Hello, I am currently disassembling the front suspension with the intention of getting it all cleaned up, while I save my pennies for work on the engine. (Yes i have realised that to replace the bushes etc. will be expensive also) Anyway loking at the front calipers it seems that it is probably cheaper to get reconditioned ones than to do the job myself. I have found a company called brake parts superstore, http://www.brakepartssuperstore.org.uk/contents/en-uk/d7858.html. This link refers to the front caliper to a Lotus Excel, looks very similiar to the calipers on my car. The service manual doesn't seem to give a model number or anything. Does anybody know if these are i…

Hi guys, I'm looking for rear brake pads for my 86 Turbo. Old pads were removed to unlock wheels and were thrown away 😬 The lotus number is A082J6076F .... OK. 200€ for a pad set 🙄 NO ! I found there : A Renault Lecar is an American oddity of the Renault R5. It's not something common in France. After some time researching online, it seems this model has the same brakes as the R15, R17 and R5 Alpine (and Turbo). So I found this Renault OE number : 6025170586 .... And now, it's easy to find pads for ....15€ and with the little "nib" on the back : https://www.auto-doc.fr/ridex/8040481 for exemple with a 360° view Cross references of…

Hi there, wondering if anyone could help me out? does anyone happen to know/is able to measure for me, the length of a G esprit with no bumpers on? I`d measure mine but I`m on the other side of the planet for the time being.. I`m planning a garage build for when I get back to the UK, and I`m trying to figure out whether I can squeeze the esprit in sideways when its stored for longer periods. I know it wont fit with the bumpers on, I have an s3 and checked the specs online. s2 is close, so it might work with the bumpers off. thanks very much! Mark

Can anyone out there point me in the right direction to find a missing engine lid fastener from an early dry sump car? Ive tried the usual suspects like Lotus Bits and SJ without success. Short of having a replica made I’m not sure if I’ll find one but if anyone knows what they’re from I’d be grateful Thanks as always

I know most Esprits don't have them, but my '83 Turbo has a bonnet strut that was rather weak. Today I replaced my strut, but there's not a direct replacement, luckily it's not that hard to do what I did. I measured up the existing strut open/closed and figured out that the 110N is a 25lb strut. I placed an order from McMaster-Carr (I think they may be US only though). What I bought was item 9416K136 which is a strut with threaded ends (M8x1.25) 18.18" open and 7.87" stroke. I removed the ends from the stock strut. Here's the photo of the two side-by-side (new on the left, OEM on the right): The threaded ends are different, so I drilled and tapped the plas…

Filled up my plastic windshield washer tank only to find it leaking fluid. Removed, examined, and found a pinhole leak on either side of the plastic form where it slides into the bracket. Is there a tried and true method of repairing this? Superglue? Epoxy, perhaps?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a replacement headlight relay? Had the drivers side stop popping up, swapped the relays over and the fault moved to the passenger side. Opened up the relay and gave it a bit of a clean and seems to be working for now, but I still want to replace it to be on the safe side. Lotus part number A079M6141F I think, but surely a fairly generic part?

So I have no idea of the real limits my car (1985 Turbo Esprit) will tolerate (more than me, I suspect 😉 ) I'd like to do my first trackday, but everone wants some form of towing hook/eye/ etc. as a pre-requisite which the car never had. How do I resolve this? I've seen a couple of threads for different cars - but it's not clear if the solutions would work for my car. I'm also going to post this on the Trackday forum for max exposure ..... Thanks in advance ...

Now we all have this list as a reference. I had saved it but lost the computer to a virus/spyware/malware. Well, now it is recovered! I believe a few of us have found a total of no more than a handful of mistakes in this entire list, either by comparing to original factory documentation or to the actual data plate on a car; but overall it seems to be highly accurate and with very few errors. How I wish it were searchable as a database, rather than just an image . . . If we all did half a page, the data entry would be quick and painless . . . Enjoy . . . Edit: Could a moderator help me clean this up and post in order? …

Hi. Having just picked up my S2 after its long resto, I only recently realised it is missing the jack and tools plus no owners handbook. If anyone knows of any availability of any of above be great to get. Oh and the OEM hitachi digital one stereo as well, been looking a looong time for one of those. Thanks

I am going to do a complete body off restoration on a 1979 John Player Special. As the restoration goes along, I will need bits of information. My first request is.....does anyone know the weight of the body? The windshield will stay in and all the interior will be removed. Thank you.

All - as per previous mails - I've taken it upon myself to try to collate a list of Essex cars. This all started with the keen interest in both Lotus F1 / Giugiaro ownership and the fact my mate owns No.17!! Also as it seems no-one has ever tried to track these cars down................ Here goes. This list provenance comes from a letter from the Factory from J Stuart Allison - the factory records controller dated September 1992. I've tried to gain as much info as possible to confirm and track todays whereabouts speaking to owners etc. and using as much info/articles/books and having kept an eye out for these cars over the last 16 or so years as long as Paul (No.1…

Hi Guys, well, since i just bought an s3 Esprit, i thought i`d do the duty of copying my elite/eclat interchange spreadsheet (which seems pretty popular on the eclat area), over to giugiaro esprit. its free to edit for all, should be relatively self explanatory, if you want to take a look at the eclat one its over in the elite eclat chat area as a sticky. (probably be good to get this stickied too) ive kept the parts list from the eclat one, but some will not be relevent, and i`ll be missing lots, feel free to add sections/ whatever you feel is missing. i`ll update as i find out stuff, there will be some cross over from the eclat too i`d imagine. …

Drove down a harsh country road and it managed to break this bar, it was corroded at the end. Not sure how what to call it to see if SJ sell them. It runs from chassis to the fibreglass under trays.

I´m thinking about doing a LHD conversion on my S2 and i stumbled across an early 80s LHD Turbo chassis. Now I´m wondering if it´s possible to swap out the chassis. It would save the time welding and is already galvanized.

I found an esprit S2 with VIN SCC079907CHH10404. I attach two pictures The doubts I have are: a) how is it possible that there are a 1982 Esprit S2? Didn't they start selling the Esprit S3 since 1981? b) is the chassis galvanized? c) the exterior of the machine seems to me to be an S3. How is it possible? Has a previous owner changed the exterior ? d) I can't understand if the interior are the same of a Esprit S2 or the same of a Esprit S3 e) I have called 3 official Lotus Italian dealers, but nobody knows how to tell me the original engine number. I no longer know can help me about original engine number Thank you a lot Paolo

I've seen some parts referenced with "prior to 85 MY". How do I tell if my "new" 1985 Lotus Esprit S3 is "prior" or "1985 MY onwards"? Thanks, John
