  1. Did anyone else notice that the matte black one in Scotland (previously called Dexter) disappeared off Autotrader this weekend? You reckon some idiot was mad enough to travel an approx 500mi trip to buy a car unseen and drive it all the way home? ... On an entirely unconnected note. Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaning products for matte black paint? 😉

  2. Managed to finally get my Esprit started again today after battery woes going back to December. Had charged the battery, nope, tried to fire, but immediately died, and wouldn't restart. Used the Start the Engine mode on the charger, same thing. I had to use this mode in December to start the car to get it to Gerald. Bought a battery conditioner to use instead of just my charger - took a week to condition the battery. Fired for a bit longer, but died. The battery was a Yuasa Black with an unlimited life guarantee - had it 6 or 7 years. Got a replacement, changed it this morning, car started first time.

  6. I’ve owned 2 Evoras and they are epic in every way. Of course they are. And the easiest to live with Lotus yet. And they don’t do little wee’s on the garage floor. And you can hear yourself think, even when you’re going along. The fuel gauge is still completely random, mind. It’s all mod cons. But, they’re not a timeless Esprit. And they never will be.

  10. Folks. Ive been asked many times to set up a You Tube feature detailing some of LotusRescues, recovery's, what we done with them and where they are now. Would it be of general interest. It would done under the banner of LotusRescue of course. I was thinking of compiling pictures and details of the cars that have been saved, fixed, sold on, helped out and what we currently have in the shed and the general plans for them. If it may be of interest and someone can give me a few pointers on how to set it up. I just might manage to find some time during this quarantine period to at least get it started. I was also thinking of featuring my own S3 which restoration has just started on. Let me know your thoughts. But bare in mind I am the original technophobe here.

  15. @rallyesax, I'll go with your earlier comment and say that goalies are merely misunderstood. Although it does take a certain mindset to stand between the pipes while people are firing a frozen-solid disk of vulcanised rubber at you. To give a nod to the Lotus underpinnings of the forum, I make a point of taking my Europa to hockey once or twice each season. All it takes is cramming a couple of sticks and a large bag of somewhat malodorous equipment into the passenger seat (always on a day that I can keep the windows open). As you can imagine, a Europa attracts a fair bit of attention at a hockey rink. The biggest reaction is usually when I pull regular player sticks out of the car - people see hockey gear being taken out of a car that small and assume that I'm crazy enough to be a goalie 😉

  17. Mine is a hockey family, wife and myself have played and officiated internationally, and our two kids are coming along well - daughter off to 6th form next year on a hockey scholarship, and son has just started adult hockey this season - being the youngest adult male player in the club doesn't stop him from regularly being man of the match. Play restarted in the UK a month ago, and apart form the TLF meets, it's the one thing I've missed during the numerous lockdowns we have had. The only ice is in the drinks afterwards as our hockey is on turf

  19. Hi guys I know it's about handling before ppl start ha ha Always a laugh to do a 0-60 pull to see, well very very impressed. I'm in a NA IPS and book says 4.9-5secs. With GPS timer etc. 4.6secs, Impressed, in manual mode and I didn't left foot brake off the start either so maybe 4.5secs. Anyone tried it and got under book, tbh with my. Other lotus's I noticed the factory slightly down play there numbers especially top end. (I have removed the exhaust,,,, soooo heavy, and has a plack style from the manifold, so that will help weight wise)

  20. A few years ago a young frizzy haired chap called @Barrykearley asked on here where he might find a set of carpets for his S3. Being a domestic carpet supplier/fitter with a wife who's a wizard with leather, I thought, we can do that, offered my help, and armed with a roll of paper and some carpet samples headed off to Worcestershire. The rest is history. Things have come a long way...Barry no longer has his S3, or any hair, and tomorrow morning our 50th set of carpets will be shipped off to the USA. So a huge thanks to all those people who have recommended, supported, and helped us get our little cottage industry off the ground.

  22. Loads of stuff puts me off, especially the thought of removing the dash. But after having done it, it's not so bad. Get the seats out, get on your back and crack on. get yourself a nice little 1/4 drive socket set with various wiggly extensions and they work a treat. With patience, a good days graft with coffee breaks could have it all out. Get little freezer lock seal bags for all the nuts, bolts washers etc and tag where they came from. I am replacing all mine with either stainless steel or cad plated in the hope that if they ever have to come out again, they wont be corroded to hell. You will see by the attached pic why mine all had to come out. The years of exposure to the sun and condensation gust killed the leather.

  23. Thanks for the the info guys really useful. We test drove an exige 380 sport and the engine, brakes and overall experience was stunning. The standard bilstein suspension was absolutely bobbins though. Not enough compliance and you felt like you were fighting the car at high speed - some may call that a feature but I'd have to sort that out. The brakes deserve a special mention though, way more progressive and easier to modulate than the GT4. Also the engine note surprised me, there was very little noise below 4k but above that all hell breaks loose, it was epic. Having done some research I think the Evora might be a smart choice and I understand the suspension is much better as standard @DJW your comments were very helpful. I'd kind of dismissed it as boring or flabby but seems I've misjudged it. I've seen a few 410 sports but they seem to be getting snapped up pretty quickly. With all the carbon they look lovely.

  26. When I ordered my 250Cup some years ago I wanted a hardtop and the factory gave me one as a no cost option in place of the soft top.

  28. I thought they had stopped production of the Evora so they could set up for production of the Emira along that line. No excuses for being late with release schedules.
    1 point
  29. Actually I'm surprised the Esprit didn't do better (not compared to the Quattro of course). With RWD, legendary handling and a proven ability to go offroad it should be able to set good laptimes. The vulnerable bodywork is another matter of course and one could certainly argue an Esprit deserves better than to get thrown around and knocked about on a muddy field. Still, respect for anyone racing his/her Lotus, regardless of the kind of racing and results. 👍 Filip

  30. Why don’t you think the first Emira won’t be coming out of the production hall early 2022? I would have thought end of February (possibly sooner) beginning of March was very realistic with a new production facility

  31. And those people who said it's not very appealing will be the armchair enthusiasts who have never driven a 410Sport, probably never even sat in one. It's funny but owners of other Lotus cars with the same carbon seats don't complain about them. All I can say is I'm a big bloke, probably twice the size of the usual sparrow like Lotus owner. I love the carbon seats as when I vacuum seal myself into them I am part of the car. They do have padding but don't go saggy like the Sparcos do. Also, as they are superlight carbon the backs of the seat flex and so help to absorb shocks to the upper back and shoulders. Maybe the greatest compliment I can give them is to say I have no hesitation jumping into the car, for a drive just for the fun of spunking a full tank of fuel and fully emptying it. Often 3 hours on twisty roads non stop. At 54, overweight and unfit, no issues here with those seats on that sort of drive. Ive done 6-7 hours a day on the yearly IoM trip. The seats are mounted a little upright in the Evora, which lessoned under thigh support. JonSeal made some replacement brackets that allowed them two further bolt holes to lay them back. It transformed the seats. I would recommend you try the seats in a Lotus, they are in Elise and Exige models. If they fit you then great. The 410 is outside of the GT430 the most focused Evora. Its like the Esprit GT3 in that respect. Most of them were sold with the noise reduction stuff specified back in. Only 25 in the UK. So hard to price as to be honest a lot of bullshit is repeated about them being totally stripped down so harsh and rough. Funny, if it was a 911 GT3 the same people would be waxing lyrically about how focused it was. @The Pitswas instrumental in me buying my car. Take a look at his video reviews for good insights into the car. Even with a lovely GT430 he still loves the 410 Sport! There is no doubt the 410 Sports seem to take longer to sell. Maybe Evora owners just want a soft, comfy armchair ride 😂🤣😂🤣 I'm biased, I think the dark ones take longer to sell and most did seem to be specified in darker colours. But the same can be said for all Evoras in dark colours. As for price, I'd say £58 to £65k depending on colour and spec. Mine is Fire Red, fully specified apart from Titanium Exhaust. My car would be up for the higher price lol, if I decided to sell.

  32. Honestly I am unsure what news is legit about the Emira. Most websites did articles that don't even quote anyone from Lotus, but state things as if they were fact. I have seen articles saying it uses Toyota V6 and another almost same day saying it doesn't use a Toyota engine. Honestly I am not even sure why its even to Lotus's advantage to ever say anything at this point, unless its something that is going to create hype. Telling the press "yeah there will be a Toyota V6 version in manual and torque converter auto" doesn't really fill people with excitement for the car. Makes most people think its just a differently looking 2-seater Evora. At this point unless its a press release directly from Lotus I think I am just going to wait and see what July brings.

  33. Hey mate, Hope you and the family are well? I've been gutted to not have kept the last one. Still think It was a bad move but It allows for a new journey into another Lotus. I've been tempted by a few 410's / 430Cup since. But this new Emira has sparked my excitement so feel I should see what comes of It. I will keep in touch with you and let you know 😉👍

  34. Emira is very different - Its a daily driver, two seater fixed head coupe. WIll be more powerful, heavier and larger and have more tech. Its probably more an Evora replacement than Elise. The 4 cyl will be dCT only - no manual - The V6 and updated EVora style Toyota, The EMira will I am sure be good, but the Elise is smaller and an icon. Evora will launch with the V6 and an £80 k on the road price.

  36. Sitting in the Evora, coming from your Esprit, will probably make you feel like you're in a lorry. And once you are done playing with the infotainment, the race mode button and tired of choosing little carbon parts for it, chequered floormats with 8 toned stitching, because it looks silly, even getting to the (sad) point where you will miss other people saying: "Hey, nice ferrari", you will want another car. Then you go look at the marketplaces, attend even more cars and coffee's, buy the odd mag, spending nights on searching on the web looking for a suitable replacement for the Evora, and after say ½ a year where you wife haven't had the chance to see you unless it's one of those aforementioned places, you get the ultimate idea! An Esprit.

  38. One of our esteemed members suggested on FB that he wanted to drop his Elite suspension. (mentioning no names here). Unfortunately he forgot MJK was on the page and also designed and approved the Suspension on the Elite Project as Technical Director on the project. Thought I would post his reply here for any of those that want to do the same. BTW I know dad thinks if you want to do it it's your car but you can see why he thinks you shouldn't. "Doing that will totally change and impair the exceptional handling in all conditions and cause significantly increased stresses in key chassis mountings due to very poor British roads and potholes. I designed, developed and stressed the vehicle suspension and steering ( vehicle dynamics) as Chief Engineer and would not recommend lowering the designed ride height. It may look closer to the road but our Lotus best in world ride and handling will be lost. Mike"

  39. Remind me again by how much Lotus' open top cars have outsold their coupes? Feels like it is like Cadbury's saying we are no longer going to sell Dairy Milk, just Whole Nut. Be happy!

  41. Yes we are both looking forward to seeing the Emira at FoS Had an extremely good chat with Scott Walker yesterday morning and we don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t have both the Emira and GT430 on the drive this time next year. Unless we end up at the wrong end of the waiting list.

  44. Well I bought an e92 M3 due to the engine and handling. I love it it’s fabulous but I still want an evora also as a weekend toy. I feel the 92 will start to climb in value already seeing nice once demand more money now as the seem to come in two flavours of shite or well cared for examples. I was also considering a Maserati gransport, again mainly for the engine, and I like the looks too. They seem to be pretty reliable also.
