  1. Evening folks! So a guy I know from a Jaguar XJ-S forum (apols in advance for cheating!) has sent me through some behind-the-scene on set shots from TSWLM he has which he doesn't think have ever been published - they were from a private collection from a friend of his who used to own the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum. I certainly haven't seen them before, so thought I'd share a few of them as some of you might be interested

  3. A sheared stud is something you are very likely to come across during restorations . Getting them out can be a pain , in a lot of cases leading the the need to Helicoil repair the thread.. When this work is done with an engine still fitted the results are to say the least basic.. This is due to the space constraints. As an engine builder i have seen the results of these, oh dear some are not nice. This does not need to be the case , a little preparation time and a simple DIY jig can make the job so much easier with professional results. The same principal can be used to set

  9. Little did I think that by introducing Ollie to Colin Chapman for a job interview in October 1970 that our paths, families, careers and lives would be so intertwined and so full of challenge, achievement, fun and heartache. Always a totally dedicated and committed 'larger than life' Lotus character, he never stopped championing Colin Chapman and his 'efficiency in all things' DNA, together with promoting Lotus cars and its innovative engineering achievements. RIP my very good and true friend of 50 years from our first working together on a small Jaguar project after finishing our a

  11. I didn't use the esprit much lately and because an old Esprit that doesn't drive is destined to fail, I thought it is better to start using it again, so here we go . Lets start with small neighbourhood blasts , after a proper warm up of course. What always amazes me when driving it , is how quick and nimble it steers in and out of bends on B roads at speeds between 60 and 100km/u And it is such a dramatic shape. I have it for many years now and it keeps me wanting to turn around and look at it when I walk away. Also I keep getting tumbs up. 2020 20200606_133713 by gvygvy,

I always was but having to go work at this time is awful and I know both have had patients die in the last few days from this awful Virus. So big thanks to all Nurses and Doctors, Care staff, people working to keep beds free for those most in need and yes, Administrators who I know are working tirelessly to keep the wheels from falling off. Volunteers giving up their time to drive and clean and everyone who is a private Carer and has to go our to keep someone safe and alive. You are all apprec

  17. Here's the problem with Lotus Cars in general, it's a unique and quirky Brand, one Americans might hear whispers of at a local track day, one that conjures mystery, and also a great deal of jeering. As a Driving Enthusiast (You'll notice I didn't say Journalist), it's much akin to chasing the Holy Grail. Lotus Cars, are held up by the experts as either the standard in driving experience, or disaster in ownership, with very little in between offering something substantial as a baseline. There's something special that occurs when someone is charging a corner, or setting up their entr

  21. After 5 years of hard work and graft my Downton mini fired to life this morning and sounded absolutely amazing, everything has been rebuilt so big smiles. Just lots of loose ends to finish off now like air in brake system, new smiths dual oil/water gauge was defective and leaking from temp bulb preventing running for more than a few seconds. Fit windscreen washer pipes and await a couple bits of trim to be manufactured by newton commercial. A little electrical work to finish like horn and spots then off for a suspension set up and the running it in before rolling road tune L

  22. It makes a lot of sense to have a 'face' and it makes even more sense to base that face on the Evija. Maybe that render isn't a million miles off, Autocar have to get it right one day with their endless attempts Anyway, have a shot of a car at rest. 9,800 in seven months, very sad I didn't manage to crack 10k in six, but oh well. If the travel restrictions are relaxed in time for summer I can easily see 20,000 miles being clocked up in 12 months. Evora at Home by Alex D, on Flickr

I wasn’t allowed to say anything until today, but it's now okay for me to share that I have volunteered for the Covid-19 vaccine trials that a local Hospital are running in partnership with Pfizer. It's important that we all do our part to beat this virus. The vaccine is the one that has been developed in Russia. I received my first dose this morning 06:20 am, and I wanted to let you all know that it’s completely safe, with иo side effects whatsoeveя, and that I feelshκι я чувю себя немного стрно и я думю, что вытл осные уши. чувству себя немго страо.

  25. This pic here may give you a better perspective on getting all the corners in the correct plane .. Although its only when you do an eye level view that you appreciate the full accuracy .. A good indication here is the strip light reflection as it goes from the h/lamp pod to the bonnet .. This shows they are in the same plane ..

  26. Moving on . We now have the damaged section removed at the rear and the rest of the structure solid.. I have shimmed some wooden blocks into place where the new section will sit . This is so it will be in the same plane as the one removed.. Before we can proceed with the body work there is a small section on the chassis that came to light needing addressing.. This is very common and a real pain to do neatly when not fully re - working the whole chassis .. However i do have a very effective and strong way of dealing with it .. The cause is the turbo outlet pipe bu

  27. I have been a lifelong Lotus fan. I almost bought an Elise about 14 years ago. I also nearly bought several Elan’s Back in the 90’s, but I never did pull the trigger. Well this fall I turn 50 and it was time. I picked up a leftover 2018 Evora 400 with about 100 miles on it. I love the orange color so much. I drove the 400 and the GT. I loved them both but the GT didn’t feel $20k+ better to me.

I asked what he wanted to do with the old one and as it was going to go in the bin I asked to keep it . seemed a shame to bin it as it had the lotus logo On the face fast forward now and I came across it in my old toolbox, and , used a scrap piston from a compressor at work to upcycle piston was machined with a flat to stop it rolling and turned out to accommodate the clock. new bezel made to fit Clock assembly and now on the mantelpiece Clock assembly and now on the mantelpiece

  31. Hi, I’ve just bought a mint 2015 Evora S sports racer manual in motorsport green. I’ve come through Peugeot 106 & 306 rallye, S2000 (crashed ), then kids, Megange R26, MX5 mk2, FPace, Panda 4x4, M135i before the Lotus. Some are still in the garage. This Evora brings all the passion and fun back to car ownership I’ve missed since the 306 & S2000 days. It was expensive compared to what else is available for the money, but it is bloody amazing to drive, stunning to look at (I love the green, bright but not too shouty) and really rare. Plus the kids fit in the back! M

UPDATE guys, after 3 attempts the beauty has started after 10 years of sleeping , first two attempts have been wrong as I have stupidly routed the dizzy cables 180°out.... but (thanks again Matt...) routed again in the right way the engine start immediately, what a sound! Perfect oil pressure, no water leaks from pump and pipes, no tappet sound, everything is just perfect, it's a Swiss watch! I have build engine temperature to see if the fans works and reached just below 90 they goes on immediately, I have not calibrated anything on the carbs but they are running very well and

  36. Hi all, newbie here. Bought this car last year from Leven Edinburgh. Believe this was the Lotus demonstrator at Goodwood. Absolutely love the drive. Also have a Turbo which is very fast but clinical in comparison. When you get back in the Lotus, it is a sensory overload - fantastic! Can’t wait until we can get back out for some epic road trips!!!

  41. An Obituary printed in the London Times.... Says it all. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isn't always fair; - And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and re

  43. Well it appears we may have it - just heard a Doctor describe the symptoms and it matches ours 100% - not quite a cold and not quite flu. Carina is suffering a lot more than me, but in reality for us it has not been much more than a very bad cold. Living out in the sticks with lots of land around us and being miserable anti-social buggers all these townies reactions have all come as a bit of surprise to us - Is it really that bad out there? Fortunately we only ever buy in bulk as we hate shopping and are miles from any major shops so we are OK for food for a couple of weeks (standard pr

He has a vast amount of experience with these engines and I for one am glad he posts on here and imparts some of his knowledge, as most experts dont bother. We have come to an understanding If he thinks Im doing a cock up he will tell me. I dont need any more engine failures! Thanks Dave.

It was Soooo good to drive it up to the MoT station, and then have to “go and warm it up properly ”, before the emissions test just a couple of taster pics before I retros
