  2. The roof mount means I can take the bike and the family. They're very practical cars. Obviously if you've got a 2+0 you can still carry bikes and luggage, just not the family (which may be a good thing )

  3. You mean people who have no intention whatsoever in test driving one, let alone buying one. Typical faceshite/[email protected] doomsayers who criticise everything whilst knowing nothing.

  4. Probably a good idea to get rid of the sun-roof – it did leak from time to time. My wife found some (grainy) photos of #44 from late 1983 or thereabouts. I'm sure Dave will rise to the challenge of putting this JPS back to form…

  5. Glad to see that the good guys are beefing up security down here for later this week and the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary are putting out a good show of force. 👍😜

  6. These photoshop pictures are getting very tiresome. In truth it’s probably not going to look like any of them, well I hope so. The unveiling is just a few weeks away can we try and keep these crap renders where they belong in the bin.

  7. The two tone Twin cam Europa is my friend Neil's. Like me he has owned his Europa since his early twenties. He also has a red Special waiting to be restored! And seeing as you missed my Europa...Here it is 😄

  9. SET UP and PLANNING.. Here we are at the start of the body restoration on JPS # 044 .. There is evidence it has had previous repair work, with a half rear quarter section put in .. Unfortunately this has not been done that well and is very easy to see.. As we have said in previous threads , any impact repair on GRP has to be explored with consideration of how far the gel crack will travel .. The usual stress points along with the direct connected area will all crack .. In the case of # 044 this consideration was not taken into account and some time after the repair all the gel crack has exposed itself .. I am sure the person who did the original repair was not aware this would happen, but as you will see from the photo's it is quite severe. These cracks stop in a straight line exactly where the new section was butted up to .. I have marked the worst area's , but to be fair they are not that difficult to spot . Stress cracks are very apparent in the seams of the 'B' and 'A' posts , both sides , but more prominent on the N/S .. The shell has also flexed on the o/s rear quarter with gel crack spreading all down that panel aswell . We also have flex area's in the front compartment that will need addressing, It also appears to have impact damage on the front that has not yet been repaired , but has split the front seam and caused extensive gel crack to the front panel . Both headlamp pods have seen better days and will need some creative reconstruction. The only other main area to cover at this point is the roof.. It has been fitted with after market sunroof , which the customer wants removing and putting back to original .. There is also some gel crack in the usual spots. I will cover all the other points as I go through the main shell , section by section . The panels will addressed later in the thread.... First job is to get that smashed screen and the old sunroof out .. Let the fun begin..

  13. Er, get in the queue Am there on Friday 9th. I have had some very nice cars but rarely brand new and even rarer being a completely new model with a wait so, for me, this will be a very special moment. I will try and look around the rest of Goodwood if I can drag myself away.

  14. Personally, I have Goodwood FOS tickets and will be making a beeline for the Lotus stand when I get there, and speaking to Jamie at B&C about a test drive as soon as they have demo cars

  16. So, another busy weekend for LotusRescue and 300 miles covered. Collected a spare engine and gearbox for an early Type 75 Elite. Then across the Highlands to collect an abandoned Elite project. Nice drive up over the Cairn oh Mount (google it, stunning road) loaded said Elite, back to main roads and a bloody puncture on the trailer. Of course, where is the trailer spare carried on the trailer. Yep, on the floor, under the bloody Elite. No chance of getting it out without having to offload the car again on a busy main road. it then dawned on me. No jack or wheel brace so crawled home on 3 good wheels. Lessons learned. As well as extra straps, 2 remotes for the winch and some other bits and bobs in the storage box. GET A BLOODY JACK AND WHEEL BRACE IN THERE FOR NEXT TIME. Still, the big covered RS3 Shuttle trailer did her job perfectly again and the uprated electric winch was perfect in pulling the Elite up a fairly steep incline and onto the trailer. So another project saved for someone too take over. And another spare engine available.

  17. I've had 4 over 9 years, covered over 100k miles. They are completely effortless to drive, so much torque, and the DCT is heaven, but over the years other manufacturers have caught up, back in 2008 it was quite something. I guess on a Lotus forum most people won't like a DCT car, but to me the downshifts are amazing and make the car. Main thing is you do feel the weight, although it hides it well, braking hard several times in row and you feel like you're trying to stop 1 and 3/4 tons. My last one was a 2016 model, and I had a Lichfield stage 4 up to 650 bhp, which really is quite savage and great fun. The Exige 410 will feel a little flat by comparison, but much more fun at the same time. The Gtr is a bit too good at everything (except braking hard on track) and lacks a sense of occasion. If you step out of an Exige and back into a Gtr it feels like the seating position of a normal family car. Something to bear in mind which many owners don't even realise, is that the facelift Gtr came out on a 66 plate and has ASE (active sound enhancement) which plays trumpet like noises through the Bose speakers. You can't turn it off by any controls, but can by entering a code to access the service menu. Then the car is too quiet. Gtr's need an aftermarket exhaust to make a decent sound, most fit a Y pipe at least. Tyres last about 9k miles, brakes are very expensive but front discs last about 25k miles normal road use (Nissan quote 3.2k for front discs) nobody buys them of course. Nissan charge around £165 per hour for servicing. They are great cars but I became bored of driving them, hence why I'm here.

  20. As of a couple of weeks ago I decided to stop working and retire. At 75 I thought it was about time. I have now started the long awaited mods to my Excel. I have now made an adapter plate that mates the Toyota W58 (Excel) gearbox to the lotus 918 V8engine. it will use the twin plate AP clutch with the friction plates made to take the Toyota spline. i will keep the topic updated as I go. 21. Ive been a member here for a while and an owner of a M100 for around three years. Thought it is about time I introduced myself. in early 2018 I bought M100 IB10 from Lotusman33. One of the first built in 89 and last to leave in 96. I’ve loved my ownership having attended the 70th Lotus event (car represented the model in the one of every model area.), the 30th anniversary of the m100 at Castle Combe. I also packed the car up and drove to and around Italy for 6 weeks in 2019 to celebrate my 50th, 10th wedding anniversary and 30th car birthday. This year I decided to add another Lotus to the garage, a car I’ve adored for over 40 years, an Esprit. Wish I had bought when I was first looking in 96 but the time just wasn’t right. Anyway, few weeks ago I found this S3. Previous owner found it in a barn. It had been stored for 16 years but regularly started, and spent 9 months restoring it. I’m over the moon with my purchase. It’s had a huge amount of work completed but still has a few things I want to improve.

  23. Fuel leaking at the rails or the injectors would result in a huge spraying mess and a probable fire ball. I’d hope it’s not in that area - like women - look for the damp patch 👍

  24. Only the best one. Or will be. Just wait until you see the new interior. It will make you weep. Full auto grade leather interior with bespoke cloth inserts for the seats and lower part of the door cards. Specially made and shipped from a manufacturer in Spain. Specifically designed for hard use areas like car seats. It's going to be stunning. if I say so myself.

  32. Hi, as for the off topic, don't worry about it I don't think you will annoy much people lol (it really is a pity as a wiki would be great tool in my opinion but I can't really do it alone ^^' — although I would contribute happily obviously!) As for my inbox I think it was probably full indeed. I am always reluctant to delete anything so I think it was a good occasion to get the ROW FFM status! It's only fair to Bibs anyway Hopefully it will be enough to let you send me a PM now?

  34. Went down to Newton Abbot yesterday and on the A30 bit near me, there were at least 7 police/emergency vehicles in convoy headed in the Cornwall direction. Don't think I'll nip down to St Ives in the coming days, and also not drive too fast up/down the A30.

  37. Hi Tony my MX5 motors have arrived and ive bench tested one of them and it seems to work ok. Rotates 180 deg one the dipped and main beam and continues to 360 deg on return/release. Looking at it from the front it rotates anti clockwise so hopefully its going the right way.

  39. Coming all the way from Germany if the travel / quarantine / vaccination game plays in our favour. Still have a bunch of tickets from 2020. i'll be there with a group of friends all weekend on the campsite near to the main entrance. My plan was to take my Jeep Wrangler w. rooftop tent but since Lotus is now in the spotlight I might have to bring one. Just not the perfect car to camp in for 4 days 🤣

  47. Confession time! I’ve just bought a manual 718 GT4 in full fat club sport spec with the carbon brakes & 918 buckets. I’ve absolutely no doubts about the overall quality of the GT4 package. However, there was some serious soul searching about buying my very first Porsche after a lifetime of avoiding the marque. But you only live once and their GT cars are brilliant. I fully intend to hang onto my 430 as a long term keeper. It will be interesting to see how the cars directly compare: From both an outright performance and practical everyday enjoyment perspective. I did consider hanging on to see what a sportier ‘cup’ version of the Emira ends up looking like, but patience is not my strong point. Plus the GT4 is a very, very pretty car to look at and the naturally breathing 4L engine just had to be given a long term go. (Don’t think it will be able to match the V6 soundtrack, but it does rev out well). I pick the car up in a couple of weeks and will let you know how it goes from a Lotus loving but ultimately marque agnostic petrolhead perspective.

  48. Another great day at Combe, with both weather and circuit in fine fettle. Sadly the catering was pretty dire as only a cafe take out service and the queue was mostly over 30 mins long. Loos almost as bad. I portaloo (2 urinal and one trap) for ~500 blokes. Not quite sure why covid prevents the normal loo blocks to be opened. Not many Esprit's there this year - maybe a dozen and I think only Lionel on track. Loads of M100s - great showing from LEC, and a fair cluster of Excel/Eclat/Elite. Drivers mostly very well behaved on track which made it a real pleasure - managed 4 sessions + parade! Great to catch up with a few old friends off here....
