  1. So after the November lockdown I took a call from Fabrizio Giugiaro the son of Giorgetto and he visited my place to look at the Esprits I had on offer. The car him and his dad was going to buy was heading for there museum in Turin Italy. He chose my fully restored white S1 Great choice !

  3. Facing the end of Evora production, I've decided that whilst the Emira will be lovely, the interior electronics is absolutely not my thing. So I've "invested" in trading in my Aquamarine (will miss that colour, not going to lie) NA for one of the last brand-new GT410s. Currently being prepped, PPF-ed and ceramic-coated by Topaz Detailing, will pick up Monday. I love the easier access and the softer suspension, which is really not far off the NAs other-worldly ride. I always thought they'd have to bury me in the blue Evora, but it will be a green one instead! Definitely not the end of the Evora for me.

  5. TLF were recently in Hethel to sit down and catch up with Lotus MD Matt Windle. Matt and Lotus Cars have been incredibly busy of late as evidenced by the recent upturn in new content from the company and with the all new Lotus Emira launch just a few days away on the 6th July and being the headliners at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, there’s a lot going on! How do you keep up with this work, what is up and coming from Lotus, what about parts for older cars?   6. Now all finished and fully commissioned ready for John to collect tomorrow. FROM THIS TO THIS THEN THIS Well it was quite an involved repair, it took a bit longer to do with other area's being addressed at the same time . A short test drive and MOT , then off to Northampton Motor Sport to be set up with full GEO and corner balancing .. Then full test drive to confirm everything works as it should something to reflect on ... The new composite roof D

  7. The Hunts is over. Healthcheck complete and only the usual advisories came up to was happy to proceed. (Slight front ARB play and boot struts weak) Just need to sort out picking it up or getting it collected. Still haven’t seen it in the flesh but current and previous owners seem excellent. 🧐 Previous owner was on here before and gave me some great history and ownership details so a big thanks to him. looking forward to wrapping it up in the garage and polishing it on weekends till the summer (don’t judge me 😂)

  8. Hey everyone, Thought I'd share some images having been playing around in Photoshop with the paint samples, big thanks to Tom and everyone else for posting millions of pictures. Let me know if you think any are way out, although I've matched the colours from the paint samples the 'brightness' of each paint is really just interpretation. Please don't read too much into these, just me having a play about. I've included blue for reference (the paint is unedited), the wheels are blacked out though.

  9. Since the Emira launch and me going from “I want one, where do I sign?” to “you know what, I think I’ll just wait a bit”, I’ve deliberately been driving my GT410 at every opportunity. Oh boy am I glad I have as, not having used it much over the last 18 months, I’d kinda forgotten just what great cars they are. The Evora really does do everything I want from a GT/Sports car and, importantly, puts a smile on my face whenever I slide behind the wheel. I actually rather like the interior which, compared to Emira, is quite plain and sparse. I like the fact there is very little in the interior that doesn’t need to be there and, consequently, very little to distract your attention. I almost feel as though the last month or so has been a bit of an epiphany for me. No more will I need to be shackled to the idea of upgrading to the latest offering from Lotus, as I have in the past. So, taking everything into consideration, much as I still love the look of Emira, my GT410 Sport is now going to be a keeper. Besides, I’m fed up with selling cars that several years later suddenly become collectible and worth way more than I sold them for!🙄 So now I’ve said that, just you watch Evora prices plummet, never to return to previous levels!😂

  10. Towards the end of last year, I mentioned that my brother’s Maserati Ghibli SS had completed its latest renovation. Anyway, he finally drove it home from the workshop today and here are some photos. It was originally supplied via Bristol Street Motors, Birmingham and I think is 1 of 8 RHD manual SS coupes. It was ordered in this colour with power steering, Powrlok limited slip differential and air-conditioning. The engine is a dry sump all alloy quad cam 4.9 litre V8 developing 335 bhp. The interior is original and hasn’t been restored. I think he paid <£30k when he bought it about 20 years ago. It’s now worth rather more.

  12. Inspired by GrandThriftAuto’s latest video, I thought that I would try and take some aerial photos of my Elite. Despite the slight problem of not having a drone, I was quite pleased with this effort which was taken using my phone whilst hanging out of a bedroom window 😀

  13. ***** In 1993 when I was 50 years old I bought my 1st sports car, a 1990 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE with 15.000 mls on the odo...... I immediately did fell in love with this Lotus and the love remained all those 28 years..... Today, (I hope to become 78 years old in June), I bought and picked up the last new available Evora in the Netherlands and left my Esprit in good hands with the Lotus importer. It was rather difficult to say goodbye and I felt a little sad to leave her. Keeping was no option as I have in my garage room for only one car (and a 1975 Honda Goldwing GL1000 K1 motorbike) while I own 2 more cars (daily drivers)......... When saying goodbye and handing her over I kissed her farewell on the roof and thanked her for all the nice years together. My new Lotus is a Evora GT 410 Sport with IPS .................

  14. Part 16 Home stretch .. Well all good things come to an end and it was time to draw a line under this one , The chassis was shot blasted and re- galvanized to give it fresh new look along with decades of future rust protection. Before After Needless to say , other than dimensional check and reaming out the mount points, plus tapping a few threads , that was as far as I went with the chassis on this restoration ... At this point is was passed back to @RichardJGC for him to do the assembly work .. On return, I dropped in the engine and Box which I had rebuilt while customer was fitting up the chassis .. The more observant among you will notice the few belt/tensioner upgrades along with the verniers... I thought these were good additions that the customer requested to refine the older unit.. Finally the parts I had to do were all pieced together and the Esprit shipped back to the customer @RichardJGC for him to complete the project... This was a hard long job, but a pleasure to do, ( with the exception of scaping the bottom ) . Its only when I look back in the pictures and at this thread do I appreciate how fortunate i am to be allowed to do this sort of work for customers .. It really is an honor to be allowed to work on a customers pride and joy and be trusted to do the work required .. Thank you. To close this thread here are a few of the pics showing the point it was passed back to @RichardJGC who will now finish the project..

  15. Answers as promised (sorry for the delay, been moving a muck-heap, spreading and harrowing - payback for last night's excitement): What driving aids/ limiters etc are actually on the car? (I'm hoping minimal) - Contrary to Bibs' post elsewhere, I was categorically told last night that the FE would have adaptive cruise control. Go figure. If they get the homologation done before July the 8th (when the legislation is scheduled to come in to effect, there would be no speed limiter for the V6 FE. They were unsure if this would impact i4 cars (as they would be homologated at a later date in theory), but are looking in to it for me. They did suggest that the date for the legislation might slip, as in their experience they regularly do. When are i4 FE's scheduled to be delivered and what is the time-scale for configs, additional deposits etc? i4 FE Configurator is (at present) scheduled to go live some time in November but, as we already know, they are focussing on V6 Fe's first. 2nd deposits etc will follow the same pattern as those going for the V6. Autumn deliveries. What are the proposed servicing intervals? I got varying answers on this, but 12K miles or annual seemed to be the consensus (although there was some talk of the V6 following the Evora with 9K/ annual. Fixed price servicing. When will factory tours be available again/ available to deposit holders? Spring if all goes according to be plan. There was talk of looking at factory deliveries... Any indication on tyre costs/ tyre wear expectancy? Nothing yet, all mules are running a mix of tires and mostly running on the track so the data would be pretty meaningless right now. In November when the roadgoing "shakedown" cars become available they should start getting this data. When will deposit holders get a test drive? Dealers should be getting their demonstrators late Feb/March (more likely March) The ride for Sport was described to me as very similar to Evora Sport 410 but, as stated elsewhere, it was emphasised that Touring was probably going to be the sweet spot for all but the most committed track gods. They are looking at Service plans. I didn't see the question on the wheel/arches. Sorry. The event last night didn't go to plan (no reveal etc), BUT... the LOTUS staff were on hand and helpful, and obviously - and rightly so - proud of their baby. If someone I was talking to didn't have the answer, they went and grabbed the right person. Chris and the team at Hendy Poole were on hand, and did a great job. The car is stunning. With a bit more time made available to you to look and get as much of a feel for the car as you can without driving it, there is no doubt in my mind that this is a winner of a car. Yes, it's heavier etc. Still felt and looked like a Lotus should. Driver centric, just more useable. I am absolutely delighted.

  16. ***** Straight from my heart......!! I lived 28 years (from 50-78 years of age) with my 1990 LHD Esprit Turbo SE.......it was a memorable love story. In April 2021 I traded her in for the last available new "2021" GT 410 Sport IPS in the Netherlands.......there are a total of 3 GT 410 Sport's now in the Netherlands and approx. 20 other new Evora types sold by the Dutch Lotus importer v.d. Kooi between 2010 and 2021. The GT 410 Sport cost you a rib off your body with the resp. official MSRP's of GBP 155k in 2018 and GBP 137k in 2019. I felt lucky to step in with a that time GBP 7,65k reduced price of GBP 118,5k......for my Esprit I received GBP 32k. ......a total investment of < GBP100k My Esprit was sold by v.d. Kooi within 1 week for GBP 38.250,- to a Ferrari + TVR owner. 🙄 It was difficult to trade in my perfect Esprit; especially because of my age and long time of ownership and love relation........however buying my (probably) last Lotus was a real challenge and I did it. I am very, very happy with the GT 410.....it is extremely exclusive in the Netherlands....it was my 1st "automatic" car with my between 1-1,5 million miles car history.....I feared the IPS, however I had to take it because it was part of the deal......now I am very, very happy with this IPS and his peddels.....I can drive the Evora both as a "man of age" and as a "youngster". I was aware of the coming Emira but felt better with the Evora GT 410 Sport which was the last and most improved version....it felt bombproof......furthermore I did not want to wait 1-2 years and to be confronted eventually with possible initial and small quality problems (sorry). And a Porsche would never be the car I would desire.

  17. Lot of relevant comments on this thread for me. I should introduce myself. Had two Elise's between '97-'05 but been yearning for an Evora since launch. In May I was hearing that production was due to stop, so went to spec my perfect new car only to hear "too late". I went for the next best thing, the unused GT410 demonstrator. There was excitement building around the soon to be revealed Emira but I'm a late adopter and preferred to go with the tried and tested. I've been tapped into all Evora reviews for over a decade so felt I knew what I was getting. Besides the Emira had been announced as 2 seats only, so 2+2 Evora still an essential element for family duties. The Emira reveal and subsequent comment that "Evora prices will tumble" had me wondering if I had done the right thing... Yes I think I have. It's everything I hoped it would be dynamically and IMHO looks sublime. It sits in an odd segment space between sports car, GT, and supercar and looks like nothing else. Even petrol head friends ask what is it? The Emira will be a far more common sight and for me is a little too far towards junior supercar. Lotus deserve to be successful with it, but I'm loving having its rare and slightly quirky older brother.

  18. Today the Club Lotus (Bucks, Berks, and Oxon area) held its annual concourse competition at a big (100+ cars) classic car show. I took the Essex all polished up but didn't win anything (despite being in a class of just two cars..) but 10 minutes later the car show organisers announced the Classic Car of the Show and now I'm chuffed to bits.

So rather dirty (just how I like 'em) Evora is sitting in the car park of a park whilst I'm sat on a bench in the sun nearby on yet another bloody conference call with work (yeah, the mum's in the park probably had me marked down as some sort of an evil paedo - ho hum!). Boy of about 6 see's my car, runs over to it dragging his 6ft 17 stone plus Dad with him - only mention it as it was funny to see, maybe you had to be there..... Anyway he is all over the car, running around it shouting wowwww and phwoarrr but keeping a safe distance from it. Then he goes over to the front wheel arch and gives it a gentle stroke over the top of the body where it curves up for the wheel. Right, that was it. WTF I thought! So I put myself on mute (on the phone, not me personally), jumped up and shouted "Oi" - quick as a flash the little brat swings around - "fancy a sit in it mate" I shouts! His little eyes nearly popped out of his head and his smile cracked his face to pieces. Blip blip and the door is opened and in he clambers! Dad looking at me a bit sheepishly says "sorry he is mad about cars". No problem I says, take as long as he wants. Take some pictures of him driving it. No problem pal. Next minute he's popping the buttons and the petrol flap springs up and he's reaching up, lifting up the carbon whale tail (yes, they really are that light and with no gas struts) and all I can hear is "corrrrrrrr, dad, look at the engine". Well 20 minutes later and I'm still on the conference call. Little lad has finished his forensic inspection of the car (including crawling underneath it!) and he comes running right up. Massive beam on his face. Eyes still on stalks. "Thanks Mister, what a car. Lovely car that. it's a Lotus isn't it" I smile back, nod and off he skips both him and his dad beaming away and a big thumbs up from the dad too. Sort of brings you back down to earth as to just how lucky we are to be able to caretake a Lotus and just how much love there is still out there for nice motors. Well lad and dad had their day made. But I also have to admit it made my bloody day as well seeing such a young lad so happy.

After having the n/a Sports racer for two years I thought about toying with the idea of moving to a 400, I wanted a manual, quite a few colours that I didn’t want 🙄, and after viewing a car with red leather I decided it wasn’t for me. I realised that I could well be in for a long wait but better than something I wouldn’t be totally happy with. As luck would have it a lovely Blue 400 with just 6k miles came up at Hofmanns, an unaccompanied test drive (due to COVID) confirmed it was for me 😎, the sound of that exhaust is incredible 🤪🤪 Brought it back to the Lake District last week, just cruising on the Motorway back home I’m ashamed to say the average mpg display showed 34.9 mpg 🤫, not sure how accurate that is but I’d be pretty certain that’ll never be repeated again !!! Loving it of course, oh did I mention the exhaust sound 😃

  21. Just thought I’d pop in with a quick update now my evora has finally been delivered! It was the GT410sport in military grey previously mentioned on here. I sold my exige cup to buy it as I wanted something I could hopefully get my 6 and 9 year old in the back of and hope to use it more. anyways, they fit in it a treat and love it. What a car!   22. Hi Everyone Well, been thinking for a couple of months now about selling my lovely Esprit SE and Elan M100 SE and getting an Evora. After trawling through Evora ads for a couple of months i saw an Evora which made me say, in the immortal words of Will Smith, "i gotta get me one of these!". So after putting my cars out there to a couple of Specialist Lotus traders i agreed a price and sold my Esprit and Elan and to my joy that same Evora was still for sale. I put a call into the dealer, studied the pics carefully, got a video walk around from the dealer and decided that its the one for me and put a deposit down! It is what i hoped to get at the top of my budget, an (MY12) Evora S IPS with all the dogs dangelly extras in black with red pinstripe styling (as per the special edition WHO Evora that was auctioned off for the teenage cancer trust). An IPS suits me because i do a lot of driving and have discovered that in my middle age years changing gear is such a tough task 🙂 and if i want to wind the clock back to my boy racer years i can put her in sport mode and play with me flappy paddles 😀 I should hopefully pick it up on Saturday which will make my day so to speak! Little did I think that by introducing Ollie to Colin Chapman for a job interview in October 1970 that our paths, families, careers and lives would be so intertwined and so full of challenge, achievement, fun and heartache. Always a totally dedicated and committed 'larger than life' Lotus character, he never stopped championing Colin Chapman and his 'efficiency in all things' DNA, together with promoting Lotus cars and its innovative engineering achievements. RIP my very good and true friend of 50 years from our first working together on a small Jaguar project after finishing our apprenticeships. Mike

  24. I liked the "Phil's spec" Evora so much, I've just bought one. Wanted something as soft as the NA but with the performance/interior of the S2s and the GT410 delivers that in spades. Seems much quieter (NVH-wise) too. Will be picking up on Monday (currently being prepped /PPF-ed at Topaz Detailing).

  30. Guilty- weirdly I went to B&C to order an exige 430 cup but thought while I was there I would try an Evora as had never driven one - so jamie lent me a 410 for an an hour and loved it!- changed my mind and a deal was done on the epic looking GT430!

  33. Well good news, it was found last night! In Medina, which is about 10 miles from where I live. Stuck at a roundabout just off I-90. Just talked to the tow company who impounded it and they said it's undrivable. Clutch pedal won't depress and the e-brake is shot. My guess is that whoever stole it didn't know how to disengage the e-brake and as such didn't get very far. So maybe that's a little unintentional security measure for Esprits?!! Now waiting for my insurance to get back to me (probably tomorrow as I'm writing this on Sunday) to figure out next steps. Fortunately I have full coverage so repair costs should be covered minus the deductible. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the well wishes!

  38. I had a new Evora Sport 410 on a 50/50 deal. It took some extreme man maths to make the case and I justified it as ‘you only live once‘! I had a great time in the car and loved every minute but had to sell it when the other 50% needed repaying. Given the whole COVID thing I am having another ‘you only live once’ bout of man maths and after considering getting a Porsche Boxster GTS or an Exige 350 I have gone for another Evora Sport 410. In fact it’s the same Evora as I owned before. So, 4 owners but my twice. Should be getting delivery on Friday from Lotus Silverstone. Can’t wait to get it back even though I won’t be able to enjoy it until the restrictions relax. It will be a track car and GT car and (as far as I am concerned) there isn’t a better car on the market. Who cares about posh switchgear and modern infotainment; It’s the drive that counts. Hope you all get chance to give your cars some exercise soon.

  41. Well, I ended up buying the Blue one, the general condition is very good, with a good service history, its recently (2019) had over 3k spent on various things, including a new AC compressor. I had a checklist I took with me. The only thing that isn't working is the passenger window drop and rise, as you open and close the door. The window mechanism works fine though. The gear change is lovely, rifle bolt like, no problems going in to 2nd! Considering the miles, and being white the interior is in great condition. A nice bonus is, that it does have the Janspeed Lotus sports exhaust, that sounds fantastic, and even managed to return 35mpg on the motorway.The one thing that has amazed me, is how well the car rides, bettwe than my other halfs Astra, not one rattle from the dashboard, or from the suspension, infact, the i8 had more rattles from the dash! Looking forward to many more miles, and will just have to sort out the window.. Here are some pics, clean when I left, and dirty when I got home..

  43. The circle of life. Fabrizio Giugiaro has bought the white S1 at Stocks, but when he came to check it over he didn't like the way the carbs were performing, so I went in to sort them out. So, I work on a lovely example of my childhood dream car and it ends up in the museum in Turin. It's nothing really, I know, but I'm pretty made up about it actually. 😁

I wasn’t allowed to say anything until today, but it's now okay for me to share that I have volunteered for the Covid-19 vaccine trials that a local Hospital are running in partnership with Pfizer. It's important that we all do our part to beat this virus. The vaccine is the one that has been developed in Russia.   45. Sorry, I've just come across this thread... Better late than never! I was one of the engineers at Lotus who worked on C875 CCL back in 1987. I designed a twin-display electronic dashboard system to replace the standard binnacle; the prototype was installed into C875 CCL and worked reasonably well. The whole process was documented on a video produced by the Design Council, called "Living By Design". This was part of a series of educational videos made for students of science & engineering. I left Lotus in 1988, no idea what happened to the car - nice to hear it still exists, even if it is stuck on the wall of City College! I have a few photos of the work we did, and an old copy of the video somewhere...
