  1. Hi all, not much progress on the restoration I'm afraid. It's still in storage but I visited it today and put the K699 JCL number plates on. I also received the 1994 Lotus calendar I bought off eBay which has a picture of it inside, I love collecting these bits of history on it. The plan is still to export it to America. I'm now working in California which has strict emissions laws. I will probably have to apply for 'show and display' status that allows people to import rare non US cars. Although Lotus sold Esprits in America in the 90's they had different emissions hardware o

  2. Hi, owned an Excel SE many years ago (great car), then headed off into German and Italian ownership (still have those I must confess) but always kept an eye on the ‘classic’ Lotuses. Bought an Esprit S4s recently and crickey what a car! Very fast and wonderful handling, obviously. Took the car out today and was struck by how usable it is - fired up straight away after too many weeks of inactivity (have a battery conditioner on from previous, other cars, bitter experience..), heater great, visibility fine, relaxing and confidence inspiring drive, then get the engine temp up to release fu

  3. Nothing like a Ferrari to help you appreciate your Lotus. I sold a Lotus Carlton to get into a F355 after buying into the Ferrari mythology. It turned out to be a huge disappointment for me, sold it for an Esprit V8 which was a much better and much faster sports car in every respect. Wouldn’t have another Ferrari but I’m sure the modern ones are a very different proposition. Never liked the 360 styling personally, not even when it was new and it never grew on me. I’d never have signed it off but a lot of people seem to think otherwise, the car was a sales success I believe, quite a few bu

  5. Yes I think between @Seriouslylotus and I there is feedback going back to AiM. However given the comments on this thread I do wonder if a separate thread for owners and product feedback/enhancement requests could be a good idea.

  7. Here’s my new (to me) 410 in Elise Grey with carbon roof and yellow accents It’s my 5th Lotus in a row over the course of 11 years, it’s absolutely bloody fantastic and my favourite car of all. Love it!

  8. I had a deposit down on one. It was canned when the new owners of Lotus (Proton?) discovered it was only developed for certain markets, excluding the USA.

  9. No personal experience, just two anecdotal. Some friends put it in their conservatory but then considered it too expensive to run to use, so just let the conservatory get unusably cold. Other friends had it in a new en-suite and went on about how expensive it was to run...but I don't know if either of those was real in absolute terms or just different value judgments to what I would have made. I did a fair bit of research in 2012 and at that time gas was cheapest, then coal, then oil/calor, then wood, and elec was top of the tree at about 4 times the cost of gas for the same heat.

  12. You’d be so much better off swapping that for say an 09 plate Evora LE in titanium storm and some folding to take to the states

  15. If you want flames - you can add an injector into the exhaust - really don’t start adjusting the v8 timing from where it should be.

  16. As an aside, if you're looking at underfloor heating, a friend of a very good friend owns https://www.thermosphere.com/ and I'm sure I could get some decent discounts for TLFers

  17. Yet another thing where we're all different Andy. We tried 18 for a year. It was OK but a bit too cool for any just sitting activity and visitors felt cold. We upped it through 19 to 20 and finally settled on 21 three years ago. At 21 it is kept very evenly between 20 and 21. It suits my daily uniform of joggers and t-shirt - it'd be too hot in a jumper. Fran feels the cold much more but is comfortable in "normal" clothing (which means more layers than me!). Like many old men I need to get up in the night and its lovely to be able to pad about without freezing my gonads off, I don't ow

  18. I have looked at 360's many times but can't get past the quite fugly front end. Could you stretch to an early 430? They do look better in my humble... I have heard the early cars F1 gearbox is a pig, however a good friend was a 360 manual owner and he loved that car. He used it and apart from servicing/tyres no other major bills in 5 years. The interior lasted well too but the centre console looked cheap iirc. I can't imagine the engine or gearbox is over stressed at all in a 360. Go for it. You only live once and if after a summer you hanker again for a real drivers car sell it

  19. We were a relatively early adopter so things will have changed. There are some great things about a GSHP set up but its certainly worth thinking about very seriously first. The financial argument, in our experience, doesn't stack up so if your looking at it purely as a way of saving money my expectation is that you will be disappointed and spend more than you save. Our costs: We have a relatively large house, but not exceptional at about 360 sqm. To provide enough heat for that we were marginal on being able to generate enough heat from the largest GSHP available in 2012 on a sin

  20. I’m fascinated to see what happens to the existing line up when this new car appears. Will it sit alongside, or will that be the end of all the existing cars? I’m also not sure that playing it safe will convince anyone to buy a Lotus over a Porsche (other than everyone already here).

  22. Isn't that the pipe from the fuel filter which had the loop in it? The loop was there in case of an accident to stop the fuel pipe being pulled out as the engine moved if you were hit (or hit) something hard enough. Without the loop, if the pipe is pulled off you'll have a spray of very high pressure fuel on a very hot engine and manifold/turbo.

  23. Hello all. New here. I got this beauty a couple of months ago. It's getting more and more difficult to not drive it all the time. This was at a Cars and Coffee meet. Photo credit goes to my very talented relative.
