  1. Thinking of making some of these official looking lotus bonnet props. One size may fit all, but who knows. Definitely looks lotusesque £500 each

  4. For Lotus there are 2 potential markets, the over 100k market equivalent which is where the Esprit used to be and the 50-60k market where you compete with more traditional mass volume brands. In the first category, prices keep going up for the leaders Ferrari and Mclaren as price sensitivity of customers is low (people would rather pay 150-200 for a dream car than 110 for a super good car) To sell cars at more than 100k, the best chances Lotus has are probably electric cars as they would be early there and can be differentiated. Having the Evija has a halo car makes sense for that an

  8. You’re missing part of the point. There was no Lexus brand. It was Toyota. Should Lotus attempt to go upmarket by creating a new brand, such as Loxus or something? The LS400 was a copy of another company’s product. I hope Lotus doesn’t just make another Cayman or 911. I want to see a new Lotus.

  10. Not sure the McLaren F1 is a good example. There was a 19 year gap between the launch of that road car and their next one (MP4-12C). Still at the current pace of brand new model launches at Hethel, you never know! By the way, the original Lexus was always the poor man’s Merc. Still is for me. Don’t forget that back then the Japanese were trying to hoodwink American buyers into buying their cars primarily by changing/adding new brand names from Toyota, Nissan and Honda to something a bit less Japanesey and more upmarket sounding.

  11. Been ages since we had a special edition! Never had a problem with them myself, never understood why it became 'a thing' online to moan about them. My Elise Sportsracer was a fantastic car and I'd happily find another. Elise RGB was a corker too! Might have to start a thread on great special editions just to wind up the playground!

  14. Got the engine bolted up today, didn’t realise I had to take the lower suspension arms out to get the gearbox bolts in 😂. i am following the workshop manual in reverse and all going ok. Glad Mike S labelled the loom plugs up. Big thanks to Cweeden and Barry for the pictures when i keep getting stuck, really appreciate it quick clean up of the clutch slave bracket and mount as vapour blasters is now on lockdown. found that my new tanks haven’t actually been connected and nearly threw 20litres of super over the car 🙈. hopefully tomorrow will see the car about ready to go.

  16. Agreed re Ltd Ed vs Special Ed. I was teasing with 340R. LF1 is stunning, spec-wise. Essex Esprit I adore. I have always thought Lotus miss a trick: they should do a run-out model 'Chapman Edition' as each model ends. Imagine last S1 Elise Chapman Edition....final Europa type 74 Chapman Edition.....G Esprit Turbo Chapman E....Evora CE...all a bit more hard-core with repeating special features (colours, trim, graphics...and a presentation box with a flat cap ...whoops, getting carried away). Or CUP becomes Chapman Ultimate Performance. Justin

  17. Ok, that one got me thinking. That would be pretty cool. Technically could be quite straightforward to have a series of S1 Elise and S1 exige on the current car base as chassis is almost unchanged. it feels like it could be quite easy homologation. Considering what other brands have done, that would be quite cool. Maybe a continuation esprit on en Evora chassis would work as well?

  18. Supposed to be special editions in the tradition of paint jobs and other tarting up items as opposed to special models or limited editions, even though most of the special editions were limited! Getting complicated this isn't it? I don't think Cup cars should be included nor cars like the Esprit Sport 300. That was a bit more special than your average special edition. Exige LF1 was a good shout. Really nice inside and out. How about Exige Scura? That was mega. Always loved the British GT special. Best Exige paint job the factory ever did?

  19. Is a Sport 300 a special edition? If not, love the idea and execution of the LF1's in recent times and previously the RGB special editions.

  21. They are set up to understeer from factory as they deem it’s safer for the driver. A quick geo will change that. i had a 350 and now a 430 and at no point over a combined 14k miles or 8 track days have I ever felt the car wasn’t balance. dont agree on the post 6k comments, for me at least, if anything I feel it would benefit from revving a bit higher. Those who have put better air filters on have commented on the car feeling much freer. LSD would be nice, bigger fuel tank doesn’t bother me. Drive one, it will blow your mind given your previous car list.

  35. Okay guys, here's the moment you've been waiting for! It's all fitted... First of all I wanted to change a couple of aesthetics inline with my car's colour scheme and also to make it a little more individual. To that end I've sprayed the upright brackets gunmetal and also sprayed the mount bases matt black as it matches in better with the plastics on my car. Other than that, it's standard for now 🤔 Fitting was straightforward, the SSC instruction booklet is pretty comprehensive, the only things it omits is what washers to use where. It's pretty obvious in the end but there you go. As

  36. Not a chance IMHO. The customer you mention is not sufficient in number to sustain the company, and the margin in a 60-80K hand built car will be too little without massive volume.

  37. Finally got her on all fours 😂😂😂 need the engine behind the car to lift it in but Sod’s law its the wrong way round so having to push the car down the drive to get the engine past and then push her back up and hopefully load the engine in the car Really wanted the 97 style spoiler which my car has when I purchased the car.......but now I really like the look without, makes the car look so low and wide (and that’s without the engine in). If it didn’t have the holes in the car I think I would have left it off

  40. I decided to get the car up on the lift this weekend and take proper stock of what Ive got. Things didnt go so well as I was shuffling cars around, having parked the Lotus on the road I went to move it into the garage and on the lift - but it wouldnt start - not a thing, not even a click. Luckily my wife came home at that point so she got to steer as I pushed the car into the garage and onto the lift. I had a quick peer around underneath first, having figured out where I could place lifting pads on the chassis. What I found was mostly expected. One of the rear seatbelt mount plates is ver

  42. Must see, must have... Apart from weight being told with full tanks, this is a very well made presentation of a true superb sportscar. possibly one amongst the very top 5. It's not about having more than 1400 Hp or along the lines of that. It's about the Whole package, the looks, the lines, the dynamics, the performance, the balance, the aarrhhhh, wish they were affordable. Finally Henry makes a nice Esprit video, rather than the endless line of Chaos cars from germany. Well done Henry!!! Salutes to you for the video, your recording team and last, but not least, the Lo

  44. So long story but in the mid 90s I was doing a project for Lotus and they offered to pay in cars (I kid you not). At first I rejected the idea; I had a small startup and needed the cash. I finally decided to do it and took delivery of two S4s Esprits. I sold one immediately (yellow one) and kept this red one for a while; it was the last S4s built. I never titled it and finally sold it to help fund my small company. Far and away it was my favorite of the Esprits I have owned. My favorite body styles were the S4s, the 97 V8 and the Sport 350 (we didn't get the Sport 300 over here...). Her
