Hello, I just purchased a 1991 Elan turbo. I live in the states so it’s a us spec car left hand drive car. It does not run and does not have power to the fuel pump. It does start right up with starting fluid. I noticed that the fuel pump I retina switch is not present. Is there a way for me to jumper the connection to the inertia switch to get power to the pump to test it? If so, which wires need to be jumpered and or grounded? Forgive me if I write anything the wrong way. This is my very first Lotus! Thanks for any help here!

Here's a handy tip to provide easier access to the battery once you have the cover to the battery off. The problem being, the hood and hood cover want to shut so a two person job. Or: Use the battery cover to prop both. A tip from Steve Williams, Maidenhead, Lotus service guru. Justin

Does anyone know the paint code for either the elan se or s2 alloys. I tried to ask this question on the LEC forum but I can’t remember if I’m still a member, let alone my password. If anyone can help, thanks in advance.

When Bugatti took on the build for the Lotus Elan M100 SE, was the build spec better? Considering a 1 owner FHC car and only 48tho miles. Can you list the improvements? Thank you.

Hi all, first time posting here! My father recently passed away in a car accident. As a memory to him, myself and my siblings would love to find and purchase his first ever car, a Lotus Elan. I have nothing but the registration of the car so was hoping for some help -J959PPK. Any help / guidance would be massively appreciated!

At the top of the page you can see my latest new-old Lotus, mentioned recently – a superbly preserved second-generation, front-drive 1991 Elan SE in which I’m going to attack Paul Matty’s Lotus Hillclimb Championship next year. I know it’s not a ‘real Elan’ in the eyes of many Lotus fanciers, but I’m convinced history sells this car short. It’s a genuine Peter Stevens design, and its special fight-free front drive was developed by the legendary John Miles. And it can turn a 0-60mph sprint in 6.5sec, which is brisk even now. Lotus test drivers of the time reckoned they could lap the Hethel track faster in one of these than a Turbo Esprit. For £10,000, with that c…

I came across a cheap Elan M100 today. Some research tells me it's in fact a Kia and not a Lotus, as it was build in 1998. Obviously I would have preferred a Lotus, but it could still be interesting. Main problem is the gearbox is missing. I understand Kia used their own 1.8 instead of the Isuzu 1.6. I take it the gearbox will be different as well, and probably hard or impossible to find. Does anyone have any experience with the Kia Elan? Are there a lot differences or are most parts interchangeable? And are they worth something or frowned upon as not an actual Lotus? The car looks OK, so would be a shame to strip. But without a gearbox, keeping other Elans on the …

Well this was unexpected; after many years wrenching on other cars, mostly my Esprit SE, I've gotta say my Elan SE has me more or less spiritually broken. It's my first (and probably last) time working on a transversely mounted engine setup. Spent the better part of 7 hours yesterday just trying to get at the timing belt, eventually giving up when my brother and I realised that, no, you can't remove the timing belt upper cover with the PAS pipe in situ - it has to go (I know people wrestle the cover out of the way, but on my car, either the cover breaks, or the pipe does - and we already snapped the lower cover removing it in anger). Most of those hours went into (su…

Can anyone help with a missing wing mirror motor revolving spigot -- if that's the right word. ! (see pix) First does anyone have one they are prepared to part with ? Alternatively does anyone know if the motor on the M100 was ever used on a standard make of car ? Many thanks

Hi all, I have produced a 3D model of this part as my father owns an M100 Elan here in Australia and required replacements. I know that the part is still quite easily available in the UK (and perhaps the EU) but that's certainly not the case in Australia where it's virtually unobtainable. Also, the part's original design means that it's often broken through the process of removal. The version I have created includes a slot, which makes removal without damage less of a challenge. Anyway, here's the link to the part so that anyone can download it for free and produce replacements with even the most basic 3D printer. I hope that this proves to be of…

I've recently acquired the actual car that Mike Kimberley revealed to the world at the launch of the M100. It is Prototype 14 with a huge history file, including internal memos circulated amongst the design team in the run up to the show. It was unused for 5 years prior to me acquiring it so has required a bit of a makeover in order to MOT it, which I have now done. It's still got a lot of pre production parts on it and also a few early-car features like the double flip headlamps that were deleted after about six months of production. I would be interested to know if anyone has any information or images relating to the Earls Court show that year.

Hi I have a 92 Elan SE Turbo that has been standing for 10 years. I have replaced the fuel pump that was u/s and is now working ok. I am getting a spark at the plugs but the engine is not firing. I put some petrol down the ports and it did start (although for a short time and stuttering) It feels like fuel isn't getting to the ports - but any ideas? And is there an easy way of testing that fuel is getting to the injectors? I assume that I wouldn't have four injectors not working and the car turns over fine but there is just no sign of life Any ideas would be greatly appreciated Cheers MaccaMcB
