  3. Thank you everybody for your really kind words and all your help in "reuniting" me with my beautiful yellow S1. Anthony Bentley and I have exchanged many emails and photos in just a very short time.......it is as if I have known him for years.......lovely bloke........A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU ALL !!! Yes LOTUSMAN 33.......I lived in Norwich, and Lotus was just up the road at Hethel. I joined in the late 60's and spent many happy years there. There was a constant buzz of optimism and everybody shared in the fantastic success that Lotus achieved, and, being open plan offices with the factory floor next door in full view, EVERYONE was involved. It wasn't work at all.....it was paradise. Colin's wife Hazel often popped in with the young Clive Chapman as well....One big happy family !! EVERYBODY, from "Chunky" ( Colin Chapman ) downwards , and ALL the drivers were totally approachable and friendly. I was lucky enough to meet Elio de Angelis,Emerson Fittipaldi,Graham Hill, Ronnie Peterson,Reine Wisell, and the GREAT GREAT Jochen Rindt, both at "work" AND socially. They certainly were the Swinging Sixties..............Fabulous firm to work for, success galore, girls in miniskirts, what more could a young bloke ask for ?................. I will treasure those days for the rest of my life. The highlight of TEAM LOTUS was the Lotus 49..........It changed formula 1 forever in my opinion.......so many new ideas from Chunky and Maurice Philippe. Running a VERY close second was the Lotus 72 with it's beautiful black and gold livery. John Players certainly started something when they sponsored these two cars. Once again, thanks to everybody for making an old man VERY VERY Happy........I have been married for over 30 years with 2 beautiful daughters and they all say that they have never seen me smile so much......that's thanks to you guys......The Lotus spirit lives on. 5. Have to say the full carpet set even though its extra weight is definitely worth its weight in improving the aesthetics and feel of the overall interior coming together with the alcantara and carbon fibre elements 👌

  6. I haven't posted on The Lotus Forums in quite a while, so here's an update from me: I got my Lotus back in March, before all this virus stuff really started affecting our way of life over here in the states. The week I got it, I took it to a reputable detail shop and got the roof, A-pillars, and carbon fiber cutouts in the rear bumper wrapped in PPF - those were the only critical areas that I felt should have been done from the factory but weren't. I ended up springing for the Ti exhaust and the carbon pack for that maximum 71lb weight savings. And I too feel that weight savings are negated when an overweight person drives the car anyway 😅 So congrats @Loquacious Lew on the 70lbs! Before this virus hit I was down 90lbs myself - now I'm just trying not to gain any back with my gym being closed.

  7. So around 8 years ago, I changed a tacho on a mates Eclat. I asked what he wanted to do with the old one and as it was going to go in the bin I asked to keep it . seemed a shame to bin it as it had the lotus logo On the face fast forward now and I came across it in my old toolbox, and , used a scrap piston from a compressor at work to upcycle piston was machined with a flat to stop it rolling and turned out to accommodate the clock. new bezel made to fit Clock assembly and now on the mantelpiece Clock assembly and now on the mantelpiece

  8. NA has that key Lotus ingredient; performance through lightweight. Which means you really have to rag it to get the best from it. Hearing the engine squeal in 4th gear approaching 130mph is one of life's great pleasures. Roll on return to the 'bahns. Justin

  9. Afternoon folks! I made this little film on the Esprit S1 for a virtual Facebook car show this weekend and thought some of you might be interested in seeing it too. I sent it to MJK before posting and he gave it his blessing, which was quite the honour! Hope you enjoy 😀 https://www.facebook.com/946762452108638/posts/2876797425771788/

  11. I had the same dilemma late last year although I was going from a S2111s. As above nothing much in it performance wise and the cups aero is subjective. I had set myself a budget and I was going to spend that regardless. It came down to a 220 with lots of extras and carbon, or a cup with not so much in the way of extras and no carbon at all. I went with the cup in the end that was my choice but it’s a very fine line. All this started last October, the sodding thing is currently locked inside Hethel waiting for the world to start turning again, desperate to get my hands on it before the end of Summer and currently looking for “CV19LOT” number plate🤣 It exists https://dvlaregistrations.dvla.gov.uk/buy.html?plate=CV19 LOT&price=399 😆

  12. Well over 50 here and bought a Cup. Go for it you will not be disappointed and if you get a Sport 220 and a Cup goes the other way you will always think "I should have bought a Cup".

  14. Dunno. These are shagged though - although I’m sure could be repaired with some of those soldering rods you can buy. however - I like shiney new things - so stainless it is. My local source had none sadly in the spares stock - so I’ve grabbed some from a supplier and parted with the princely sum of £46. It’s now in a heap at my the chap whom fettles stuff like this for me to form the ends. Hopefully he can do them later tonight - as I’m fed up😂 on the plus side - that’s £250 saved - down side - stainless is a bit heavier than ally - so a mental note to take a dump before every drive 👍

  16. @Colin P - I have to agree with you. As you say London clearly does pay it's way - and the ONS figures identify it subsidies the rest of the UK. Clearly it needs considerable more money for Public transport - because it is so densely populated (Manchester has a population of 2.7m whereas London is over 8.9m). Not only that but a considerable number of people travel from quite far outside of London to work, and when they get to a mainline station they the use TfL facilities. For example I know people who travel down from near Norfolk and Wales. There's no one that I know who lives in London but travels the other way. to work in those places and therefore put an increased burden on their Public Transport system Because of the density, there is limited facilities for private transport - and indeed travelling by car is not only is a lengthy process - its actively discouraged. Clearly, people have a choice - and for those who live outside London and, according to the ONS are effectively subsidised by Londoners, I think it absurd that they complain about it. As you suggest, if they don't like it they could move to London, pay the extortionate property prices, put up with the noise and the pollution and very high costs of living. I'm not knocking anyone whop doesn't want to live in London and put up with these things - and there are clearly some benefits from living in London. However, whatever choice you make there is a 'quid pro quo'. Those who I am exasperated with are the ones (who are a very small minority) who appear tom have some form of 'chip' on their shoulder and, when London gets money (that not only does it need, but actually deserves considering the surplus it creates) resort to childish whining saying it's unfair and suggest it shouldn't be given - failing to explain how the economic benefit would be greater if that money was spent elsewhere. It should also be pointed out that the bus services out of London have received £400m and were receiving an Operators Grant of £251m - so its not as though they've received no money at all. Clearly, if it were more efficient, and would create better economic sense, to use the money that TfL got for other places then I'm sure the Government would have done so. But at the end of the day, not only is the use of private transport much more easier in those places - they don''t create the wealth for the County as a whole that London does. As you say, those who appear to be so 'jealous' and don't want to 'miss-out' on the money that TfL getting are welcome to move here - but they certainly shouldn't consider it's all 'pro's' and no 'cons'. At the end of the day I hope the Country can try and pull together to beat this pandemic (and the economic crisis that exists and will no doubt last longer). The Government has limited funds - and therefore will have to spend them the way that provides the most benefit to the country as a whole. I've seen no evidence to suggest its not doing that.

  17. We offer an ECU package which will take the 250 to around 290-300. This requires an exhaust swap to a 4-1 manifold. The only changes are the ECU and lambda sensor with our kit. Benefits to our system is you have full flexibility, something you aren't happy with on the map you can change it, you prefer a different traction set up you can change it. Plus it is still compatible with the AIM dash and Ecumaster ADU amongst others if you wished to install one of them as well.

  18. Sorry but if people think that London doesn’t pay its way then I’m not sure there is much to be said. If you think it’s so great I suggest you move here. We exchanged on Friday, finally moving away. Not as far as I’d like, but away nonetheless. Let someone else put up with living there and fund the country.

  20. FAO Anthony Bentley Dear Sir, I once owned this car back in the mid 80's and I am now in my 70's. I bought the car from Richard Scargill who lived in West Yorkshire and only have a very poor photocopy from an article published in LOTUS WORLD.....and of course a few trophies which Richard gave me which he won between 1979 and 1984 including several Concours events, including Goodwood and the Sheffield motor show. I accidently came across the article below on my laptop, and it brought back so many brilliant memories of this fantastic show- winning car. I was delighted to see that MY CAR featured in the Classics Monthly magazine, not only on the front page, but also a full length feature inside. May I ask you if you know if it is possible to get a copy or photocopy (anything) of this please. I later sold the car and bought a 1983/83 Red Lotus Esprit turbo, but my beautiful yellow Esprit holds a special place in my heart. I am an ex Lotus employee from the late 1960's to early 1970's, and have really fond memories of working with "Chunky", Tony Rudd,Dennis Austin,Roger Putnam, Tim Enright,etc........and also visits from the Formula One drivers including Graham Hill, etc. LOTUS were kings! Please forgive me for contacting you out of the blue, but this article has really made me so happy, and I went on to the Lotus Forum and somebody was kind enough to reply to me and gave me your details. Yours sincerely Nigel Gooda

  21. Hi Nigel, Yes I am still in possession of PNM132R, still largely original (45,000 miles) and driving beautifully. I do believe there is a picture of you I discovered standing next to her, with a trophy sporting a snazzy JPS shirt. You can call me on the number you mention as it goes through to my mobile. Best Regards Anthony

I intend using this to advise LEGS members where our monthly breakfast meets are. This will not replace the Forum posts or the PM’s I send out. Some of you are not receiving email notifications so I thought the WhatsApp group would improve communication with LEGS members. Brian

  25. Hi all, After a long decision making process I've finally decided that I'm going to purchase a new Elise! I can just about afford the 220 sport, though I wanted to know if it's worth stretching to (or maybe considering) a used 250 cup? I can't seem to find anywhere what the actual differences are between the two cars (engine wise) What changes between the two models to give the extra power, and most importantly - does the cup have a higher redline? Max power is at 7200 according to lotus compared to 6800 for the sport 220. I do love a high redline so this is the main point of interest for me! Please let me know if you have any info on this - thanks!

  27. Up date finally changed the tank to a Moroso unit and has what I call a proper cap and run up to temperature with fans on and off and now all good level steady Did make a separate bracket but to be honest doesn't really need it just a bit of belt and braces.Have since noticed the original Denso cap has the sealing O Ring lower down on the cap by a few millimetres compared to the replacement caps I purchased so may explain why I had to screw the caps on past the normal stop.

  29. I thought it was Starmer who was head of the DPP when they investigated the failings over the many years that this had happened - and found that the CPS were at fault. I also believe he was the one who said that people who know about such matters - but fail to raise them - should also be held to account. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/nov/04/child-abuse-keir-starmer-prosecute-professionals Indeed - Paul Gambaccini has issues with Starmer because of the investigations made, following false allegation, carried out when Starmer was head of the CPS - so it seems you're dammed if you do; dammed if you don't - and I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8211355/BBC-DJ-demands-Keir-Starmer-apologise-role-historic-sex-abuse-scandal.html In any event - the failure to investigate properly went over many years - with various different Governments and DPP's in place.

  38. Back in the garage, and now tackling one of my all-time favourite procedures, shimming the valve clearances. Getting this one right is the ticket to a smooth running engine. Get it wrong, and and it’ll be a rough runner. Get it badly wrong, and it’s game over. I have a few spare shims from the previous C-service I carried out, but with the work that’s been carried out on the cylinder head, I suspected they were never going to be sufficient for the task. Thankfully, those nice people at Connaught Competition Engines have boxes and boxes of all different sized shims, and offered to lend me the one in the ranges I wanted, so I don’t have to order any up. The downside to this was not all shims were in the right place in the box, so I did have to spend time measuring them up with a micrometer before I started. Last time around, the inlet valves were all within specification, the exhausts weren’t, but as I said, the head work meant those went out of the window. As I had to start from first principles, I first used identical shims for all the valves to get a baseline, and checked the clearances to determine the required shim thickness. The inlets worked out fine, however the exhausts proved a bit more difficult to get right. This wasn’t helped by me putting an incorrectly sized shim in when the magic marker I’d used wiped off it, which prompted some choice language! I’ve now got to a point where I’m happy with the clearances, though. I prefer to take them to the lower end of the specification, which has proved to be the best solution for my needs. I should finish the cam housings off tomorrow, so can continue with the sprocket change.

Our school has been delivering online learning from the beginning and EVERY child in the school has had a phone call every week to check on them. There are some teachers who take their responsibility seriously!

  45. My day was made bit happier and more hopeful because Trump's choice for Wisconsin's Supreme Court, a swing state in the US elections, was dismissed by the Cheese Head electorate who voted in large numbers for a more sensible and neutral jurist to their state bench. This is important because it bears on how legal rulings and choices will be made going forward in that state which may have an impact on how decisions will be made as regards electoral procedures in that state. The Republicans generally try to repress the vote in places where they have a numbers disadvantage. This is not kosher in a democracy and it is good that it appears Trump's crony was rejected in this critical state. That made me hopeful and in these days, hope and happiness are inextricably intertwined.
