  1. I had a very strange moment today, leaving the Ring entrance parking lot at Devils Diner, waiting at the roundabout. Couldn‘t believe my eyes when i saw „my cars sister“ 😂 What a coincidence! Same spec besides GT430 instead of Sport and the black brakes. We stopped at the car park and had a nice chat, the owner is a real car enthusiast and also has a Lancia Stratos 😮

  2. Hi Paul. Good to see you back! My car is sitting on comps at last! I'd like to say it was easy, but physically putting them on was the easy bit!

  3. i have to agree 😁 Here are a few more from yesterday. From all the cars at the track, the 380 Cup probably got the most looks and pictures taken yesterday.

  4. I had a great day at Snetterton this week trying to keep up with @Arun_D. I was soon reminded of just how fast the Exige V6 is on track and just how much fun they are!

  7. Thanks Iain. That's very much confirmed my thoughts. I made a box when I first bought the car along the lines of the "rear opening". Although I can't recall modelling on anything, I recon I'll just be recovering that in a consistent carpet finish as I retrim the rest of the boot. History in Brief: I bought the car in 84, ran it for 4 or 5 years then one winter got fed up of de icing the inside as much as the outside !!! That's Lotus for you - - Don't we just love 'em. Took it off the road - Body off - Chassis refurbished by Spyder - Rebuilt chassis with new shocks and bushes and body back on. Body work rubbed back and did 75% of a re-spray ( couldn't afford to get a professional job), --- That took us up to about 1992, then marriage, kids, house moves and you can guess the rest.... It kinda stopped progressing ( and in reality started going backwards). Several false starts to get going again, but then 6 weeks ago went along to the show at NEC, met the guy's on the Éclat stand and the bug seems to be returning. I may well start a post on the refurb section of the site. - Starting with something simple and contained like the boot area. Attached a couple of photo's from about 3 years ago when I rolled it out the garage and come closest to the danger zone of restarting Another request : Anyone got the items 9, 11 and 12 from the diagram at top of post still in their car, who could measure and send me the dimensions (including cut outs). I can always make to eye, but the closer I can keep to original the happier I'll be on these details. Now back to catching up on 8 years of post ( 18 pages worth) on this Elite / Excel / Éclat section. Coming across some usefull detail Tony

  8. No the 1st 10 were made at ket hall this was the second made. 100g was the 9th 103g was the 1st. the 1st five were pre production engineering cars. I have the ket hall records and have worked on 3 ket hall cars. They have many differences. It says 79 on the vin as it was designated the type 79 not the year... Engine number is X as esprit had not been designated C at that time. A great find. Matt

  9. It’s gone to a good home. I wouldn’t have sold it, had it not been for the fact that Mrs Pops has a brain tumour, which we’ve lived with for a few years but it seems daft to have so much cash tied up. Equally, we found out only this Wednesday that the tumour has regrown, so that reaffirmed the need for it to go and for our savings pot to grow again. (Here’s a thread I started to chart our BT journey http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/129770-brain-cancer-sucks/ ) I do have a new toy on order, but that was my dream car and I’m very glad it’s gone to a good home. I got the impression that as soon as Will saw it, he knew I’d looked after it. Used it well. But looked after it. I made the mistake of adding up paperwork... ceramic coat, paint film, pads, tyres Still, some very memorable trips in the (almost) 2 years I’ve had it, some with Mrs Pops and some without. Next? Well it’s smaller and blue... still “Handmade in Hethel” of course.

  10. It's mega! Credit to Lee, it looks brand new and drives perfectly. I hope to keep it in similar condition. Great to meet a fellow enthusiast as well!! Now a lot filthier than when it left. Rain was biblical on the way home and I think the windows may need a little adjusting, although from September it will hopefully be kept in the garage.

  12. So the car had to go an a trailer (3 miles!) to ATSpeed Racing as it was booked in for carb tuning anyway. It turns out the float levels were wrong after all. All fixed now no leaks and balanced nicely. Happy Bunny

  13. Anyone reading this in the future should note that older Stevens cars had varying window motors fitted. DON'T just order the Jag XJS motors...the pictures look the same but the motors MIGHT be too large (as was the case with my '88). A reputable Esprit enthusiast that has owned MANY cars (same affliction as @Barrykearley), told me that Lotus used 7 - 8 different motors over the life of the Esprit. The S4 window lift mechanism was VERY different from older cars.

  16. I had a few minor rubbing issues on the arch liners, but nothing that worries me. Worth noting that you need the Seriously Lotus Forged wheels for them to fit. ETA: For those interested, in my pursuit of perfection, I'm going to buy a new rear wing. Lots of money wasted unfortunately, but I am aiming to make the car finished to a really high quality so it's either that or go back to the stock wing.

  19. In the absence of this part, I had to redo the 3D and set it all up on Shapeways They are not as smooth as original parts, as 3d printed. Fits my Esprit and looks ten times an improvement to old, faded and split ones. https://www.shapeways.com/product/X3DAHJRA7/lotus-esprit-citroen-cx-tvr-pedestal-cover

  21. Not our fastest lap of the day but certainly the one with the best view. We were both doing a lot better with a few more laps under our belts. BTG the 270r will do an 8 minute with a little more commitment quite easily, the 430 of course will smash that. Lap 1 viewing the 430 from behind, spin the camera for lap 2 in front. Be gentle on @Trevsked and I, we’re both ‘Ring newbies. Sorry about the sound. Still can’t get an external microphone for the camera. Exige 430 Cup puts in an appearance at 16:00 and you can hear it property blast past as we pull into the pits.

  24. But now available on any Evora? So not that much of a homologation issue... Ill enjoy my 430 - and then I’ll not have anything further to do with Lotus. Unfortunately every seemingly innocent comment here generates further information which conflicts with what somebody somewhere was originally told by the sales force. This bullshit has no place in any sales team and undermines the good work which the engineers do. Give me the car that I want - I’m happy to pay for it. Don’t give me what you think I want but then tell the next customer that they can choose whatever they fancy!

  25. There's lots of things I need to try Barry: Suborbital flight with Virgin Galactic A hot sweaty night with Kylie Drinking Cheshire Chocolate Porter until I can no longer see Swimming in a cage surrounded by sharks Eating beef fillet steak in a hot tub Having a full body massage from Madonna WOT and nearly 180mph on the Autobahn in the V8 Buying a pair of proper patent leather shoes in Northampton Emigrating to somewhere it doesn't rain much and I can ride my motorbikes in the sunshine Getting seriously drunk with Chillidoggy My one and only £1 Premium Bond finally coming up after 50 years Getting progressively deaf in my later years such that I can wind my Technics separates in the lounge up to full volume and FEEL the music Trying an S4? Erm nope, it doesn't seem to appear on that list...

  37. I've heard V8 Esprits are good for weight loss. If not from stress, then for making their owners flat broke and thus unable to purchase sustenance. @Barrykearley, you wouldn't happen to be tracking your lean mass as well? It'd be shame if you're just wasting away muscle... Edit: regarding not missing eating garbage. It's interesting in that if you just eat clean long enough you won't even want to eat crap on a cheat day because there's just not much joy to be derived from eating it. I used to love a QP with cheese, or pizza, breakfast cereal etc, but since starting a strict bodybuilding diet about 16 months ago where I began looking into what different foods are comprised of I've just gone off stuff whose ingredients are simply out of whack (looking at most things made by Kelloggs...). And eating a QP now just makes me acutely aware of the fact my body doesn't like it. I get drowsy, slow and inefficient...

  39. My thoughts are with you and your family Lee, just read the VX thread, wow what a journey you've had, cars are great, but just stuff, your priorities are spot on, not the end of an era but the beginning of a new one and long may it continue, four years ago you'd have given anything to have Alex here today and here she still is fighting that shitty disease, seen the kids off to school, next secondary school, then uni, keep that glass half full. Best regards and best wishes Steve

  40. Neal, it looks like you've adjusted them since this photo was taken, at least on the passenger side, but just in case, you want those steel harness webbing sliding buckles nice and close to the bar, certainly not protruding through the slots over to your side of the seat.

  43. So - took the S4 for a trip out to the shops. my gosh - this is going to be a tough decision. The s4 is so precise with regards to the suspension and gearbox - the power delivery feels a tiny bit less but so much smoother it almost feels more. I’d also say it sounds better with the twin pipes. The turbo comes on sooner and is definitely very different to the S4s kick in the pants Ive got the replacement speed sensor come for the s4s - I’ll fit that tomorrow if I can.

  45. Hi there I ran the car in but unfortunately was given the opportunity as a passenger in a TLF member's car that had the zr265 treatment. Sold! His car has the Nitrons on it, I opted for the 1 way JRZs. For the following reasons: 1. I'm only planning on 3/4 track days per year and 2. Management approval for the car was obtained by a promise that she could pootle around in the Elise over the summer. Track day specific suspension might have been a step too far. The stereo delete and no noise proofing is already a contentious issue. I'm planning on only uprating the brake pads, stock brakes are sufficient for my purposes at the moment. As I'm sure everyone who drives the zr265 conversion asserts, the mid range pull is manifestly improved. It's nicely torquey now. And noisier. You can really hear the supercharger whine. The kit involves: remap/ airbox/ supercharger pulley/ signature exhaust / heat shielding I assume it's all reversible. Sans suspension, cost is well under 5k. The car's engine power was measured at 255 so relatively good value per % increase. The car's only done 2500 miles so potentially room for it to grow into the mods too. By the way, H111 did the work. Great service and communications from those guys. Cant fault them. Sorry the post's a bit rambling, I don't do much forum posting!

  48. I'm not sure yet as it hasn't arrived yet. Will be with me next week. I don't think Komo-tec sell just the mount, this was a special favour for the previous owner of the wing. I do think the Komo-tec wing is nicer, but as this was second hand the price made sense. Knowing me, I'll change it in time anyway...
