Hi This looks like a great forum. I decided to join as I am really keen on purchasing a 1983 Turbo Esprit. I'm in South Africa, so the cars are really rare here. I had the option of getting a 944 for a bit less and parts would have been easier to find but I really feel that the Lotus stands out and has appeal due to it's individuality and well, there's just something really special about it. I'd appreciate any input or advice. Info I have from dealership is as follows. Make : Lotus Model : Turbo Esprit Year : 1983 Milage : 42 000km Comments : Manual 5 speed, airconditioning, Alarm class III, Radio/Cas…

just wanted to say hello. purchased bronze s3 couple of weeks ago. needs a bit of work , but on the road and being loved. Engine has been modified by rapier services to 200 bhp +, confirmed by a previous owner, but don't know exactly what they did. i,ve had an elite for a year, which was a good intro to lotus, but i am sure i'll have plenty of questions to ask.

Howdy Folks, 2nd post on here after joining last week. Here goes.... I took the red eye this am from Dublin to Heathrow to go see two cars I shortlisted (on budget & model type), just home now and no wiser !! Choice 1 S3 Turbo 1983 Except for a few marks on the paintwork where a previous owner had left a car cover on - the car is clean, wheels have just been reconditioned, new shocks, anti roll bar, turbo, new radiator, brake master cylinder, new S/S exhaust, leather is like new & upgraded stereo, and a manual fan override switch. Only negative about the condition of the car is that the aircon is not connected

Hi, thought I'd better introduce myself. I've had an S2 for a while, total wreck in need of a lot of work. I rescued it from under a tarpaulin in a load of trees. Window seals are all shot so the inside was soaked and ruined. Had the engine running and basic running gear seems ok, chassis is sound so hopefully not too many nasty surprises (other than a rapidly diminishing bank account!) Steve.

I finally have my very own Esprit. (Hopfully the first of many) I spent many nights pouring over the internet, and digging through Motor-Ads before I found my Esprit. The months I spent in anticipation only make the fact that I now own one even better! It was a long haul... in fact over 1900 miles (3050km), but this was the only car worth traveling that distance for. When I arrived to see the car I felt like a giddy little kid about to piss himself. However, I felt even more like a little kid when I drove the first block with the parking brake on. I was extremly nervous when driving the Esprit for the first time, so I'll just blame my forgetfulness on that. …

I will no doubt be on this forum quite a bit seeing as I have just bought David Mckennas (I'm sure lots of you know the car!?) GT3 so will take this oportunity to say 'Hello fellow Esprit owners!' By buying this car i have relised a childhood dream and she now takes pride of place on my drive as my new daily driver. I live near Banbury and work at Aston Martin in Gaydon as an Interior design engineer. I have plans for the esprits interior already!!! plus their are some other little things I have noticed about the esprit which could do with a little attention. 1st on my list is to sort/change all the rear view mirrors as they bounce around all over the place and …

I just wanted to say hello to everyone here on the Esprit forum. I do not own a Lotus, but my friend and I are care takers for one. My friend's dad purchased a 90 Esprit Turbo a couple of years ago and loved the car. He recently passed away, leaving the car to his wife, who let it sit for about a year. After my friend (her son) got his driver's license and some experience driving MR cars (auto-Xing MR2's) she agreed to let him start driving and caring for the car. We have now begun the long road to restoring this car. It has several issues which we will have to address, but I look forward to the car being restored to its original glory. The car's issues are the rea…

Hi all, I've found a great looking 1991 Esprit Turbo SE in Hollane, and I'd like to ask what to look for espiecally when checking on the car ... I went along for a test drive, it's driving great in my opninion, but what worries me a bit was a bit of oil on the bottom side of the engine (the car is on private sale but to see @ a Lotus dealer ; he told me lots of Esprit's have an oily engine). It's not dripping, it just feels a bit oily from the bottom ... (he put it on a bridge so I could see under the car) What else to olook for when inspecting the car ? To give you a glimpse already of the beauty : HERE Thanx for all your advise ! The b…

Last night my wife and I took the Lotus to dinner and then to listen to some live music at a local bar. I had three different people taking pictures of the car while I was driving. When we arrived at the bar, almost everyone inside came outside. I gave a ride to a complete stranger who was a true enthusiast. One woman asked how much we paid for it, I asked her how do you think, her reply, "Between $175,000-250,000!" It took about 45 minutes for the questions to stop. A couple of hours later when we left there was a group of people waiting outside, they said that they wanted to hear what the car sounded like when we drove off. They told me that they took turns takin…

Hello everyone, Just found this site and after doing a little bit of scanning over it I think I am going to be spending alot of time here. The Lotus Esprit has been a favorite exotic of mine since i first set eyes on it when I was quite young. It was a white 92 Esprit SE, i just fell in love with the lines. I am now 22 yrs old and still have the passion for all things automotive as I did when I was young kid. I have now joined this forum to spend some time learning about the Esprit's, in particular the S4 and S4s's and up. Depending on work and future finances I would love to have the opportunity to own either a S4s or a V8 in the not too distant future. I …

I am new here and new to a Lotus with a V8. I had an elise last year, and decided to go with the big brother. I will get some pictures when I get it out of the shop. I am having an aluminium radiator installed as in stock form it was having trouble with the Sacramento heat, 105-110 was making me nervous. Anyhow looking forward to being a part of this community.

Picked up the car this Sunday and drove her 300 miles home. The car is great it is a 2001 with just over 9,000 miles on it. First question I have is, the exhaust sounds like it is back firing when I let off the gas? Not sure if I am just hearing something else. I have a Ferrari so I used to a loud exhaust note. Matt

Well, after several months of research and searching, I am now the proud owner of a 2000 V8. It's the dark Purple, now with 22k. Was not sure about a purple car, but after seeing the car, its more black than anything. I found the car in San Antonio and just finished driving it back to Jacksonville FL. If I had not had to be in San Antonio for business, I would have shipped, but since I was already there... Approx 1,100 miles back. Previous owner was a car nut. He just had new Hyperflow cats, K&N, Tumi exaust, new Pilots, and the belts, oil and coolant changed. Car ran great. Only issues were a very tired calf muscle - Why no cruise; wiper blade that t…
