  1. Thinking of making some of these official looking lotus bonnet props. One size may fit all, but who knows. Definitely looks lotusesque £500 each

  2. A new Lotus using the Evija body shape, albeit on the brilliant Evora chassis but also showcasing Lotus engineering innovation; is what i'm hoping for.

  4. For Lotus there are 2 potential markets, the over 100k market equivalent which is where the Esprit used to be and the 50-60k market where you compete with more traditional mass volume brands. In the first category, prices keep going up for the leaders Ferrari and Mclaren as price sensitivity of customers is low (people would rather pay 150-200 for a dream car than 110 for a super good car) To sell cars at more than 100k, the best chances Lotus has are probably electric cars as they would be early there and can be differentiated. Having the Evija has a halo car makes sense for that and it would be new customers. for the 50-60k segment, they need so be able to have the volumes and to make good margins at those prices. I am pretty sure the investment in the factory is to make this possible but they will need have the network too. Probably feasible selling 10k car a year (basically 10x the current Elise volumes and what was about the peak volume for the Elise ever) In my opinion, like Volvo, they have to do things differently from what is out there rather than just better as better will always be too difficult to judge.

  8. You’re missing part of the point. There was no Lexus brand. It was Toyota. Should Lotus attempt to go upmarket by creating a new brand, such as Loxus or something? The LS400 was a copy of another company’s product. I hope Lotus doesn’t just make another Cayman or 911. I want to see a new Lotus.

  10. Not sure the McLaren F1 is a good example. There was a 19 year gap between the launch of that road car and their next one (MP4-12C). Still at the current pace of brand new model launches at Hethel, you never know! By the way, the original Lexus was always the poor man’s Merc. Still is for me. Don’t forget that back then the Japanese were trying to hoodwink American buyers into buying their cars primarily by changing/adding new brand names from Toyota, Nissan and Honda to something a bit less Japanesey and more upmarket sounding.

  11. Been ages since we had a special edition! Never had a problem with them myself, never understood why it became 'a thing' online to moan about them. My Elise Sportsracer was a fantastic car and I'd happily find another. Elise RGB was a corker too! Might have to start a thread on great special editions just to wind up the playground!

  13. While I was digging up information for the rebuild on the car I’m still unsure where I will end up with the transmission. I’m hoping the current UN1 box will hold up for 12 months until I can comfortably afford a good rebuild on it with the strengthened parts as with the unexpected bills on the engine rebuild its pushed me well over budget at the current time. Ssshhhhhhhhhh with the UN1 mentioned as a bit of a weakness (although there isn’t many cases of knackered transmissions) I did hear rumblings regarding the Porsche conversion. i messaged Kennedy engineering who confirm they have a kit available to fit the boxster 987 S gearbox to the lotus v8 engine. The kit comes with bell housing, flywheel to,suit the lotus starter, pilot bearing and bolts at around $1800 and a performance clutch kit is around $850 to suit obviously the Boxster gearbox is not really made for huge amounts of torque and the kit does not include the custom items you would need to have such as driveshafts and gearbox mounts but I reckon they could be made for around $1000. I think you would also need the gear tick and cables etc. looking at it I think it would probably work out not far off the UN1 upgrade costs so is an option to consider in the future depending on feedback from the first couple of conversions. my main concern is that the few boxes listed on sites like eBay show a few gearboxes for spares........with blown 2nd gears!!!! Sound familiar 😂 just thought I would let you all know

  14. As long as it has rubber on either side, it will tend to grip the GRP and the tab. If it’s a welly boot, then one side will probably be fabric.

  15. Got the engine bolted up today, didn’t realise I had to take the lower suspension arms out to get the gearbox bolts in 😂. i am following the workshop manual in reverse and all going ok. Glad Mike S labelled the loom plugs up. Big thanks to Cweeden and Barry for the pictures when i keep getting stuck, really appreciate it quick clean up of the clutch slave bracket and mount as vapour blasters is now on lockdown. found that my new tanks haven’t actually been connected and nearly threw 20litres of super over the car 🙈. hopefully tomorrow will see the car about ready to go. Just waiting for the ECU and some other missing parts before I can turn her over for the first time in 2 years ...... new fuel filter fitted while I was in there

  18. Every Lotus worthy of the badge is a Chapman Edition but it's a great idea actually. CUP acronym should be officially adopted instantly. 👍👍👍 Have changed the like icon accordingly! Essex Esprit must be the king of all special editions. Nothing's going to top that. Definitely not helping me understand why some get so irritated by special editions. Huge fan of all the cars mentioned so far. This still looks 'just so', would love one. Supercharged 2ZZGE motor too.

  19. Agreed re Ltd Ed vs Special Ed. I was teasing with 340R. LF1 is stunning, spec-wise. Essex Esprit I adore. I have always thought Lotus miss a trick: they should do a run-out model 'Chapman Edition' as each model ends. Imagine last S1 Elise Chapman Edition....final Europa type 74 Chapman Edition.....G Esprit Turbo Chapman E....Evora CE...all a bit more hard-core with repeating special features (colours, trim, graphics...and a presentation box with a flat cap ...whoops, getting carried away). Or CUP becomes Chapman Ultimate Performance. Justin

  20. Ok, that one got me thinking. That would be pretty cool. Technically could be quite straightforward to have a series of S1 Elise and S1 exige on the current car base as chassis is almost unchanged. it feels like it could be quite easy homologation. Considering what other brands have done, that would be quite cool. Maybe a continuation esprit on en Evora chassis would work as well?

  21. Supposed to be special editions in the tradition of paint jobs and other tarting up items as opposed to special models or limited editions, even though most of the special editions were limited! Getting complicated this isn't it? I don't think Cup cars should be included nor cars like the Esprit Sport 300. That was a bit more special than your average special edition. Exige LF1 was a good shout. Really nice inside and out. How about Exige Scura? That was mega. Always loved the British GT special. Best Exige paint job the factory ever did?

  22. Is a Sport 300 a special edition? If not, love the idea and execution of the LF1's in recent times and previously the RGB special editions.

  23. They are set up to understeer from factory as they deem it’s safer for the driver. A quick geo will change that. i had a 350 and now a 430 and at no point over a combined 14k miles or 8 track days have I ever felt the car wasn’t balance. dont agree on the post 6k comments, for me at least, if anything I feel it would benefit from revving a bit higher. Those who have put better air filters on have commented on the car feeling much freer. LSD would be nice, bigger fuel tank doesn’t bother me. Drive one, it will blow your mind given your previous car list.

  24. Hi everyone! Managed to clean up the handle, and attach it back to the door prior to putting the door card, thanks to your advice. All good Now, I'm not sure I have the courage to do the second one... Cheers, Bernard

  27. First little customisation. Decided I'd see what the end plates looked like in black to match the other aero. But I didn't want to completely cover up the lovely carbon so decided to do them on the outer face only with a nice neat line down the middle. As always time taken masking accurately pays dividends and I'm pleased with the results 😁

  28. I discovered the steering wheel was missing two 3mm x 45mm roll pins which release the indicators. For the first time in my ownership (25+ years) the indicators now self-cancel. 😃

  29. I spend a lot of my life on motorbikes 12 months a year and for many years suffered from having to layer up to avoid the cold. I use one of these now which is a god send. I never put Winter linings in my gear now just have an thin armoured waterproof jacket, this and a t-shirt. soo much more comfortable. The seat pads work on the same principle, carbon fibre elements which take very little power to heat up. My jacket has a 10amp fuse and its never blown. On high it would broil you after an hour!

  31. Then add lightness. And if that's not enough, it appears to made of natural ressource materials with as little fabrication as possible. I think even they young Greta might approve this one despite her radical political views. It could possibly even serve other functions in and around the premisses. Only I don't know which? Jacques

  38. Update. The company that made the digital dash for the tellie programme, is planning to distribute through SJ Sportscars, assuming demand. So, were anyone interested, they should let Steve know so that they can see if the numbers make it viable. For some reason, I've had to go into full secret squirrel mode to find all this out, so please pass the word, if you're aware of anyone that might be interested. If you like a half pint, this won't be for you, natch. I haven't checked, but theoretically a submarine mode could be added, but you'd have to add you're own button. Brillopads

  42. Hi, I thought I'd spend some time showing some of the work that goes into the manifolds we make! The plan is to update the thread through the course of our latest group buy batch production. The first stage shows the 321 tube being cut into differing lengths to then be bent on our CNC mandrel benders. We use 321 Stainless Steel as it is much stronger (it's got a bit of Titanium in it) than the more conventionally used 304. Doing this ensures that the manifold won't crack like the cast items so often do. A lot of time has been spent to ensure the equal length of the runners from each cylinder to the point where they meet the turbo. Because we can bend on site we can make the manifolds with as few welds as possible. Being mandrel bent the pipework does not get squashed or get deformed in anyway so the diameter remains consistent throughout the bend. These machines exert a massive amount pressure both to clamp the part and to actually bend it. https://business.facebook.com/AlunoxAdvancedTubeEngineering/videos/520048195349078/ I'll share some more info later this week! Thanks!

  45. Must see, must have... Apart from weight being told with full tanks, this is a very well made presentation of a true superb sportscar. possibly one amongst the very top 5. It's not about having more than 1400 Hp or along the lines of that. It's about the Whole package, the looks, the lines, the dynamics, the performance, the balance, the aarrhhhh, wish they were affordable. Finally Henry makes a nice Esprit video, rather than the endless line of Chaos cars from germany. Well done Henry!!! Salutes to you for the video, your recording team and last, but not least, the Lotus Esprit Sport300 ! Kind regards, Jacques

  46. Came across my old SLR camera during Christmas and took a few shots of the esprit with the new tire decals. Captures the stance of the Esprit nicely. Can’t wait to get rid of the black ducts when the car goes for a respray in 2019. White body and black satin bumpers, period correct. Happy Holiday and a great start into the New Year to you all!
