  1. Hi Guys, just to let you know i did'nt sell the Elite , did'nt put a great deal of effort into selling TBH, and the add on Retro Rides (only place it was advertised) probably made it sound a lot worse than it is. No intention of selling now, just that i found it hard to justify three cars but what the hell Been driving it at least once a week but there is a worrying creaking noise coming from the N/S/F, also oil leaking into the passenger side (from the leaking lower cam cover) so wondering if the creaking is a crack in the shell at the exhaust manifold ?, is this common ?, engine will need to come out to investigate i think . Will probably do an engine out body off resto on the car in the future anyway.

  2. Sorry Adrian - I missed your question and only found it when searching the archives. An X prefix in the engine number means 1975 Domestic C spec Cams.Produced January 1976, serial number 12414 off the line (these numbers consecutively include all 907's - including those that went into Jensen Healeys).

  3. I knew the Esprit was not my last Lotus. Just bought a really nice, tidy Elise s2. Fun, fun, fun.

  4. I had a little Esprit S1 get together yesterday to try and start my car (for the first time since 1989). In attendance were Matt Oxley, Martin Folkes, Jon Roberts and Mike Dickison. Here are Jon's, Martin's and Matt's cars... You don't see an S1 for ages and then three turn up! Jon's is looking good with its new paint job... Although he did have to limp home after his alternator packed up when he was half way to mine. Martin's car is also a very early one (108G) and you can see it at the back here... This is my car... With Matt's behind... After a bit of a fight it reluctantly started no thanks to a couple of mistakes on my part with the carbs which Matt sorted out. The carbs need setting up but we ran out of time and enthusiasm towards the end. The bad news is there's water in the oil. I paid to have the engine rebuilt but things don't look good... There's also a water leak under pressure which neither I nor Matt could find and the timing belt has started to cut through the pipe on the water pump. So two steps forward and one back this times as opposed to the other way round! But at least the thing didn't go bang Thanks to all the Lotus boys for their efforts yesterday. Paul.

  5. Would have loved to but made us very late, had to get home and then back to Newbury and on to West Sussex to pick up an [ahem] VX220 with a mate. Had wanted to take the long way for a bit of a drive. Really need to meet up for a blast some time? Are you going down to MBW?

Chamo-me Miguel e tenho um Speedster 2.2. Gostava de esclarecer certas dúvidas (a nível de limpeza e reparação interior dos painéis) e de conviver com alguns proprietários do mesmo ou da Lotus, sou do Minho Abraço a todos

  8. They did mark a lot of the fibreglass panels with the last 6 digits of the chassis number inside to assist with the build in the factory. Inside door panels, light pods, bonnet etc..will be marked with marker pen or sometimes written while the gel is still soft.

  9. This is the e11 sticker that denotes what type approval the car passed. I have found a supplier on the net who will reproduce them if I can provide them with an original. Mine are intact so I intend on getting them over to him asap. There should also be a smaller one next to it. I will post photos soon

  11. So..... Decided that the best way to get rid of my jet lag was to attempt to remove the EGR system today, what could possibly go wrong... As a long time lotus owner we all know that there are days that do not go to plan and there are days when you want to push the car over a cliff... So I started in good spirits, and 90 minutes later.... It's was all done... Really... No stripped threads, no gushing cuts, no lost washers, every thing came off perfectly, PNM supplied the 2 blanking plates and gaskets, all went back together like a dream, then went to start her up and, vroooom... Lovely burble back from my PNM silenced de cat pipes and central exhaust, I can even hear the turbos spooling up nicely and the car ticks over much smoother and actually runs a lot smoother and with increased boost, I guess the leaking EGR pipe must have been robbing some pressure into the turbo, so sat at lights as happy as can be when I notice smoke pouring out of the engine grill on the rear panel...... Crap, I bolt out of the car and open the rear hatch to be greeted by........?... Nothing more than the WD 40 I had sprayed all over the bolts before removing them being burned up by the exhaust and turbos, PHEW I had a great day today, but I know that the other jobs in hand will cost yards of skin and pints of blood further down the line.... I would recommend removing the EGR pipe, I had to do as the pipe had split but the car is so much smooth and runs so much better without all that emission dodging tosh!!!

  12. Here's my brief comparison against the V6 Cup around Goodwood. The car was Bell and Colvill's demo being driven, very respectfully, by a well known ex-Lotus employee. Not mentioning any names but he was taking it very easy. As was I until about 3.30 in. You can see for yourself what happened then. To be fair to the Elise it is £20k cheaper and Goodwood is one of the fastest tracks in the country but the Exige was had it for breakfast down the straights, as it should with 125 more bhp, much wider, stickier tyres and so on. Regardless, the Elise looked absolutely awesome in the bright spring sunshine. Toxic Green really suits it. I didn't get a chance to drive it unfortunately but I bet it was a riot.

  16. On an S1, its on the plaque in the engine bay. They only stamped the chassis frame itself on the later S2's. Being glassfibre they couldn't stamp the body which made ringing these cars ridiculously easy back in the day.... This is why I am always slightly concerned when I see details on a car that don't quite add up to its spec. Changing the identity on an S1 is as easy as swapping numberplates and drilling out two rivets under the bonnet. further discussion on elite and eclat chassis markings (and location on S2's) here: http://www.thelotusforums.com/forums/topic/65139-any-full-restorations-with-q-reg-issues-from-dvla/?hl=%2Bstamped+%2Bchassis#entry506244

Aparece!

  19. A suggestion for next year: Maybe make this a Brooklands event rather than a MBW event? The downside is everyone would have to pay for entry (Brooklands dont make any concession for people who exhibit cars) but the upsides would be full museum access, parking on the banking for all, or under Concorde etc. Although there will be major building works going on there next year, not sure how this will affect events. But might be worth speaking to them.
