  1. Guys, finally started to work on the body. I have the bible of Mike Wilkins on the fiberglass, so bought an orbital sander....tons of 80 grid paper razor blades and all the other stuff for the job. Ok, i think that if this is the best and SAFE way to do it I would need another 7 years to complete the job....it's just a cyclopic and very slow method for me, the paint is so hard to take out with hands that after a couple of hours, looking at the car, I said: Oh my God!!! So, start to think about the Aircraft/Boat paint remover, if used well and with attention it will not ruin the gelcoat, other option could be the Soda Blasting system but I have not any company here and is very expensive. Last choice...hotgun paint remover... Please advise me, if not I will order a complete NEW bodyshell from Lotus.... Giorgio

  4. Current pump went on September last year. I had the car off the road for three years with no issues on the previous pump. Just got back from dropping the car at Sportomotive, Dave there thought it may be an airlock so fingers crossed that's all it is. I have to say though that having finally got the car going yesterday she is starting easily, so some of the good work done last year is proving its worth. I am certainly looking forward to getting her back!

  5. Finally another person who shares my sensitivities! Exactly your feelings. But I am more brutal in my assessment perhaps - at 130 its 'just' about acceptable but noiser than a Golf for example. 150+ conversation has to be somewhat emphasised 200+ its bad 250+ it's ridiculous I'm fortunate enough to enjoy driving on many of the same roads you do However, I do know the cause - Both the main door seal and the B pillar window seal are not making adequate contact. The 2012 main door seal IS swappable to earlier cars imo (I discussed this while at Hethel and the difference is in the door lock pins NOT the door frame, so it fits). It should be slightly bulkiner and fit better but that is not the main problem. The main is the primary seal against the B pillar window. The first circa 3-8cm often hardly seal, depending on how your window is adjusted. If firm at the top to the roof, the bigger the issue below. If you adjust to to firmer below you get the pulling issue you describe. I solved this by trying various silicone and (better) rubber tubes to bulk out the seat so the window seals. I have added 2 tubes till I find the perfect sized one. The softer the tube the better, the diameter will vary depending per case. The main door seal I have bulked out a bit at the same spot using the stick on foam tape that the factory uses inside the doors to damp the door lock cable from the hitting the door frame. With the seal working here the wind nose is what is should be - MUCH quieter.

  10. When I first did my clutch I took the old pressure plate and the new spigot bearing to my local Halfords so I was able to buy a multi tool with the correct fittings. OK so I've got a few extra items I didn't need, but more importantly I've got an alignment tool that is perfect for the job ☺

  11. How you getting on Charlie, when removing the ppower steering pipes I did mine, one from the pump and the second from the steering box on the near side, be prepaired for corroded fitting on this end though, I had a local hydraulis hose supplier make me up a new set using s/s pipes for under forty quid, perfect. Once you re assemble all you have to do is get the fron of the car up on a jack, have someone turn the steering back and forth and refill with fresh oil, this gets rid of the air in the system, then just keep an eye on the level for a while.

  12. Cracking race helped by good coverage picking up on the many battles. And the message to Vettel, "Daniel is faster than you."

  13. Mmmm. cable tying bits of plastic tube to your grille. Now that's classy. How much grief would Lotus have got if the car was released with such a gash load of old rubbish as a mounting solution? I can't believe anyone feels that is a better way of doing things. Just keep the standard plate. Even with few digits a full size plate looks the most elegant. Small or cut down plates belong on chavvy grot boxes.

  15. That's a good start... I can't see how anyone would fail to be impressed given a couple of weeks to get to grips with it. Is this all part of the build up to April's announcement?
