  2. My car was in for paint over the weekend getting a few things sorted. First of all was the rear Lotus text. I was fed up of the stickers peeling off and just generally looking a bit rubbish. I decided I would get the Lotus text done in paint, and also that I would use the new Lotus font from their new badge (with a couple of small design tweaks to make it nicer) in yellow. The yellow was laid down first, then the entire black was redone, then a satin lacquer over the top. The job is absolutely top notch, you can't feel the letters at all as it's all flat under the lacquer. Next up

  5. When I got my engine out in 2014 , I portmatched in and outletports. I used the gasket between manifold and head. I Placed the gasket on the head and with a marker I could indicate the opening. and I did the same on the manifold. After that I could take material away until ports in the head, the gasket and the manifold were identical, so portmatched for optimal flow. You'd be surprised how much difference there is on the openings

  9. Well, following soldave's post about this, we took the plunge and completed the rally yesterday. For those who dont know about this, the Fireball Rally is an organisation that arrange various types of motoring holidays in Europe https://www.fireballrally.co.uk We signed up to James Bond's Switzerland one that is an endurance event planning to visit 8 countries in 4 days, totalling 1800 miles!! Many people buy cars specifically for the event, usually under £900 but we chose to take the Esprit. Now, my Esprit has never let me down ever, but the closer the rally got, the more nervous I

  12. That’s better and from memory they should stay on when you switch on the fog lights Not often my contributions have been anything but cosmetic for this project.......this is about as technical as I get

  13. Did you see her looking at Donald Trump. Looked like a spoilt little brat. Don’t worry about her though. I read today Michael Mansfield QC spoke at the Labour party conference and says eating meat needs to become illegal. Excellent idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Once the fame has gone and with the aspergers it would not suprise me if she ends up with a whole bunch of mental health issues and none of todays hangers on to help her through it.

  15. Thanks very much for the replies. The problem may be solved! Here's an update. I made a little wire frame to emulate how the carb lid holds the floats, filled the bowl to 27mm with a syringe and put the floats in the bowl on the wire frame. The floats (7g )sat around 11.5-12mm from top. It looks like to achieve a 27mm fuel level the float gap would need to be set to around 11.5-12mm, which is a long way off the recommended 14.5-15mm. However, I previously tried a 12mm gap several times and got inconsistent fuel levels from 26-28mm, but mostly around 28mm. My conclusion from all this

  16. You say that Fabian.......but why would the fog lights be on without the rear lights being on?

  17. Totally agree Barry. Cant help thinking that there’s an element of brainwashing going on with the school children of today as well. Some of those protesting aren’t mature enough to be able to analyse all of the facts and make their own mind up.

  19. I used to use RS29s on my car. They were developed by Pagid for endurance racing and are an improvement on the RS14 pads. RS14s are what Lotus Motorsports used to fit to their race cars. Because they are more of a track pad, you will find that they squeal a bit until they are warmed up. But I can almost guarantee that you won’t experience any fade with them. Particularly on the road. I can highly recommend them.

  20. Checkout Purbeck Sports cars, they are in Holton Heath, Poole. Jon is Lotus trained, very friendly and works on all things Lotus. He services and MOTs my Evora.

  22. I echo what GF has said above, I use Alcons from Dave and am very happy. Straight swap rotors, retaining your original bells all-round (albeit I upgraded to fully floating on the front). Very convenient.

  23. Brexit is a minor impact - if at all. The Thomas Cook model is outdated - 500 plus shop in an age where most book holidays online and a company saddled by huge long term debt. Ultimately, a company that did not adapt to change.

  24. personally im particular about having the main dealer stamps.. and have avoided certain cars that dont have them.. I wouldnt take the evora anywhere but a decent lotus service centre. i like keeping the service history up to date with a fully stamped book , and would think if i ever came to sell it would be a positive.. but thats just me.. im lucky to a have the excellent chaps at hanger 111 within 30mins , who are very reasonable..£. i like keeping the service history up to date with a fully stamped book , and would think if i ever came to sell it would be a positive.. there

  25. Very sad but a reflection of how the travel industry has changed, plus the effects of Brexit over the past year. My wife is in the travel industry, running her own villa rental agency and this year has been a complete write off. The majority of people now want to book 'direct' through airbnb etc and those that do want the security of using a bonded agent have been scared off making any commitment due to the constant Brexit nonsense and scaremongering in the news. Like many retailers it looks like Thomas Cook have suffered too by being so big in a time of lower income when fixed costs

  26. I have no alternatives in mind, but there must be something out there. Maybe Alcantara? I know that when I get round to redoing my Excel I'm going for 1/2 leather with Alcantara in a similar colour scheme for an updated take on it. I'm fortunate in that if I ever have to do my Esprit interior, I just need to shoot a few teddy bears.

  31. Oh yes, of course they are savvy. Then whinge like fook when it all unravels and their low cost airline doesn't get them there, or home, or when their hotel goes bust etc etc. You bloody read it all the time and stoopid fookers rarely if ever think about insurance. It's all done on the cheap then they expect someone else to pick up the pieces. No excuses for Thomas Cook and in my opinion sod all to do with Brexit. Just a piss poor exec team, poor strategy, and poor execution. As always though its the staff and customers who will feel the pain.

  32. It depends on age of your car at sale time and who you are going to sell to. I'd guess a newbie would want a dealer service record especially for a car less than 4 years old. On the other hand I know my service record is wayyyy above the standard of most dealers and the frequency of basic changes of fluids, discs and pads, as well as adjustments of non service schedule items is way above what Lotus ask for. I would imagine that current Lotus owners would recognise this and pay me an ginormous premium to have their hands on my car.

  33. What if I told you guys my popping could be attributed to a simple ignition misfire? Chain of events otherwise known as "the demise of my ignition system" ECU repaired previously for unknown reason bought and drove 350 miles home just cruising, shooting a flame on the left when on the throttle noticed it was very under powered and popping on the left at idle for 2 weeks before teardown 15mo. later engine is rebuilt and I put maybe 4 miles so far......... during the 3 or 4 mile adventure it started to progressivly misfire badly under any kind of boost only reaching

  34. Hi Years ago i would of said yep, get straight on with, but you have to consider the downside if you ever chose to sell the car as it will dramitacally effect the price of the future sale if you ever chose to part with your beloved Esprit S2 for some reason. It can be done, but you in your post you say you have found a chassis ? Is it a rolling chassis ? As if it is just a bare chassis, nearly all of your suspension from your S2 will not just simply bolt over as the suspension set up on the S2 was different. You would require new front and rear suspension. Used unit

  36. Fallen behind with updates again, but picked the body up and got it back to my workshop today. I'll need a second trip to collect bonnet/bumpers/wing mirrors etc tomorrow but here is what I have now. Very impressed with the work and now terrified at the prospect of having to reassemble it all while never dropping a spanner. Still at least the main body/doors/boot are back without incident. Slightly random collection of pictures from the body shop and finally back home in my workshop.

  38. I've been working hard to secure the first set of Öhlins for the Federal Evora GT. Fed Ex showed up with my Christmas package. Going to sleep a lot better when these are finally on the car. Can't wait to get the car on the 7 post shake rig at OhlinsUSA and see how these perform. Don't worry they will get high speed adjusters before I'm done Nothing like having a little fun at work. I will Dyno them next week when I get back from the track. This is a great place to start improving the Evora.
