  1. Last corner of Lola fitted, you may think I've been slacking but this corner had been left off purposely for easy access to the engine bay and underneath through the wheelarch. You may notice a bit of a theme going on... Just awaiting engine bay surrounds and trim now, then the fun can begin with mechanicals.

  2. Hey thanks all, I don't actually work at Hethel itself, but where we make the chassis, where I look after the manufacture. There's not much I can say that isn't in the public domain, but I can say the recent significant injection of cash into Lotus is having a positive effect.

  3. That's because I keep taking it apart then putting it back together! I'm taking the suspension apart again next! Although I have almost finished the interior. Just the seats to bolt in and centre consol once I have adjusted the crossgate cable. Seat Rails My advice having done this many times. Don't take them apart! If you want to look in my S1 blog. There's no advantage, just more cost and issues. Clean them in brake cleaner, get rid of all dirt and rust. Spray them, cut the threads again then lubricate to get the threads clean. 8 mm . 6. Let’s leave the politics aside and focus on how we can help make Lotus successful and sell more cars globally and hopefully a lot more in the US. The timing of the acquisition by Geely did not help nor did the whole change of management so what ever plans were in place clearly were shelved by the new entity. They could have done a lot better including having a website that was informative and stated what models are/were coming....but it is what it is....a small car company that was acquired by a GIANT.....I just hope mine gets here by Sept. so I can have a little bit of Lotus fun! 7. But at least I can roll it backwards and forwards now. All that hard work and luverly red gold 'n' chrome now hidden away, only you, me and the MOT inspector will know it's there.

  8. There's another popular Lotus forum for non Lotus discussions. Mods can we keep this one focused on the cars and Lotus company.

  10. I've been there done that, got the t-shirt and all that. My daughters first car, black saxo with vivid pink flames down the sides and of course pink underglow, all dad's work. If I'd realised the effect a 17 year old girl with hot rod would have on the boys from Tesco car park I'd have given her a beige Metro.

  12. I’m surprised this hasn’t sold already, the GT 430 is the best all round car I’ve ever driven, by some margin. Hope the deal can be done and look forward to hearing what you think. Trevor.

  14. As per the mirror thread... A little update, been working on the design in CAD! It's not 100% final yet (although close) as it needs to go through stress tests before I'd sell to any friends. My goal with these is to make them as durable as possible, but at the same time, to reduce the thickness of the design as much as possible. It's a fine balance! The stalks will be made from Aluminium and CNC machined. I've gone for a sleek design which points up slightly which gives the ball joint a bit more movement for adjustment. The threads will be tapped into the base, meaning t

  15. I thought it was about time we added the VX220 to the list of "other" Lotus cars that we have on here. There's quite a number of Lotus members on here who either currently have, or have come from, the VX220 and if we're honest it is more of a Lotus car than some of the more often lauded about "classics". The car was designed and built by Lotus. The engine was actually a Lotus design I believe too. And at the time, the Type 116 was a bloody life saver for Lotus so I do think it is only fair and about time the car got much more appreciation from the general Lotus fraternity. The VX220

  16. Guys, really, hating is too hard.....not sure why anyone would be against Lotus expanding its car lineup and base, appeal, or reach that would fuel other vehicles like the Evora or Exige, Elise or whatever they plan on rolling out next! I hope they do, so they can bring more cars to the masses, be successful and keep building kick “ass” cars! If folks want to troll, let’s get a Troll Lotus topic and have at it! Get off the politics, history lessons and bs! Buy and drive a Lotus anywhere in the world and get the “[email protected]“ off this forum! Enjoy a spirited drive will you!

  17. Just seen this section today Yes, for those who loved the JPS Team Lotus wedges seeing them win in the 70 on TV and have a soft spot for VX / Opel because your first car was a Nova and the family had some sedans of it, well there was a jackpot feeling getting all together in one car. I love it to bits and hopefully my daughter will appreciate it, when I couldn’t get in anymore It will stay the weekender for two. It has a raspy Komotec manifold, Nitrons, upgraded brakes and many other small things. Just this year it has not got any mls. But it will be changed soon

  18. Oh please can we stop the blind nationalistic America is the greatest bullshit. Get a grip man. Nations have been stealing technology from each other for thousands of years. They will do for thousands more. The Chinese and Irish built your railroads that fuelled your industrial revolution for Christ's sake. China was a civilised nation with the greatest technology and culture 2,000 years before America had even seen a white man (and most Europeans were stuck in the iron age). Can we please move on from this crap.

  19. @GFWilliams seems a bit of a bargain personally I expected £300-350 as I know how much time these things can take to CNC... which I can understand the minimum 5x sets to get this going. So put me down for a set and I guess we should get this list started properly. @alias23 @GFWilliams Those who said ‘in’ time to get on the list

  21. Matthew, It looks to be good. The only issue for a street car with this type of setup is that some oil vapor/odor will be present in the engine bay; and as SSC states --- With crankcase gasses breathing to atmosphere, some oil may condense at the top filter and run down the side of the can.

  23. booked on - lets hope the old girl can hack it this year. had to retire early due to a huge coolant leak, thankfully turned out to be a split hose. some of the roads are stunning but the camber and some of the surfaces can be pretty punishing on an old esprit Great event though and very much looking forward to it

  24. Yes those are questionable. The problem is, the service notes gives a really low torque figure for the nut on the end of the ARB, and several people have reported that it comes undone if that figure is used. I have always wound it hard up to the shoulder. Problem with that is it either over-compresses the rubber bushes and damages them or if poly are used there, they are rock solid as they are compressed so much. Maybe the answer is not wind the nut fully up but use threadlock on it. It was a good move to get rid of this whole issue on the later re-design.

  25. I've got poly all round and it gives real confidence on v high speed sweeping curves. However, for the compromise on NVH I'd probably suggest sticking with OEM bushing, if all still available. The one exception would be on the lower links to the arb, which seemed to trash the OEM 'foam' bushes very quickly.

  26. Anti roll bar bushes can creak especially if the bar has been powder coated, or if poly bushes have been fitted which have a rotating inner sleeve they also can. A spray of silicone oil usually cures.

  27. Hopefully this might help with the in-body fixtures. My O/S outer fitting is non standard [or possibly as per S3] because as I found out later my car had a repair section let in to that corner. The N/S has the standard rivnut far as I'm aware. On the pod question, my outboard fittings on either side of the car don't match either, and of course I managed to take photos of the non standard one, but it's still the same method of assembly. As per the diagram a narrowband nut outside, and nylock nut inside, clamp the threaded bar either side of the hole in the fibreglass.

  30. 1. The USA is not the center of the world...Just the DADDY of the world. 2. Lotus direction is to compete with Ferrari likes....FACT (Geely CEO stated it) So cars are will be out of reach for most people in the US and around the world. 3. The ones that drink beer instead of water, tea instead of milk and worry about stats (Premier League) are the Brits. We want to complain because it is our right here to express our points of view and mostly because we have money to burn.

  32. Or, they rejected the lot, were compensated and told to destroy them???. I've no more idea of the reason than you have. Gerald said he was told it was because they leaked air and resulted in huge number of warranty claims. Doesn't detract from the fact that it happened.

  44. Cadwell Park Race Weekend Report! Hi Everyone, This is just a quick one as I wanted to share my quickest lap from last weekend as I feel that I probably did my best lap yet in our Radical SR1, it is a slow process getting on top of these cars but everytime we go out we get a little bit faster which I guess is all I can ask for. My problem is that I love chasing lap time and here I can find reasonable speed now but I go slower in the races for some reason, not ideal I know so just need to treat the races like qualifying. This past weekend at Cadwell Park went pretty w

  45. BBQ FACTS We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity . When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion: (1) The woman buys the food. (2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert. (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand. (4) The woman remains outside th
