  1. Just to prove that sometimes, it's even clean!

  2. Just got back from the dealership. Traded in my 2010 Exige and ordered an Evora 400. Now the wait begins! Been driving Eliges for 10 years now and it's time for a change. I saw a prototype 400 last year and have been following the car for the past 2 years. This is the first new car i've ever bought and i'm nervous but excited!

  3. It's an S. I drove an R and I think that'll be the next step, but I'm using it as a daily and I'm only 23 so the S seemed like the more sensible option!

  4. Well, erm, I'm not quite sure how to describe that experience. I'm a bit stunned! Apart from a caterham I haven't experienced a car so raw, so involving, and so much fun. But where the caterham was just full on fun, the exige is a much more serious piece of kit. A great noise, amazing handling and steering feel, serious acceleration, and a full on sensory overload! The dealership was nice enough to let me go without a salesperson with me so my 9 year old son sat in the passenger seat as we ripped around the country lanes having an absolute blast. Laughing, grinning, at times screaming, and basically loving it. What at a car! I can't wait to put one on my driveway

  6. I did it on my push bike when I turned 40. I did 3 weeks training then off I went. Not the most direct route as I ended up doing around 1050 miles and went up part of the west coast of Scotland before crossing over along Loch Ness to Inverness then straight north to Betty Hill right at the top, then right along the coast through Thurso to JOG. Bloody fantastic and would recommend it to anyone. Absolutely amazing trip. Got pished in Fort William and bloody hell, that next day, I swear I was sweating pure alcohol for the first 3 hours of my ride - bloody painful experience that.

  9. Hi Frank , it's not unheard of but thankfully not too common a problem. 3) look in the cam cover, with a torch and hopefully you'll be able to judge whether there's more oil than you put there when building. Also, if you were to unscrew the oil pressure sender you would be able to see oil weep out if there had recently(stop engine then pretty much immediately check) been pressure in the oilways. 2) There needs to be a good seal around the pickup tube, where the olive seals it downwards of the pump. 1) You can try: priming the pump, I'm not sure that petroleum jelly is a good idea but oil will be fine. Removing the oil cooler sandwich plate and centre extension if the cooler system isn't primed, if it is primed then leave it in place. We faced a similar problem on an engine that had been stripped and rebuilt. In the end I put a bolt through a spare pulley, used a timing belt and spun the oil pump for ages until, we got oil pressure showing.

  15. I could fix that, let me have another go in a muddy field? Please! Edit: have you actually washed the wheel arches this time?! It's great in the metal and a bright interior to set it off goes a long way. Not sure how it would look with a black interior, but it's lovely with the red leather like Greg has.

  17. @pickle if you go on the introductions section, on page 5 you'll find a thread called "lucky lady". The thread is only 2 pages long but has loads of pictures of ours. I really like the metallic grey. It's a little understated in a good way and the metallic fleck accentuates the contours. I really like many of the other colours but remain very happy with our choice.

  20. Just out of interest Lee (or any other 400 owner for that matter), what dB figures do they state on the V5 for your car? For my NA, based on the OE exhaust, they give 87dB stationary and 75dB drive-by. However at a track session (where, fortunately, they wanted as much noise as possible for the particular event taking place) with the current 2bular system and valve open, I registered 108 and (like you) 98 respectively so I guess I might as well score Zandvoort off my list of tracks to visit, - even with the valve closed it's over 90 on a drive-by. I do love hitting the ASBO button though, big kid that I am! My major concern is that, with the figures there in print on the registration papers, this is going to be a future MOT requirement so I can expect to receive a piece of paper headed in red ink with the single word NOISE written large underneath, .

  25. Are you sure the discs just don't need a light surface skim on lathe. Check the thickness as it's maybe all that's needed this time round.

  30. Well I have to temper that statement slightly. Although it wasn't an advisory on the cert, my friendly MoT man did say that my back brake discs do need replacing. Corroded on the insides. Why do most rear discs do that? From my invoice history I do know that Jeff, the former owner upgraded them all to better spec PNM jobbies. So if I go with that flow, it's: Pair PNM rear 321mm rear grooved discs - £421.00 Pair rear Ferodo DS2500 brake pads - £137.63 Total £560-ish Ouchy ouchy ouch ouch <sigh> I love my Esprit, he costs more than my women to run...

  31. I have definitely become a Lotus guy. Went to a local car show this morning, packed with loads of interesting cars, I found myself wandering around only interested in finding other Lotus's, and to my surprise, today there were quite a few.

  32. I took a mate of mine out for a drive in my Esprit last week. He's appreciably younger than me shall we say. I have promised him a spin for ages and finally got around to it for his 28th birthday. He was like a pig in poo. The first thing he said when he got in was "I had an Esprit Corgi model when I was little and you could press the roof and the headlights popped up". Considering that he was about eight when he had that and that was about the same year my V8 was made, I let him sit in the drivers seat and press the headlight button. Repeatedly. I have never, ever, seen such fascination on a grown man's face.

  33. I'm surprised that @Barrykearley hasn't rocked up here yet. But then maybe not. Your silver V8 is probably embarrassing to him Esa

  36. James, my Eclat has 205/60VR 14 NCT's and manual says "22 psi for 2 occupants and luggage, or 30 front, 32 rear, for fully laden and over 100mph". I tend to go in between at about 26 or 27.. Excel will probably be something similar..

  38. Kimbers Gutted for you mate, but the head has to think before the heart these days but still feel sad you had to let it go. On a brighter note glad you have found a buyer in the names of James and glad the car was kept among the forums, not only for an easy sale for yourself but also a way to keep the car been seen in future posts by James. When circumstances change you i am sure you will get another Lotus after all its in your blood mate.

  39. I asked @Kimbers not to say until the deal was done, but I am pleased to say I am the new owner of his FECKin Excel. It is currently parked in the factory car park, as my 400 is going back in for more remedial work next week. This means I'm going to be rotating cars until the problems with the 400 are all fixed! It will of course be featuring on my channel soon and I intend to drive the car, slowly finishing off the restoration which Kimbers has started (and nearly finished). I'm quite lucky in that the majority of work I have to do is just niggly little stuff, and cosmetic.
