  3. Thanks to @Bibs request for cars, now preparing for an Absolute Lotus magazine photoshoot with my S4 and @jerzybondov's Evora S in a couple of weeks. Time to get out @Greg | ValetPro's excellent Beading Marvelous Carnauba Wax My S4 is euphemistically described as a 'driver's car', not a concourse winning example, but mechanically sound and sorted thanks to @Barrykearley's previous works. On the off chance I'll be photographed I'm off to have a haircut after 14 months ...

  5. The clock. My old VDO didn't work and it was rubbish, and green, so... I took a non working Jaeger clock (eBay), pulled out the gubbins and replaced it with new innards and this is what it looks like (the car is gold, see). Personally, I am almost more pleased with this than anything else I've done. Mainly, because I can see it! 😁 Genius

  11. At 8.20am this morning a Transit van pulled up outside our house. From my first floor window I could see the passenger rolling a joint, which he shared with the driver and then followed this up by firing up a bong. God knows what was in it, but he snorted so deeply that he made himself gag. Again he passed it to the driver, who also had a go. All done, the passenger tidied up and hid the evidence in the glovebox and off they went. As the van drove off I realised that they were both mechanics at the dodgy car repair shop down the road. So they just get off their faces by 8.30am and head off

  16. Mark, your reimagining of the S2 is a wonder. To blend the original aesthetics with daily driving engineering and some of the more advanced digital and ICT features that the modern world offers has been achieved with a modest balance. Maybe this is the future of classic car stewardship in the coming decades?

  18. More news next week. Type 131 launch on 8 July. Spy shots will be coming - most of them are done as part of a planned teaser campaign. There was a piece last week about Matt Windle driving the mule cars and also some press interviews with him. Links on one of the other threads.

  19. I've never been into a Primark shop but good on them, nice to see some corporates behaving in a responsible manner and I will look into what they sell - good behaviour like this should be rewarded with custom where we can. Those who behave like shits we should embargo. Hopefully they sell wine!

  21. ^^ this. I’ve got the Covercraft one in sunny Oz and it is absolute light years ahead of other shades I’ve used in the past for quality. Fits perfectly too. IMO it’s worth it to protect a car as special as an Evora...

  23. Hi Everyone, I’ve recently bought an Evora 400 - my first Lotus. On the rare occasion I choose to listen to music opposed to the sound of the engine the Alpine stereo makes a random bleeping noise when on in SatNav, CD or radio mode. It appears not to be related to the GSI indicator. Any clues as how to get rid of this? I’m North Norfolk based - driving on a road recently when an Exige driver came from the other direction and flashed his/her lights in recognition of the marque. That’s not happened since I had a Duetto in the early 90’s. Nice touch. Very happy with my

  24. Thanks Tony! Finally got it. Needed to pry out the bottom part using a big flat screw driver with brute force as mine was glued around the bottom edges. The ashtray and door handle stay in place as they are only attached to the door card And have no connection to the door whatsoever. many thanx for all your help! best, zeb

  32. Thanks Pete. Is there a modification to prevent that from happening or do most owners just take great care not to flood the carburettors? I am considering buying a larger fire extinguisher as an alternative to refilling mine just in case it happens again.

  33. What Andy said. When selling collectables always do your research. Some things, like the things I sell, cars and Vans are really easy to research, but others like I sell in my own little business (Antiques and jewellery in precious metals) you need to research really well. For example Danish Silver sells at a large premium over Uk at present. Where you sell it also makes a difference. For me a Mix of Ebay and Auctions are best but for technology items I would look at clubs and chat rooms. Retro gaming is huge!!

  37. A completely normal day in the English countryside, with absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happening - peacefullness and calmness as always, with two typical English blokes having made a bet over a pint at the local pub, on who is going to reach work from home first, each using his preferred means of silent, quiet and meaningfull eco-friendly transportation to complete the task at hand, as it would happen on any given day... Proof given that not even a local cow bother turning it's head or even lift an eye, and local fishermen doing their daily job without any disturbance. Carry on.

  39. Could not live with those LOTUS letters on the dash, they just look so tacky and have no idea what Lotus were thinking when they used them. Also, yet again, some of those SPARCO seats just really do not age well at all. Finally the Tron sticker job - seriously, wtf was the person who did that thinking?

  40. I suspect we'll be biased on this thread but I feel the same way.. With Gig Esprits it's the first and last that seem to me most sought after, I reckon it'll be the same with Evora S1s.

  41. Eric - wise words. And very much my own philosophy. Everyone has personal taste, likes, dislikes, and some like to keep things stock. But for me, the car needs to be pop-down-the-shops-able, otherwise it’ll get used twice a year, and what’s the point in that? I’m respectful of all views, but I’m also laser-focused on what I’m seeking to achieve. I rather suspect actually, that while most wouldn’t go my route (which works for me, keeps what I do unique) most are happy to cheer the project on. Another car saved from rotting a barn somewhere, or hidden in garage 8 months of the year, and all

  42. Today was stereo upgrade day. First job, same as many many Elise / Exige owners...swap the dash speakers for a set of Focals. As a side note, I highly recommend one of these miniature Bahco socket sets. Very handy. Next up was the subwoofer. For this I chose a relatively new unit, the Pioneer TS-WX010A. The marketing blurb describes it as a unit designed for electric vehicles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gewYQm5828 What this means in practice is that it's light, small, low power consumption, and designed to be kicked when sat in the footwell. So it's perfect for the

  43. Episode 11 will come out in an hour or so. Thanks for watching!! I’m very close to the minimum number of hours for YouTube to pay me. I have no idea how much that will be. Probably $1. Haha The engine out is a 50/50 chance right now. The deciding factor is how much of the interior firewall has to come out to replace the rotted wood. If a bunch has to come out I am thinking there is a solid chance for easy timing belt access. Episode 12 will be at least front brakes and I’m going to drive this thing!! Aaron

  48. When you take off the pulley, you'll have unobstructed access to the (offending) Allen head bolt. Take this bolt out and discard. Replace it with the same length small hex head bolt, which allows for easy adjustment after re-assembly and in the future.

  49. Hi Chris and Filip I have cleaned up everything ready for seal insertion, scratched my chin, and moved on to the rear suspension overhaul. I had new dampers and springs in stock, bought ages ago! So in they went yesterday. Pictures show the old, the new, the tool and a finished side! Kind Regards Paul
