Well It's Kind Of A Lotus :-)

Hi all,

I know this is not strictly a Lotus but a Westfield replica of a Lotus Eleven but I have just bought this in my quest to put together a collection of Lotus's from every decade since formation so hopefully posting it on here is OK, the originals go for around £130K now so this will have to do for my 50's example.

It is brand new but the fly in the ointment is that it is nearly finished being built by the current owner but it has yet to get through its SVA test to make it road legal, this shouldn't be too painful but I guess you never know the outcome till you get stuck in and to be fair the last Westfield I owned was a disaster as I bought a cut and shut without knowing and that was a death trap in which I had to replace the chassis + other bits a bobs.

But I just can't resist a pretty car and I have to say that I find it totally stunning, one of the prettiest cars I have ever seen, I'd be quite happy to put it in the living room as an ornament but I think my wife may have something to say on that 1f642.png

So let's see how things pan out when I put it in for an SVA, in fact Westfield have said they will help with this so fingers crossed, watch this space.

More pictures to follow once I get it home.

Yes they are ace. Maybe not quite a genuine Lotus but the simplicity of parts means its almost a Lotus...only really lacking age.

What engine you got in there? I think they made them with the climax, A-series or a Ford engine? The Climax is a screamer but the A series is a nice little roarer.

lovely . was that at paul matty

It was the one at Paul Matty that got me looking around and I stumbled on this on on Car and Classic, almost seems to be good to be true as the guys hobby is building kit cars and he has got it to the point where it needs putting through the SVA and he doesn't want to ruin the look by adding the bits needed to get it through the SVA so he just charged me for the parts and no labour so fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be a lemon :(

I'm pretty sure it is a A-Series, to be honest I was so taken by how stunning it looked I didn't really get too involved in the mechanicals, but this guy has been building kit cars to a very high standard for years so I'm sure it will be fine.

The next job is to get it to Westfield, they are going to charge me around £2500 to get it through the SVA which seems very fair.

Yes I must admit as the engine isn't running yet, just a matter of swapping the oil over,  I can't wait to hear how it sounds.

Classic racing look slike so much,  can nott see it been any less expensive to put the old cars on track and race ,  but visually they look wonderful compaired to the modern stuff,  So need to watch the lemans 24hr classic one of these years :)

No progress at all yet Trevor unfortunately, been too caught up in my Radical exploits, hope to get it up to Westfield in a couple of months time to put it through the SVA, I'll update this once it is passed.

Yesterday I finally got time to look under the Eleven's bonnet for the first time, happy to see it actually has an engine 👍 I understand it was rebuilt before being put in, unfortunately it looks like it will be later in the year before I finally get her on the road, to be honest though I reckon I'll get just as much enjoyment looking at her :)

I may still build one of these as can’t find one in the exact spec I like and it might stop me looking at the next purchase every five minutes. Always happy to lend a hand.

Trevor.

I know the feeling Trevor, looking at a Tornado GT40 at the moment, really should get this one finished first, thanks for the offer of help 👍
