  2. Well with just over a week to go I can announce we will be picking up our Evora 400 in a couple of days ready for the launch! We've also decided to amend our prices for the launch ( www.hofmanns.co.uk ) across the range - our demo cars especially at some fantastic prices! We look forward to seeing you at the launch!

  3. Hello, I'm a belgian hobby photographer with a great passion for classic cars. My personal car for the weekends is a Lotus Seven Replica (Dax Rush) As I am a member of the belgian Lotusforum.be I get the opportunity to take photos of other mermbers most precious possession. I will here share some of my favorite Lotus photos. This photo is made inside the workshop of the Belgian Lotusdealer FKM (Frédéric Koninckx Motors) in Antwerp. It was also used as a cover for the limited Lotusforum.be calendar. The very last Esprit ever build ! VIN 10621 www.lotusespritworld.com/EOtherstuff/LastEsprit.html 1964 Lotus Elan 26R during the Spa Summer Classic 2011 My all-time favorite Lotus: the splendid eleven ! This 1957 Lotus XI has a racing history in different countries in the South of Africa. (Coventry Climax 1100cc engine) The car belonged to George Pfaff of the 'Ecurie Rhodesia' who raced the car until the early 60's. It's also one of 8 or 10 Elevens build with the headrest and rear bonnet in one piece. I'll keep you guys updated when I have new Lotus photos. More classic car photos also not Lotus related on my Flickr photopage. http://www.flickr.com/photos/stijnsioen/

  6. I'm sure there is more to come from the 311. The fastest Exige V6 CupRs lap Brands Hatch GP something like 4 or 5 seconds quicker than they did a couple of years ago, that's with the same tyres and same bhp. The Evora 400 is also lapping Hethel faster than the Exige V6 now, it used to post similar laptimes. There are lots of sectors at the Nordschleife but the 7.06 laptime was taken from the best sector times of the two fastest laps. If they only took it from two laps that adds credibility. Normally the ideal lap is taken from as many laps as there are sectors. Hopefully 7.06 will prove to be a conservative estimate and Lotus posts a time that shuts the doubters up!

  10. You can still get the original Trofeos if you want. Bell&Colvill quoted me something around £1200 for a set of four. Two rears were £780 or so last year. I went for a set of four Avon ZZRs at £830, which is a really good price but you have to attend a Lotus Cup round to get them for that (plus you have to present the wheels to the Avon guys loose, they won't take the wheels off the car for you). I wouldn't put TrofeoR's on the back with original Trofeos on the front if it were my car but your rears should be good for plenty more than 2 trackdays, especially if you are taking it fairly easy. I used to get at least 4 or 5 dry track days out of a set of rears and my fronts lasted for many more than that. The rear Trofeos that just came off my car drove to the Ring and Spa and back plus three days at Goodwood.

  12. Can only guess for now but it looks as though there was a high pressure turbine (HPT) failure. These are the fastest turning parts in a turbofan engine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbofan#/media/File:Turbofan_operation.svg The main fan at the front is powered by a geared-down secondary shaft. I think that at least one HPT disc has failed, probably disintegrated, at very high speed and that you are looking at shrapnel damage rather than an explosion. If the HPT disc had failed and been ejected in one piece I would expect far more serious damage. Jet engines are designed to contain fan blade loss events. Turbine discs will never been contained within the engine as there is too much energy to dissipate.

  13. Maybe the thought is that they are there for the passengers? Hang on, if the driver is any good, passenger should have his/her eyes shut. So no use again. Maybe, it is something to do with the Asian market as suggested somewhere? Should still be an option. Add them if you want. Not a standard item. Embossed into the leather may be a nicer, more subtle option?

  14. I'm not being an apologist for the 'theoretical' lap time but it's made up from real stats, what's the difference? A clear lap of the 'Ring is near impossible and if Marc Basseng says it's capable of a sub 7 I'm more than inclined to believe him.

  15. you can just saw a slot in them with a hacksaw and then use a screwdriver? or use a centre punch at the edge to loosen them off? done it a few times! even had one with the bolt shear heads still intact!

  17. Douglas, give me a shout when you arrive. We are still classed as being down for track time.... if this is the case, you can take my place on track as we are not going on track. I guess you will have to clarify upon arrival.

  20. If the car is in good health you're no more likely to have any issues than any other car. I've done a round trip to Slovenia 2200 miles in the S2, no probs. Also done a 1000 miles in 24 hours in a car built in 1934 with no breakdowns... Pete

  21. I finally fixed the knocking on my car. It wasn't the trunk lid in the end. To fix it, I tightened everything I could: The cross member over the gearbox, the 2 body bolts on that same cross member, re-tightened the bulk head bolts (after upgrading from the weak spec of the stock bolts), and I also tightened the nuts for the bolts that are just above the gas tanks. You can see the other end of the bolts when you open the door, but you do not need to hold those bolt heads when tightening the nuts over the tanks. I had to loosen the vacuum reservoir to get my wrench on the nuts on the drivers side (US car).

  25. Crikey... has it really been a year since in posted in here?! (Time flies, when you have a baby!) I've probably quite a few others I should add to this thread... I'll have a dig about! Anyway - In preperation for an upcoming Lotus shoot (Stay tuned - I'll post up pics in a couple of weeks...), I thought I'd best dig out the light painting kit, and head out into the darkness to refresh my memory / skills... I say out into the darkness - This was shot in the exotic location that is: my driveway. Hiding in the shadows by Martyn Lewis, on Flickr
