  2. So frustrated with the AP Racing German distributor. 2 months waiting for the ordered (and paid for) clutch slave. Today, they cancelled the order because they cannot confirm a delivery date. A call into the UK distribution network and presto ! The item will be available in 1 week. Continuing on with other small jobs. The problem with custom work is that you end up having to prepare other bespoke parts to fit them... here brackets for the gearchange and cable

  4. Nice of Lotus to share updates on the production delay with those that have saved hard in order to buy an Emira and put down deposits before blowing smoke up Schmee's backside. I guess they think our blind faith is inifite, I for one am getting a little tired of this approach.

  5. That's exactly what I did but I also replaced the connectors as well. I added dedicated fused live feeds for the headlights, fans and windows. There is no point in adding relays unless you beef up the live feeds.

  9. My point still stands, its not the leads fault. Its the electrical system, normally an extension cable TBH. I had an "outside plug socket" fitted 3 years ago and as a heavy duty socket I have not had a single issue. But I have used plug sockets in hotels, BnB's and other peoples houses and also never had an issue. What you haven't taken on board is that all of this will be an invalid argument as the Manufacturers are phasing them out and will not support vehicle warranties if you don't use the main lead linked to a totem. "You must use one of our leads", followed by "which we don't make anymore" is just a way to say no, you can't have one. It's all a fix I tells ya! A Fix!

  14. Another IPS Sports Racer S up on Autotrader for Β£50k with 17,000 miles (Pewter grey, same as mine). I have a feeling this one was advertised elsewhere last May for Β£48k at around 13,000 miles! Surely unlikely to sell at that price, especially given how long the two at Hendy have been up for, both of which have been reduced recently.

  15. I took the head and gasket to Mike Taylor today and he found the problem, the two roll pins that stick out of the top of the block and go through the gasket then into matching holes in the head were bottoming out in the head holes. All this is because I had had the head ground so holes in the head were not deep enough to take the pins. on looking closely at the gasket he could see that there was a sign of leaking slightly on all four cylinders on the exhaust side. I will trim back the pins and put it all together again.

  16. Got emissions down to MoT-acceptable after a reset, a good thrashing, and new cat/O2 sensor. Found all the number plate light debris hanging around in the hole and glued it all back together, and it worked. Clutch pedal was silly high once the servo bracket had been rectified, so that's now sorted. Wasn't happy with the brake balance, so bled it again, twice. A manual bleed did the trick. Ian's Delco-Moraine deletion kit combined with AP brakes: WOW. I've dialled the valve all the way up for the rear brakes; Red can make his own assessment but I think it's better that way. And now, it's away! Get some miles on it, mate.

  17. I indeed upgrade my wiring. I ran two 10 ga brown wires from the starter solenoid to the front, one for the three Spal fans that I installed, and one for the headlights. The headlight performance drops significantly when the voltage drops below the rated voltage (12 volt). The fans can survive though. I added relays fore the fans and headlights. Lots of changes, but well worth it.

  20. Much has been said on the merits of Evans, not sure I'm persuaded. Overview of the cooling system from perspective of what is good for the engine is oil near 100 C., cylinder head nearer 82 for best resistance to combustion irregularities. If it's all been built to function well and in good nick why reinvent the wheel? The conventional mix of water/antifreeze in a pressurized system should never boil given attention to getting the system optimized. The 900 series is a rugged engine when properly sorted and operated. Cheers

  22. Agree with above.....why not give it a go yourself. You'll learn more abut the condition of the carbs, probably take better care of dismantling and rebuild and have the satisfaction of a job well done at a fraction of the cost. It doesn't take that long - I did mine over the course of a lazy weekend, on and off as time allowed. Also once rebuilt you can then set them up which again is totally satisfying and details of both rebuild and setting up are on Youtube. For me part of running a car such as an Elite is the joy of not being slave to ECUs, diagnostic computers and mahoosive dealer rates. Proper old school hands on motoring. Good luck πŸ‘

  27. I find hiding the number plate frustrating too. I found the registration of the World Championship homage Evora on the trader's website. It's 111JPS and registered with the DVLA as an Evora S 🀨. That registration would better suit an Elise Type 79 in my humble opinion πŸ˜‰.

  28. I agree Justin, particularly with the graphics. It doesn't work for me either, but each to their own πŸ‘ When I picked up my Evora it had "go faster" stripes. I didn't like them at all but, when I read about the car's history and Lotus' personal involvement and marketing, they had to stay. I'm getting used to them now and I think they suit the rear end better than those of the JPS I hate it when they hide a car's registration. What have they got to hide? First thing I do us look at the car's MOT history

  29. I've always used premium unleaded in my 10.5 years of ownership and know the car VERY well after 40k miles. The only time it is at all "grumpy" and not it's normal smooth revving self is if it's been started a few times and not run - this only happens if I have had to move the car from the garage to work on another car and move it back! It is then only the first gear change from 2nd to 3rd when it will do it. Normally when I use the car I just start it up and go, and it's excellent

  30. Hello Rob. One additional "Yes" to the carpet clips. They were standard fitment from the factory. All the bolts on the lower "B-post" section are painted over body colour from the factory. The repainter got that feature correct. By the way, speakers in the rear bulkhead were first factory fitted on the turbo esprit and maybe some esprit S2.2 in 1980 AFAIK. But it was not unusual that radios and speakers were fitted by the supplying dealer so might be "fitted from new" on your car.

  31. As Steve says car doesn’t like a short start and I am wondering have you encounter bad fuel ? I started filling up at Tesco 99 stuff works ok but do wonder how good it will be in long term? with my basic mechanical knowledge would that reddex stuff be worth trying ?

  32. Has the car been started a few times without actually going on a run? Assuming the MAF sensor is clear, I have had Kangaroo symptoms occasionally if I have started the car, and moved it a few times without taking it on a run. It just doesnt like being started from cold and not run it seems. When I have had this and it kangaroos in 2nd I just dip the clutch, rev it a bit, let it clear its throat, and then its fine. Never happens when the engine is hot.

  33. I sent the following, to Chinks@ on Monday. No reply yet. Good Morning, I wonder if you can help. I own an Elise Cup 250 FE with the AIM dash and I’m disappointed that I cannot use a gps unit or reverse camera. AIM say the MXLotus needs software update but it is not their device it is a Lotus device. Lotus after sales say it’s an AIM device and there’s nothing they can do. So, as a customer of Lotus (3rd new Lotus) and have an Emira on order, I am disappointed that us Final Edition owners have been left out in the cold with an unsupported product. Please advise. Regards,

  35. The three Lotus people I'm emailing are: Geoff Dowding (Executive Director, Sales and AfterSales) Chris Hinks (AfterSales Director) Tony Parfitt (Regional AfterSales) Standard email format for Lotus employees is: First Initial followed by surname @lotuscars.com Keep it polite (just asking, not demanding) and see if you have any luck... My email was: >>> As a recent purchaser of a Final Edition Elise 240, I’ve found the new TFT digital display very good - however with just a few more tweaks it would be perfect… One of the main missing features is that although the dash unit has input for a reversing camera (which is available from the manufacturer Aim sport systems) the software in the dash is unable to detect it. I have enquired from Aim sport systems as to if they will bring out a firmware upgrade to enable this, but they state that it is up to Lotus to request this - not them. Aim separately sell the Lotus-specific dash called M2XE which does support this and many other missing features - and they only want to sell me this version, however I feel I’ve already paid for it in the form of the Lotus version in my Final Edition. Is there some chance that Lotus could ask Aim to provide an upgrade to the Final Edition dash to provide at least this basic safety feature?

  38. Apropos of nothing, and as a matter of Interest, so many of us on here hold great stock on the issue of whether the clutch has been changed on early Evoras. I have had mine for five and a half years, (01/2011 NA sport pack), and gone from 28-37k miles (I know, sad innit) with no problem. At every service, with a reputable, but now disenfranchised, specialist, they report that the clutch is good. When I bought the car I had the money for a clutch replacement in my fighting fund, and still do. My question is, (and I have tried the forum search) . How do you know when the clutch is on the way out? Does it slip? Do you get a clunk, and there is nothing there? Or can you not select a gear? Or does the pedal do nothing? Just interested to know is all.

  39. Heres a reminder of all the loom tape I had to peel off eight years ago. Gutting when you have just spentΒ£460 on the loom! As you can see this was a deep resto! I sat there for hours and hours checking all the circuits and even the printed circuit board before I found the duff wire put in by the loom manufacturer. Good job I decided to cut it. This fault finding was really A level!
