  9. "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want...and deserve to get it good and hard. As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."– H. L. Mencken

  10. Turbo rebuild complete! Was very easy, however it is untested and if it isn't perfect I've wasted my time! The most difficult bit was cleaning. Two grades of blasting media, petrol and compressed air! You need a gator type socket to hold the turbine end. The compressor wheel nut tightens in the normal sense so there is a big risk of it undoing. In my opinion you must use thread lock. I had Loctite on hand. The original bearings were really worn there is much reduced play now. You should also use assembly lube and follow the priming guide I put a link on here to so that the bearing have oil when you fire up. Look forward to testing this awesome machine once the wastegate mod is done and I've fixed the gear change and fuel system! ??? Forgot to say getting the Turbine shaft in is tricky as the piston ring needs to compress without snapping. No alternative but to take you time and persist until it slips in. The bearing clips must be in correctly otherwise it won't last very long!

  11. Having spoken to Bibs, it seems there is no register or list of all the Sport 300 Esprits or X180R made (approximately 84 cars in total made between 1993-1995). With Bibs help and hopefully the Lotus factory, I hope to track all the cars made and their subsequent history. If you own, previously owned, have a photo, know an owner, see a car etc.... or if you have raced X180R or similar Esprits, please either contact myself ([email protected]) or Bibs.

  12. Read a few threads on a number of forums where owners of the 360 Cup cars mention/complain about the floating discs 'rattling' at low and medium speeds. As we all know its only a noise issue and is a feature of such discs. I have heard it on mine and decided to look for a solution...... I noticed Brembo offered some anti rattle clips for the likes or Porsche etc I then found a supplier to AP racing make a clip suitable for the AP Racing floating bobbins The result is 6 of the 12 bolts receive a clip on each disc, then as if by magic the noise is gone!!!!! Here is the disc on my car with the clips fitted (with new bolts of course)

  18. I can thoroughly recommend Allon White and don't let the distance put you off - I'm in Scotland. I had my V8 in for service with Murray Motors two years ago and they recommended them. They have used them for Aston Martin and Rolls Royce re-trims and if its good enough for them.... Murray took care of the dis-assembly, shipping and re-fitting. I went for a more expensive leather admittedly but they did an outstanding job, look fantastic. I sent a sample of the leather (cut from the back of the headrest) and they got an almost perfect match to the 15 year old interior. And a nice Lotus roundel to boot.

  20. Doing car videos, it would seem! Among other things. I frequently see these kind of cars with over £50,000 of options, which is interesting because it really begs the question - is it fair to compare these cars at their "base" price? The list price of the Evora was £72K, I'd say the average LIST price of sold cars was maybe 75-80K. But then if your Ferrari's list price is £180k, but they're being sold at £230k... big difference. Same with Porsche - if the options are cosmetic, fine, but if a car NEEDS these £10K of performance toys to get a certain laptime, it's no longer the laptime of an £80K car, it's the laptime of a £90k car...

  21. I believe a small number of RGBs were used as SIlverstone experience cars. It would be worth doing a bit more digging in this regard (Lotus Silverstone?). The driver's seat base looks a little tired but that could be just general wear. The mileage could be regarded as 'high' to some, but as always it's condition and history that is key. RGBs tend not to hang around, especially Solar Yellow ones. *edit: Did a bit of digging on the yellow forum and apparantly it is indeed an ex experience car with no service history. Best to confirm direct with Snows.

  24. It almost makes me cry. If only Lotus had had the money to develop an appropriate gearbox to handle the power we could have had a 500bhp V8 Esprit Hewland, Ford Cosworth, whatever

  27. @JAWS That looks amazing mate. I really like the subtlety of it. My favourite details of cars are always the ones people miss if they're not paying attention. Really like the carbon spoiler. I'd be tempted to take it even a stage further and paint it but leave just the lip unpainted so the weave showed through. and @The Pits I can't believe what I'm hearing! Lotus WILL do something spectacular with the Exige, I'm banking on it!

  28. I am using the Braille GU1R.......Starts the V6 with no issues from both cold and hot. The bracket I have had mad is under 200g, so the battery 'package' is just under 3.2kgs. The Standard battery and steel carrier in my car come in at 19kgs I think a 15.8 kg saving is brilliant and so very simple!! The bracket is carbon made by a new company called Osport design , its super light and strong, The one shown is prototype no 3 or 4 I cant remember!! The final version will be almost identical apart from the mounting points will be moved to help get the battery fitted position a little better. The final price will be confirmed once I have the finished carrier, but a ball park figure will be about £700-750 + vat for the battery and carrier and about 750-800+vat for a full kit including the correct lithium charger

  30. Just another night in Dubai where the Evora gets the royal treatment for a bourgeois price. Taking pictures of people taking pictures of your car is so meta.

  31. Funnily enough I had reservations about adding a carbon spoiler to mine due to the subtleness of the colour differentiation but have grown to like it and had quite a few compliments. However, I do think I need the Sport 410 carbon front access panel and/or alloy wheels to balance out the modification... I do love the duck tail style of the Sport 410 and much prefer it to the separated style of the Evora/400..

  34. Prop shaft out - must be the easiest job on a Lotus (once the Diff is off!). I'd assumed there would be fixings at the front but it just slid out. Sweet - on to the new brake pipes next!

  37. I was allowed to scan some folders full of photos and brochures from the 70s So I spent all Sunday in front of a scanner, and here's a preview! I'll rename, sort and crop/resize all files and then post it in a gallery/library. If of any interest, I also can offer the full 600 dpi resolution files for download (about 2 GB). As soon as I have some spare time... Now, enjoy!

  38. Yes. So does anybody know where to get 260 Eclat/Elite drilled discs? There are suppliers on eBay who claim, they deliver the stock diameter, but they don't. They have also the little 246 Triumph ones...

  39. I have that kit on my Eclat, supplied by PNM. Fit it, you will not be disappointed. Select the fast road pads, material is soft, works well from cold and takes a LOT of abuse before brake fade. Performance does drop off when the pads go below half way but still very good. I run my kit with out the dust shield and have no issues since I fitted them over 4 years ago now.
