  1. Filming on Sardinia for 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. They used the same S1 as the camera car up front and mounted the camera with the camera man on the rear. Bond all the way!

  2. It'll be fine. It's not that sort of programme this time. It's an adventure where although the cars are important, they play second fiddle to the location.

  3. I am not sure if I am looking forward to it or not. Clarkson is bound to completely slag off the Esprit "Plastic car blah blah" despite the fact that Lotus were 20 years ahead of everyone else in use of composites which are now commonplace in cars.

  4. I replaced the rev counter, temp and oil pressure gauge bulbs today, 15 minutes all together, including sorting through my box of electric bits for new bulbs. Its very easy, 4 screws to remove the mask, 4 more screws to release the instrument panel, pull it forward enough to get your hand in behind the gauges and pull the bulb holders out of the gauges, replace bulbs and put it all back. The rev counter bulb is screw in, like an old fashioned torch bulb, the other two are push in. Protect the lower horizontal part of the binnacle, the edges of the steel panel the instruments are mounted is very sharp, I now know how the damage on mine was caused. I made the plastic spacer and washer pack captive behind the LH top panel fixing by using a small piece of thin card (from the bulb packet) as a nut.

  5. A screen grab from a very interesting documentary on Youtube about Bond in the Bahamas. Never seen a shot of the Esprit sub being craned in/out the water before. One of the static shells was given to the crane owner who kept it as a garden ornament before being restored by the Fleming Foundation. The credit for finding it is often given to the FF but I heard that Peter Nelson of Cars the Star fame actually found it but let slip, and the FF beat him to it before he could get there.

  6. Jonny - that's a good assessment of top gear.... it's a comedy/entertainment, it's not a consumer programme like it was 20 odd years ago. Being obnoxious is Clarksons forte. He's made a career out of it. I don't want to hear sensible reviews of medium sized hatchbacks. Middle aged guys arsing around in supercars and being funny is a lot more entertaining, my 8 year old loves it as well. If I ever have to buy a medium sized hatchback and I end up buying the wrong one I'll just have to live with it.
