  1. That’s nothing - I was chatting to @Steve V8 the weekend - he’s managed to make a tank of fuel last a whole year

  2. A bit late posting on this but just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone including Mr @Bibs for the Perfect Day last Saturday, it really encapsulated everything that is great about Lotus, beautiful Cars and brilliant, passionate enthusiasts, funnily enough it reminded me of the first Festival of Speed which I attended many years ago but this time just for Lotus Cars, what more could you ask for, Awesome I loved seeing the Geely top brass snapping away at all the Classics, made me feel confident in the future and that they really appreciate the Lotus History and will bring Lotus back

  4. I would like to share my experiences with my new braking system that @Chillidoggy made on my car. The cooperation with the guys was excellent although, all they promised was performed with the best performance. I chose to transport my Esprit LHD S4 95 to Watford, to guys I do not know, I quickly found that these guys @Sparky and @Chillidoggy were very professional and I became confident. They sent pictures throughout the process and quickly informed if they found things they wondered if they were going to fix. My first experience when I got the car back was, what a difference now the car can

  8. Quick up date , For those not in the loop on this , the gear box has let go at speed, (under acceleration).. circa 60+mph Symptoms were. First engine hit rev limiter then total loss of drive....... I rolled for approx 1/2 a mile trying to find lay-by.. No real noise during the roll but maybe a bit rough sound like a bearing gone bad.. After stopping , no drive in 1st.. 3rd... 5th.. Partial drive in 2nd ..4th ..Rev... but only so far, then clonk and no drive... When towed by the police to safer spot there was the same bad bearing noise but the odd click /clonk which i was w

  10. So my much loved Caterham R400 was traded in yesterday as a deposit on a new MY18.5 facelifted 350. Had a VX220 in the past so after dancing around ‘Lotus’ I have finally gone official! Hoping the registration process goes quickly and I can pick the car up in a week or so...

  11. Yes shame to see the green shed go, gave us some great cars, don't think it's been mentioned anywhere but in the design studio last week for the anniversary, lotus posted pictures and information on upgrades and purchases they have made so far on new equipment and upgrades to the infrastructure, paint booths, the latest design equipment and lots more , looks like a massive investment already and we all know the requirement drive they are in the middle of at the moment.

  12. I was parked near you briefly outside Asda in Newmarket early on Saturday morning (Metallic Orange Exige Sport 350) & hadn’t seen Signature Orange Cup before in the wild, only the burnt orange car at Bell & Colvill, much prefer yours. I saw some lovely cars at Hethel but do love an orange Lotus! With regards to a GT40 I’m presuming you mean a proper classic one. Classic cars are lovely things to look at but your Cup 380 surely feels just as special to hop into & yet it’s something you can use?

  14. Going on a tangent with Mini, I don't think the problem is selling the cars in the UK or anywhere, I think the problem will be the cost of continental sourced parts, these may/will drive the cost of the production way to high considering the sales price of minis. When it comes to that, British luxury brands will enjoy more protection thanks to their higher prices and de facto higher margins. Back to lotus, I wonder how long it will take to complete the skeleton buildings started and abandoned at the end of the DB era and how long it will take to complete the new buildings. Any idea on th

  16. Thanks for the clarification @agentdr8. I'm going to see if there's anything more I can do this evening without the trim removal tools, and then hopefully I'm free Saturday to finish the job, or at least attempt to get it connected up and drivable again. I'm actually enjoying this!

  19. It's the ambient temperature that drives what a winter tyre 'really is' - below 7 degrees your normal tyre does not perform as well, the compound just does not provide as much grip and you'll get increased wear as a result...Factor in their better water dispersion / resistance to aqua planing and improved 'snow grip'

  23. Yes, I know what you mean. After a fantastic weekend, we all "want to be back next year". I would worry about 'Show Fatigue' if it were every year. I think also organisers would struggle to stage it every year. Could you get Classic Team Lotus, Lotus Bits, a full turn-out of Lotus owners, every year, year on year? Could Lotus Cars afford it? This year, there was no International Lotus Day, and also Lotus 70 incorporated this year's Lotus Festival, so absolutely no excuse whatsoever not to come. But whenever Lotus 7x is ever held again I think it needs again to incorporate that year's Lo

  25. It's not a small undertaking, as the engine/gearbox has to come out to separate them. Also I would seriously consider rebuilding the one you have, rather than putting a scrapper in, as you don't know how long that will last. At the least, open up the dead one to check what has failed. Dave

  28. Well, one should never say never, as sometimes, rarely, a genuinely great idea surfaces, and is then either dropped in the ocean of other ideas, or laid on the shelf as the owner dies under mysterious circumstances, or the idea is swallowed up by a conglomerate of people WHO have an interest in seeing it die out, rather than a success. I Wonder what's the sequence here. Somehow it reminds me of Bibs former Esprit Turbo SE, the Black one with gold stripes, and a truly loud exhaust (read: improved sound, looks and performance), which may have left an unsuspecting 10 year old, that it w

  29. I was quite surprised how much sound deadening the rear seat bottom and back pad provide. Without them, the interior noise is pretty unbearable, especially if you have a loud exhaust like a Plack Looking good so far @Brendonian.

  30. They are within range for a "prototype form" unveil at next year's Geneva if it is to be launched in 2020, fingers crossed. Actually when you think about it the Lotus confidentiality team has done a great job at making a car that is only a year and half away from launch a complete ghost. We haven't seen a single tidbit of anything... No less than impressive.

  33. 2019 is also 25 years since Chris Boardman won the opening stage of the Tour de France on a Lotus Sport 110 bike, so the Owners Register will be planning something to mark that. Personally I think the Brands Hatch style Lotus Festival is great as an annual event, with something special at Hethel every 5 or 10 years to mark the major anniversaries. Whatever we end up doing next year, a chance to gather with fellow enthusiasts and celebrate all things Lotus is going to be fun.

Converted big fan here, thank you so much @Bibs et al, can’t wait for the next TLF event where I will hopefully have time to meet and speak to you guys, there was just so much to see and do last Saturday!

  37. Hi @Kimbers Would you kindly pass on my thanks to your dad, near the end of the day he came and found my friend (Ian) that owns his old Esprit, they chatted about the mods he'd had done. Ian was so in awe that he forgot to ask Mr Kimberly to sign the car for him, a gentle nudge and reminder snapped him out of his daze and the inner wing was signed. Ian has owned the Esprit since 1989 and has spoken many times of his wish to meet your dad and having a photo of him sitting in the car. Michelle my wife messaged him yesterday with some pictures she'd taken, he still hasn't come down from his

  39. Update time. I didn’t cut my original carpets cos the way they are folded would have meant leaving gaps. I didn’t want to pay/wait for Lotus new ones so I got some lightweight carpet from Car Builder Solutions (idea from @GFWilliams ‘s thread) and made my own front and rear base carpets. £15. The carpet is a lot thinner than the old stuff but they do a thicker (but heavier) version so if it’s too noisy I can always upgrade. Then got these from Carmats4u.com: Good, thick carpet with colour-matched leatherette edgings. £40. They only had the short passenger ve

  42. Final instalment, you'll be relieved to hear. From Millau, with time now against me, it was a spirited thrash of 400 miles or so up the Autoroute to my overnight stop in Estissac, to the west of Troyes. The final day still had enough time available to make a slight detour for some obligatory pics at the old Reims-Gueux race circuit before heading to Calais for the Eurotunnel crossing and the run to Hethel. Those of you at the 70th event today wouldn't have had too much difficulty in recognising my car - it was the one with a few isolated pat

  45. Hi Liam, No worries On my mtb hardtail, I use SRAM XX1 11 speed since it came on the market. I am now Building a new bike Again (300 grams lighter and even stiffer), and it will have the XX1 12 speed series (in gold and Black). I managed to source one of 300 Nino Schurter World chanpion series DT Swiss front forks, the Formula R1R special version brakes and then some It will be as good as my present bike, just 27,5" Wheels and frame. I tried 29" wheels and really dislike them They can't steer and accelerate so slow. Don't need that. And it makes the bike top heavy and out of balanc
