  1. Past hour
  2. I was just going by this report... https://www.topgear.com/car-news/suvs/youll-still-be-seeing-volvo-estates-and-saloons-police-cars-uk
  3. When I was growing up during the height of the Cold War, I remember the owners of a posh house near Leicester racecourse having a large prefabricated fall-out shelter craned into a hole deep underneath their garden. It even made the local newspaper. Can you imagine the masses descending on that property if it was all going nuclear? I guess the house and its shelter are still there, so it would be quite a desirable property nowadays.
  4. I did it on my Excel and Esprit Turbo SE. Easy enough, but obviously the icons are upside down now. In my case, it was the other way around, to the RHS in a RHD car. I found this more logical to operate and was used to it from my RHD Triumph. I understand it was standard practice to have the indicator on the outside in cars up to the late 70s, so different RHD and LHD. Afterwards the indicators are always on the left, as in a LHD?
  5. Obviously this may have nothing to do with your gearbox issue. When our 2015 S (IPS) changed down on its own and stayed in gear recall it being 3rd, Lotus dealer told us to disconnect battery earth cables for one minute, reconnect and let them know if all was ok; which it was
  6. I have purchased this car from a Lotus specialist who is helping me free of charge to fix problems. Annoying thing is that one issue after another. I understand that this is an old car and things are expected to go wrong. This is why i am checking what else I might replace now to avoid returning to the garage for the 4th time or in near future. We have changed all 4 ABS sensors because one of them was intermittent , and I asked to change all not only the suspect. I am not sure if EMS was reset. Will ask.

  8. Yes this might sound like a strange question to ask, those of you who have purchased an Emira (and yes I really do feel you made a good choice) was your receipt from Lotus cars or Lotus Technology? thanks
  9. I'd say follow the diagnostic path that the codes are giving you. You can replace some of the sensors / valves / tower unit by taking the sump off the gearbox, rather than having to remove and disassemble the box. If the TCU isn't getting an input speed, then it will go limp mode. Not sure why you replaced the ABS sensors for misfire codes, the EMS doesn't know much about the ABS ECU. Is it being looked at a Lotus specialist? Has the EMS been reset? Dave
  10. Was there any response about this, getting very close to missing Q1? And are there release notes or any other information as to what is included - especially regarding Android Auto / Apple Car play?
  11. Gavin, did you apply sealant on the cabin side or outside of the bulkhead? It looks like with the lower undertray off you can get to the seal.
  12. I did it on my S3, you'll need to drill a hole in order to move the roll pin that cancels the indicator.
  13. Did you buy it from a dealer, or privately? If the former, they should be fixing these issues free of charge for the first 6 months (Consumer Rights Act 2015). Assuming you're fixing the car because you bought privately, I'd get the car to a Lotus specialist. It honestly doesn't sound too bad to me; just a speed sensor on the way out on the gearbox, or something.
  14. When I was looking for a fun car next to the Range Rover and had the budget for something special, Lotus was high on my list. I had looked at an Esprit while a student, but just couldn't make the finances work. But the fire after that first encounter remained burning. I can relate to much of the above: special, different, rare and with loads of heritage. It helped that I was already drawn to British motors. It also helps that there is a great community of Lotus owners. Just And an Esprit is just gorgeous! They look like they're doing a 100mph just standing still. And prove to be an absolute joy to drive once you get behind the wheel. I was hooked while still in the passenger seat, a bond that was cemented on the 300mile drive home after buying my first Esprit. When that was lost, I briefly looked at other brands, but quickly decided I wanted another Esprit, and specifically another Turbo SE as that just seems to be the sweet spot for me. My Excel was bought when the opportunity presented itself as a swap for a Triumph Stag (I loved my first Stag but never bonded with the second one, so she had to go). I was looking more at an Elite or even a Scimitar GT, then an Excel came along and has proved to be a great choice, very reliable and good fun, especially on road trips. As above, once you have experienced the joy of a Lotus, it's hard to find alternatives. When I was offered an Elan +2 JPS, it was a deal I just could not resist. And so the family grew again. They seem happy together, and so am I. 🙂 Filip
  15. £45k car was mine previously, traded in recently, no problems at all, feel free to message with any specific questions.
  16. I don't know why the climate change protesters are so worried at the moment? If Putin keeps up his crap and things go nuclear, a bunch of different places would be stuffed within an hour, the whole planet could be stuffed in 12 months so it just won't matter with starvation getting everyone else after about 2 years, from the info that I can find. Even if you have a fallout shelter, unless you are set up to last at least who knows how long underground. That info I can't find. The idea of the atmosphere catching alight was posited in Oppenheimer. They were only talking about 1 nuclear bomb. If it all goes pear shaped, we are talking about thousands of bombs with most of those being larger than the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. I wonder what would happen then? How much air can be superheated without an atmospheric fire becoming a possibility? I need a different hobby. This one is just sad.
  17. Again, jumper the fuel pump relay to get it out of the equation. If she starts, rejoice! Replace the relay (they can go bad) and only then start looking for the bad connection. I'm a big fan of the path of least resistance and expense when problem solving. 😉 A missing or poor earth is a good call though, we've all been there. For me, it was the ones on top of the bellhousing. 😳 For field diagnostics, the ALDL needs to be bridged during the entire test. You should also hear the fans come on.
  18. Too bad... For me, the first weekend of June would work as well. (not clear to me if work is a problem in May or also in the holidays)

  20. Hey Jacques, I did not renew the braids, but I refitted them. I replaced the fuel pump, but that does not seem to be the problem, as there is fuel at the rail. Battery is not a year old und is on a battery conditioner right now. i think, the flickering fuel pump relay is a clear sign for a contact problem. So I opened all connections and used Contact Spray on it. It’s drying right now, before I reconnect everything. I’ll give it a try tonight or tomorrow. As I said, the CEL was not blinking 12 when in diagnostic mode, but only a short pulse and then steady light. Possibly I did the diagnostic wrong because of a misunderstanding. I bridged the diagnostic line only for one second but reading the procedure again and again, it might be, that the bridging needs to be permanently for the time of diagnosis. I am going to try that out as well! Stay tuned 😉 Patrick
  21. And designed by the person who designed the Alfa 156 facelift
  22. Once you get the taste for Lotus they are hard to resist. Very addictive 😍 My old Elan not only drove differently but had a distinctive smell, inside and out.
  23. I'm used to checking on rust protection having owned Alfas since 2006. I've been lucky with my current bundles.
  24. Can I switch the turn signal stalk on an LHD Esprit S1 to the left side of the steering wheel and the wiper stalk to the right side? What happened here? Seen a few Esprit S1’s where they have switched sides. Can it be reversed?
