  2. I think it’s some kind of 911 but I’m having trouble identifying which one. Can anyone help.

  3. What a superb post. Thanks and fully agree.

  4. Completely agree with this sentiment. Brexit is a polarising issue and often one which stirs strong views, but that should never transcend respect and understanding. Also wish you a happy new year and look forward to a continued open, honest (and a little heated at times no doubt) debate on here. (y)

  5. I think that's a Cayman, but it looks nice enough. I'm more interested in how the white Mercedes across the road gets off his drive?

  6. Thanks for clearing up Jack. The previous posts seemed to suggest they were the same ECU hence me getting confused and my thong twisted! (Uk meaning of the word not Aussie!). The Type 116 ECU was "hacked" by a guy in Holland who created a tuning programme. You send him the ECU, he opens it and installs a safe base map and provides you with a software tool so you can diy tune - it's time consuming but fairly idiot proof (I'm the proof) and most owners use it when the SC their cars. They install the SC etc, then the new base map and hey presto, 145bhp becomes 250! Woof! That ECU like the Exige S1/2 is damn near 20 year old tech though hence being surprised people were referring to 4 cyl old ECUs as the same as the V6 ones in arcitecture, encryption, etc. To refine the tune you connect the ECU to a laptop, start the software and drive and it collects crucial info and refines the tune as you go. Ideally, a pax is looking at the laptop as you drive at different revs until the rev range block goes green to show the software has captured key metrics for that rev range etc. Whole process can take 3-6 hours. The guy who hacked the ECU did all the hard work. Must be 500 cars plus out there using it and all good. As you srated, Komotec, Koldfire, BOE H111etc have all invested huge effort, hours, cost etc in their work and kit to support it. They need to earn a return on that and given the small relative market I applaud them for their efforts and progress and won't begrudge paying the price. It strikes me these days that everyone either wants stuff for nowt, or not much, and has little appreciation for the effort, skill and dedication that goes into what are artisan solutions for a small market. They have made something incredible hard easy with their solutions but the price needs to reflect their full investment and the need to make a return.

  8. I have sound insulation in my GT430 Sport (manual) and whilst easy going on B-roads or on the Autobahn at ‘normal speed’ it is marvellous, especially between 100–150 km/h you realise that aerodynamic is pushed to the extreme with the GT430. Wind noise is less than in a Mercedes coupé. Even on long distance trips across Europe with 800 km across the Alps in one day it is enjoyable easygoing and you will arrive very relaxed. Of course, you can have pleasing outbursts beyond 4.500 rpm with best sounding I have ever heard from a V6. Compared with an Exige 380 or Exige 430, I had driven, it is a lot less roaring and a much smoother glider if you so wish. With sound insulation definitely it is livable very well. After one year of ownership for me it is the most appealing, involving, and entertaining ‘long range weapen’. One day I had direct driving comparison with Ferrari 488, McLaren 720S, and Corvette Z06, all great cars in their own rights but without that very special analog lightweight engineering feeling I like. Get a GT430 - such a package will never come again in our livetime.

  9. Took the roof off today as wife and kids away and ended up taking my favourite route along the B3227 and did close to 120 miles just for fun. After a quick false start and trip to tool station (5th time it’s done that trip) to pick up some safety Torx as all my tool kits had solid ones was a 5 min job to whip it off. I didn’t follow any instructions either being a bloke. Wow is all I can say they come alive with the roof off. The noise in sport is addictive. Absolutely 💖 this car so far - I’ve already done more miles in 1 month than I did in 6 in my GT4 which shows what a great drivers machine they are. Away for a few months now on holidays so won’t get chance to use until March and for the first time ever will miss driving a car.

  10. As per the title had a very interesting drag race the other day..with my other car! For a while I've been interested in what the comparative performance is like, and never driven them side by side. This isn't going to be a comprehensive review of all attributes - just a juvenile side by side pull! So my Exige is a std V6 with 2bular exhaust, SSC intake and vinyl stripes (worth 10bhp). GTR is an 18 car with Y pipe has about 580 bhp. Ran them both from about 40mph to just under the limiter of most german performance cars So before I would have said the GTR would absolutely annihilate the Exige over that speed range, but was interested nonetheless to see how much faster. I was really surprised how the Exige faired - low weight, aerodynamics obviously play a significant role because there was very little in it. Up to about 110 the Exige is side by side - only after that did my GTR inch away. Not scientific by any stretch but given I had never thought of the Exige as a straight line car, I was very positively surprised by how it fairs against what is often considered a giant slayer. From a launch up to 150 the GTR would muller the Exige

  16. Apologies, these are the factual figures, and I may have been quoting older models, so apologies for that.. 2009 GTR - 274 HP/t 2017 GTR - 324 HP/t 2017 Exige 380 cup - 348 HP/t 2017 Exige 350 sport - 311 HP/t As I said, I wouldn't complain if given the keys to a GTR, but when testing several different cars before settling with Lotus, the GTR just didn't feel special in comparison to some others, just my opinion. Im assuming its the same for yourself, as a new Lotus is similar money to the GTR and you chose the Lotus, hence the reason for you being on a Lotus forum. Please don't think I'm taking any thing away from the GTR, its a great car. It just didn't tick every box for me, just my opinion. I believe there is a video of an exige up the trumpet of a GTR going round the 'ring', the exige forces the GTR make mistakes and is all over the track. You can't turn 1750kgs into a small car. Just my opinion, I'm sure there will be more

  18. Yep, the one on the left I straightened but whilst I was doing the other one I stopped and thought there has to be a better way. I hope the ones I have ordered will fit. They were £8 including the boots! The cv joint is standard so hopefully it will work. Here's what I have ordered.slightly different design but the only purpose it to hold the boot and all the grease in, so hopefully it will work. Only the driveshaft angle might be an issue, I will know when I see it and compare.

  22. I run 900/1100 front/rear 3 way nitrons on my V6 S which I find very comfortable on road and fantastic on track. If yours have standard nitron pistons and valving I would go a bit less as Dave says above. From experience I don’t like the standard nitrons piston and valving with higher rates. It’s all personal though. Randy at Hoffmans can provide more advice if you need it. He built mine and having had the normal nitron piston/valving I can say with confidence they are now night and day better than stock after being rebuilt to his spec. Might be worth looking at yours too when you choose springs.

  24. Those flanges get bent if the suspension has been allowed to move too far and the driveshaft limits on the flanges and bends them. For example if someone has disconnected the shock and allowed it all to fall down with the car jacked up. Looks like they made a proper job of it by rotating the shaft so it got bent all around!

  26. Through the Avge Speedcamera stretch at Tolworth. Thought about waving, but unfortunately that would have been just plain embarrassing because I had just picked up a new car for my younger son, who is into "retro" stuff and so I was in a bright red Beetle that requires a bit of "butching" up

  27. I highly doubt it @Steve V8. Mine have all literally looked brand new when they come back. They X-ray them as often the wastegate area suffers with fractures in turbos. IMHO it’s £300ish well spent. If bits of the turbo smash up and go straight in the engine itll get real dear real quick

  30. Thanks for replying Andy. I now have this vision of you with a bricklayers trowel 😂 I am sure Mr Trump will manage to build his wall without you Yes we have had some great meets and runs over the years and I am a bit sad that it might not continue. Even if there are no regular meets organised in the future, anyone is welcome to post up on the forum if they are organising an impromptu run and I am sure a few others would tag along if they knew about it. I really hope a regular venue can be agreed on so the breakfast meets don’t fall by the wayside. Enjoy Mexico! 🇲🇽 and make sure you wear a sombrero to protect you from the 🌞 Kind regards Brian PS Just about to PM everyone again as a gentle reminder for Sunday as no one has added their name to the list yet although @Alfa2Evora and @Al. have said they will be there.

  31. I went to an open-to-all breakfast meet last Sunday - you know the sort, anything from an Austin 7 to an Aventador is welcome. Just as I parked, a Panamera pulled in opposite and the driver virtually leapt from his car and sprinted over to me. Fearing the worst, I tentatively got out to confront this potential assailant. I can't remember his exact words but it was something along the lines of: "I had to catch you before you disappeared in the crowd. That car is I-N-S-A-N-E" pointing at the Evora. "You passed me on the motorway and it was like being overtaken by a jet fighter at take-off. I saw you coming in the mirror but as you went past, the wall of sound was unbelievable. What a beast - absolutely amazing!" There then followed a conversation lasting several minutes, during which time he examined my P&J from every angle and took a load of pics. When we eventually went our separate ways to look at what else was 'on show', his parting words were, "I never realised Lotus produced things like THAT!" Hopefully another future convert from 'the dark side', .

  33. So the S4 manifold and turbo fit well. The Engine is now back in the chassis and the gearbox had a quick once over inspection. Confidence is high. ✌️✌️

  34. The problem with high speed isn't so much when you have the roof off, but more with the soft top on. The soft top will lift at about 120mph ish IIRC. I managed 169mph with the roof off and there was so much wind noise I couldn't hear my 2bular road exhaust!

  35. Dealer told me anything above 90 was dodgy with roof removed as air turbulence over open roof impacted effectiveness of rear spoiler. Took the roof off mine and did a tad more than that at IOM least year and survived , but I do get their logic

  42. Very sad day around my Waters, as a freight train loaded up with trucks full of empty beer bottles flew off the freight train, while crossing our big bridge in the middle of Denmark, because of a serious storm today, and hit a passenger train, killing 6 and injuring 16. Divers are now searching for further parts or persons in the sea, during the night. Biggest accident in 30 years. Life it seems, is very beautiful, but also very fragile. Jacques
