to compare notes on their operation and gearchange characteristics.

Hello everyone, I acquired an old latest type gearcase endhousing. Through that is the cross shaft which have one cable connector welded on to it's left side, and the other cable connector pressed on to the right side and secured with two roll pins. I have removed the two toll pins and am now struggling with getting the right side bracket off, Lever arm cross shaft, part no, A082F4179F in 1996-2004 parts list. I have tried a puller with long extensions to no avail. Is there anything extra that I have to remove, or is it just really stuck on, possibly rusted or maybe conical? Kind regards, jacques

Chris Weedon very kindly lent me the UN1 insertion tool that he owns and I’ve fitted the seals by using the corresponding collar but they seem like they are too far in the case compared to the old ones? there is a lip section of the tool once the collar is fitted about 2mm wide and I’m wondering if the lip of the seal should fit inside this section ? I’d didn’t look like they would as the diameter of the seal was m a fair bit smaller. I have the GTO seals and wondering if the tool is suited to the OE Renault seals ?

I had started playing with the idea months back and although it has taken a back seat due to funds for the 1.64" /41.7mm plate needed. I wanted to populate all my measurements here rather then keep them all jotted down on several pieces of paper. So here it is... - a mid-engine capable 5 speed - Trans mounted starter (Yes!) - 8 bolt flywheel evenly spaced -similar length as UN1 shifter linkages on rear aswell (hoping to use Lotus cables) -------------------- EJ255 FW bolt holes - .4115" Lotus FW bolt hole - .485" FW edge to edge/ bolt ->pilot .4695" FW edge to edge/ bolt -> bolt .585" pilot bearing…

I’ve decided to get Quaife LSD from GTO and they offer a full strip, clean and rebuild for £999 including fitting of the diff. The only problem is the 8 week lead time as I can’t get the gearbox to them for 3 weeks and the cars going over to Mike S before then so I wondered if anyone knows anyone else that might be able to strip and fit the LSD, preferably in the north of England or is it best to get GTO to do it. I’d rather someone specialised in UN1 boxes looks at it.
