5. I'll definitively be there. Although the 'Hereford and Worcester' county was abolished in 1998, for the sake of local Lotus geography, I'd vote that this thread be renamed 'Inaugural TLF Hereford and Worcester Meet' As @Barrykearley said, there's a good few Esprits round these ways, would be great to meet up! The Marches do extend down to Monmouthshire, maybe we could encourage @dr_jayhart's dry sump to attend as well?

 6. This was quite interesting to see how the investment has been been focused on automation and production facility . I believe this is the key to make the product of a more consistent quality whilst being cheaper. Ferrari has homeboy through this 20 years ago and with Volvo/geely expertise there is a good chance this will be done. it makes more sense to me now that they stop the production of all the models in one go as they haven’t been developed around the same industrial process. Crunching numbers quickly, they need to go to 5000 sports car a year to make expected returns on investment. That means that not only the car need to be good and reasonably prices but their marketing and dealers will need to do a good job. Also means that they will need a few variants (we already know there are 2 engines) there will be a convertible version but I now wonder if they will also squeeze a +2. When they did show the pictures of three cars under hood, I thought this was a 131 and then some more but now I feel like this is going to be 3 variants including different sizes. Alpine messed that up of not having other variants to capitalise on their good first year and now they don’t sell anything. i am getting more excited despite having already too many cars!

 7. Yeah, Holden's. Aware of them, but likewise, with organised organised meets. So, proposal: - Sunday 16th May 2021 - 1000hrs - Coco's Car, Fromes Hill, Ledbury, HR8 1HT (not actually in Ledders, on a hill above it) The 16th isn't an F1 weekend, and it's the day before things go crazy-back-to-new-normal-ish. So, maybe a good window to test out a bit of a meet. If somebody can please second this proposal (so I'm not there all on my lonesome, which I can just as well do in my garage), we can go firm and pass the word. Coolio.

 8. The Evora has ceased production so the pool of available cars is going to get no bigger. Those who have driven the car know how brilliant and beautiful it is. It has effectively achieved classic / cult status. I can only see prices going up depending on condition. The type 131 won't be released until 2022, I can only see demand for existing cars increasing. If you are thinking of buying an Evora I would suggest getting on board while you can. Will the price take a dip when the 131 is released? Maybe, but not by much as I think the status has already been achieved. There will probably be a ceiling to the price as people will then start to look at other exotic cars but this car will surely have put that cachet to the name Lotus.

 10. Yes, when I measured and shimmed them they were all spot on. I checked and double checked, I have a lot of practice at this now! The tappets were noisy only on the rear of the engine. I took it apart and found the clearances on the end two had increased, but from memory only about 1 thou. Maybe because everything is new it had bedded in after 700 miles. Anyway I put thicker shims in and its perfect, no tappet noise.

 11. I’ve always found Wives don’t need to know about car parts and their costs. Parcels turning up in the post are always cheap stuff off eBay. And it’s good to be vague about the costs of new car purchases. They really don’t need to trouble themselves.

 19. Was good to meet you at Blyton today Carl. Hope you enjoyed your first time out in the Evora - you seemed to get plenty of track time in. I've only been to Blyton once in an Evora, but have taken them to a few other circuits and I do think a bigger circuit suits them more. Nigel (with the blue S1 Elise)

 22. Having a bit of a garage clear out and I came across this Lotus EMM Engine Management & Fuel Injection Manual for the V8 @Bibs can this uploaded for forum members to use ? If not its free for any paid up TLF member. Otherwise I will put it on the classifieds for £25.00 (so a good incentive to join TLF as a paid up member ) Dragan

 24. If the 131 doesnt have a +2 version, then this would be the last ICE +2 lotus so makes it pretty rare and difficult to replace. As you said not that much out there so that should keep price up, on the other end depreciation still happens for the 4xx so not sure where it lands but I am struggling to see how a 400 would bottom below 40k and that is already not far so doesn’t seem much risk. for the GT410, that should be a bit higher but it is not much more car than a 400 so I am not sure what the current stock will go for. probably a case of if you get one as you want it, you should just buy it as it may not come back. I missed twice on my ideal Esprit and now I have clearly missed the boat.

 25. That carpet is gorgeous but my mechanics' creeper wheels wouldn't roll worth a damn on it. When just built I prep'd the recently poured concrete of mine with sulfamic (IIRC) acid solution, rinsed and dried utterly then finished with 2k epoxy from the building supplies store. Truly tough, smooth, well stuck and non-slip despite no additives. Before banishment for the greater cause of Esprit renewal my wife's car did wear through what is an admittedly thin coating where her front tyres would be parked. This must be due either to stiction when arriving warm or her sawing at the wheel while getting it angled. Some happy day I'll have the Esprit stashed elsewhere and give the floor a refinish with same epoxy. I expect any inferior paint would not have lasted remotely as well. Cheers

 26. As someone who's tried to rinse dirt/oil/anything out of carpet... It takes for F'ing ever and a metric tonne of water and soap! I can't see using it in a garage, especially with a car that is ever driven in the rain/mud/snow/salt.

 28. Take the centres out. They are made of a plastic that will take a new shape when heated. They will fall out and never regain their original shape and size.

 29. Heavy duty floor paint on sealed concrete isn't great. It chips very easily and lifts off under tyres. I use a mix of floor paint, cheap rubber backed carpet tiles under the tyres of parked cars and several heavy duty 2.3m x 5.2m G Floor garage floor protecters in the workshop area which are available from Costco. https://www.costco.co.uk/Tyres-Automotive/Garage/Garage-Flooring/G-Floor-75-x-17ft-23-x-52M-Floor-Protector/p/112281

 30. Good evening all, Well after 17 years of it being sat in the garage today was the day it was prepared to come out. The tyres were flat but they are all now pumped up the interior was exactly the same as it was when i last saw it even smelt the same lol. I did check the intake to see if anything had made a home in there and its clear. I also checked the coolant and it was empty which i started to panic but then my dad said he emptied the coolant before putting it in the garage. I also checked the dipstick which was very low even if it was on the dipstick. From what my dad told me it had a slight leak and over the years it has dripped out. It has been in there so long that the car hasn't even had a MOT that you can check online yet all paper copies. The last time it was on the road was 2004. I have arrange to have arrange the car to be collected and it will be coming home next week. I cant wait to start working on it. First thing is to crack the car over manually to see if the engine is all good.

 32. Every fastener and fitting is being replaced in stainless steel or cad plated. Cost so far just for fittings, dont ask, the wife may just see this lol. As for the interior, thats 4 full sized auto grade leather hides so far, plus some rather special material coming from a factory in Spain for the inserts on the seats. Again, cost, ssssshh. Interior carpets complete with the same leather for the binding and in a nice contrasting Blue, made to fit by our very own Steve Margary and his wife. Great product and a pretty fair price. Paint job went 2k over budget as I wanted extra color and lacquer so it should look like a frozen pond in the sunlight. Looks like thats going to work and all in original Ice Blue. Now to cost out the mechanics. Yep, that should have been done first, but I had to keep my slot in the paint shop as he's a very very busy guy and I only got in as I know him well and he gets bits and pieces of work for LotusRescue from.

 33. It would be nice, but my Evora only just fits down the drive, if the 131 is wider it won't fit. If I win the lottery, I'll buy a house with a wider drive.

 36. Do not use old household carpet for your garage floor. Mold/mildew issues will be rife and also it will soak petrol/oil and other solvents and so is a fire risk. Industrial carpet made with olefin or similar should be fine. Personally, I just could not see much downside with the PVC tiles as easy to lay, lift and replace in tile sized sections if needed. Paint - well, eventually it just lifts and needs maintenance Resin - great in warm climates, but when damp/wet in our cold Uk climate beware you don't slip. Though I suppose you could add a non slip top coat.

 38. I'm not sure what you're angry about or why it's caused a vent but Dany moved to Hereford recently to start his own Special Forces Atelier company, ARSAS. Perhaps it's that. Where you talking about this thread? I've made a reply for you in it

 39. Hello people of Hereford and Worcester. I want to revive this thread because, being from Herefordshire, I don't feel well served by the current, um, regionalisation of meets. I feel like we fall between two stalls. Midlands meets feel very far away and I don't feel Welsh enough (or brave enough) to venture over the border. Plus it's totally illegal now. So (now that my car is back with me and on the road), I wanted to see if there is any interest in setting up (just like this thread has tried to do previously) a mini sub region, to allow those of us in the Marches (plus anyone else, of course) who wanted to, to do something local to us. I want to talk to people who talk lotus. I mean, I like talking to the other type of people at the petrol pumps and car parks, but once we've done the 'James Bond' thing and the 'Lots of Trouble' thing, that's really all there is. And it gets a bit tiresome. So... any takers. There's two gold S2 Esprits in Hereford, that I know of, for starters. Plus, it would allow people to tell me what they think of my wheels, to me face! 😆

 43. Thanks guys. I wasn't aware of a better grade set of cam belts. They will be on my shopping list from now on. Forum is great to spread knowledge. By the way I retire on Friday at 75. 10 years later than expected, and I have already started manufacturing an adapter plate to connect the V8 bell housing to the W58 Excel gearbox. By the end of this year both my Lotuses will be Lotus V8 powered!

 44. As you know, I've been working on this concept for quite a while. Recently, I have made two prototype stub-shafts without the groove. Yep, that is the way to go and can be made! If you own a car with OEM Lotus limited slip differential and would like to upgrade to stronger shafts, please drop me a note at MrDangerUS at hotmail.com Depending on the demand, I may fabricate couple of extra parts for my Lotus Brothers.
