  1. Awarded myself a bit of downtime today before the daily hospital visit and took myself off for a couple of hours to the monthly 'Autobahn Scotland' breakfast meet at South Queensferry. The old girl scrubs-up not too badly for 111⁄2 years old and just shy of 80k miles on the clock, . Looks pretty good from all angles too,

  2. Thanks for the kind offer. But we spent so much time searching for diesel around the Norfolk area, we didn't have time to stop or hang about. Do you guys drink diesel instead of T or water. Where the hell does it all go too in Norfolk. 9 service/filling stations with no fuel. Unless of course you want to pay crazy motorway prices, and at £1.99.9 per Lt, that's not for me when doing a round trip of 1471 miles at 22 MPG in the truck. Count that out at roughly 20 p per Lt extra. It expensive enough as it is. On average we were paying £1.77 per Lt, instead of the norm of about £1.70 at home which makes it bad enough. Profiteering me thinks. Must admit though. The little 3.5 Canter did herself proud again. Never missed a beat both down and back with the Elite going South and the Elan 130 coming home. Dragged this out sideways after something like a 20 year slumber.

  3. I will tell you all this, I sat and thought about my last guess for most of the day. I was trying to work it out in my head in the car driving from home to work this morning and again home from work this arvo. If you haven't completed 296 yet, I will tell you this. It is not ASBUD. I tried quite a few bizarre concoctions of the English language and was met quite a few times with the 'Not in The Word List' error message. Was there some odd mix of letters that made a word that I was not privy to? Could it be the first five letters of the word ASUNDER? No, it wasn't. Then all of a sudden the light went on, I hit myself quite soundly in the forehead with a ball peen hammer, (which has left a nasty dent and the slowly worsening inky coloured marking that goes along with said contusion) entered my last guess and had that enviable flood of emotion as one by one, the letters turned green. Still thought "You idiot. That was easy." to myself though. Postscript: I really hate this game.

  6. Thanks for that. I drove past it a couple of weeks ago and the Lotus badge had gone, so I wondered what was going on. Coincidentally it’s only about 400 metres away from the Ray Mallock facility, which is preparing the Emira GT4. Here’s a photo when the factory was Lotus owned.

  8. I went to an all-British car show over the weekend. The Elite was well received - not many "nice" ones in the US, so it was an unusual sight. Several people took note, which made for lots of good conversations. Before the show, I re-hung the passenger door. It was sitting a bit low in the back & was difficult to open/close. Adjustment is time consuming but relatively simple - remove the trim panel in the foot well to give access to the rear of the hinge mounts, then loosen the top and/or bottom hinge mounts to allow the door to rotate up/down. I used a floor jack to support the door, loosened the top bolts, jacked up the rear of the door an inch or so, then re-tightened (an inch of jacking does not equal an inch of adjustment - some slack is involved, so the door will droop a bit after being tightened and the jack removed). I repeated this process several times until the top of the door [mostly] lined up with the body behind the door. After getting the door lined up, I adjusted the door striker so that it would accept the latching mechanism. I ran out of time before getting the angle of the door striker just right, so it's still a little difficult to open, but at least it looks better now. I'll get back to adjusting it this coming weekend. Unrelated, but worth a note for the record: I learned, recently, that replacing the rear wheel bearings isn't nearly as big of a job as I'd thought. Apparently, one only needs to drop the entire hub assembly in very hot water to allow for metal expansion and removal of the old bearing. After the whole assembly is heated, if the bearing doesn't simply drop out, then a couple taps should free it. While the assembly is still hot, a frozen bearing should drop right in. I've not tried this, but it appears to be common knowledge amongst those in the know; so this serves as a reminder to future me, and anyone else who happens to Google their way here.

  11. Hi @ProAlloy-Alex, can you please respond to the following request for information (stated above also): Can you itemise the kit of parts proposed and if possible where these can be sourced from? You said you would share the CAD with individuals, can you post it here instead? I'm under the impression some parts have been completed or at least started the manufacture process, can you let us know what you have and maybe we can purchase them with a view to finishing the project somehow? cheers -Chris

  25. OR, its the wrong resistance coil. FWIW, some ignition system providers (Pertronix?) specified coils of a different resistance than stock. Then, if they failed and 'factory' parts were refitted, you could see the issues you are experiencing.

  32. Maybe we'll now get some humility from some Max fans and Horner (who seems to have wound it back a bit) et al who must now all surely realise that to win the WDC, not only do you need a great driver, you need a great car, and a great team. Maybe they'll realise that it was the combination of all 3 that allowed Hamilton and Merc so much success. Easy to say Hamilton only won because he had the best car. So not true as Max is now finding out. Is that jibe now going to be levelled at LeClerc - he is only beating Max because of the car? A stellar performance by LeClerc. Again. A classy drive from a classy driver who doesn't need dirty tactics or intimidation to stamp authority.

  37. I made a plate to replicate the footprint of the solenoid frame, so I could mount the internals from an inexpensive pair of EBay mirrors in place of the solenoids. This required a different joystick switch, but the action is much better. I don't have pics of the shell bracket or the mirror backing plate attachment, but here's what the motor unit looked like;
