  4. Just a bit of fun, What seemingly simple job turned out to be the most awkward, painful job you've ever done on your Esprit? Having just removed the dashboard binnacle cover on my GT3 to straighten the instruments, fit dash speakers and fix the clock, removal and replacement of the binnacle cover gets my vote. I took advice from a thread on this forum saying ' remove by turning anticlockwise, replace by turning clockwise, even so It took an age to figure out how to get it off without damaging it, the windscreen or the A pillar. Getting it back in was even harder, nearly an hour of getting it jammed against the A pillar, getting it jammed against the windscreen, cutting my forearms to shreds on the metal parts of the dash and just sitting and staring at it, wondering how the heck you are supposed to get it back in place. It looks such a simple job but the air was decidedly blue in my garage by the time I eventually got it back in (luckily without scuffing or breaking anything on the car.) I however now look like a self harmer πŸ˜‚ PS, If someone now comes along with a simple, quick, pain free way of going about this task I'll........................πŸ€¬πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‰ Shaun

  5. I heard they had a leaving do planned at a brewery, but the plans fell apart. Even Boris could organise a piss up in a brewery. Funny how they spent months arguing/figuring out who would be the best person to lead the govt, now that's gone wrong their gonna redo it in a week??? That's democracy in action! Maybe we should just have guest PMs, everyone gets a go for a month.

  6. Wiper linkage replacement - two grown men almost reduced to tears. And that was with the dashboard out.

  7. For me it had to be removing the exhaust manifold with the engine in-situ. Replacing a fuel tank, water pump or timing belt are all a breeze compared to that job! The one job I've found impossible so far is deciding to sell it.

  11. Thank You for posting - I indeed saw that and spoke to him. Exact same thing although he said my car actually sounds worse than his did, with his SC replaced at 4,600 miles (my car on 5k). He said replacement cost was Β£6k, so potentially this explains the lack of willingness from Lotus to replace unless broken. Have 3 more track days booked this year, then car is going back to dealer for oil change so will have it looked at again then.

  16. I'd consider removing the whole upright with link attached (which is actually pretty straightforward) and take the assembly to someone like PNM in Wallasey (Merseyside) for him to remove it for you. I would image that could be done before January. And you would presumably save some money on disassembly/assembly.

  17. As a brief but long overdue update, my car is currently with Back On Track, who have been manging my engine rebuild process. They removed the engine and gearbox from the car, and sent them to Tom at Datum Motorsport to carry out the rebuild, which is now finally nearing completion. High level specs are as follows: Forged pistons & rods from Jubu (made by CP Carrillo, same spec as Radford) Billet cams, beehive springs and titanium retainers from Kelford Cams Titanium intake valves and inconel exhaust valves from MonkeyWrench Racing Uprated hydraulic lifters and rocker retaining clips from MonkeyWrench Racing Ported & polished cylinder heads ARP2000 head bolts Stock crank with custom pulley / damper XtremeClutch twin plate ceramic clutch with adjustable release valve Komotec shortened final drive kit Strengthened shifter fork ends Cryo treatment for gearbox internals While I have specifically not set any requirements in terms of final numbers, we should be able to hit over 8000rpm, which is my main goal. Power will be what it will be, but we may well need to cap it to reduce likelihood of gearbox damage. Most important thing for me is that the engine feels more special and exciting, not how much ultimate power it puts out. Frankly anything over 500hp is mental enough! I am also having a bespoke motorsport wiring loom made up. This should save around 9kg from junking redundant wiring alone. Will also make it easier to remove the rear clam in future as all wiring will go through one motorsport connector. Final major update is fitting the new TracTive semi active dampers as seen on @GFWilliams's car and the new Pagani no less. The Ohlins TTX I had were great on track but too stiff for me on road. I also really wanted to be able to adjust the dampers on the fly from inside the car, which is what the TracTive system allows. I considered Ohlins mechatronics but the TracTive system is far more sophisticated and came highly recommended by Mr. Williams. Big shout out to Sam @ BoT and Tom @ Datum, who have both been absolutely outstanding so far throughout the process. I'll reserve final judgement until the car is up and running, but there has certainly been no faulting their customer service. Both have given me all the time in the world, answering all my questions, helping me with selecting parts, planning the build etc., and have always kept me up to date on progress. Cannot ask for more than that. To be continued...

  18. Getting the roof panel into the trunk. It's even worse than USB, you have to turn it around at least 8 times to find it only fits in the position you started from.

  21. All this bollocks about β€œstability”! Tory supporters cannot expect that after what their Party has now done. A GE is the only way forward. β€œDear oh dear” as the King said. Still at least Liz Trump apparently gets Β£115k p.a. for life just for her 45 days as PM. Result.

  23. Well well, Scary Face (LT) has finally gone so Basil Brush (KS) and the Fish (NS) want an election, now that’s a surprise πŸ™„ After I stated last week that Basil gave a decent speech & warning to Labour MPs not to fcuk up the opportunity the party had been presented with, he has shown his leadership class by trying to fcuk it up himself. Always banging on about the same subject β€œlet’s have a GE” & he accuses the Tories of having nothing new. Does he really believe that a Labour Govt with him as PM will calm the World’s markets & stabilise the UKs economy. A guy who has never offered anything other than constant schoolboy criticism As for the Fish, well words fail me, another one who can only continually beat the same drum.

  27. On the discussion of Emira values affecting Evora, it can be argued that the GT cars are a very different prospect, it can also be argued that is likely Lotus won't be able to hold the Emira launch price for very long considering horrible inflation... Matt W seemed to intimate as much in his video with Harry. I suspect that will stabilise prices across the board if/when it happens.

  33. Miserable sods! As quiet electrics cars become normal so people have something new to moan about. In my opinion this is totally pathetic of the government, they have more important things to do like run the country properly! I guess as roads and motorways have got slower due to congestion, Councils takings for speeding fines are down, so this is a new way to make money. One of my cars is 110 dbs at full chat, yes it's noisy but it's fun. In a world of mediocrity it's nice to have something different. Guess I'm going to have to get used to paying fines. I'm not going to stop making lots of noise.

  34. Production officially started on the Evija, with first deliveries in 2023: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1137487_lotus-evija-is-now-the-world-s-most-powerful-production-car Interestingly, the specs are quite different from the announcement of the car. A bit stronger motors, but more significantly it has 93 kWh battery instead of 70 and 4160 lbs instead of 3600-3700. Even with the higher bigger battery, it still gets only 250 miles of WLTP range. I'm guessing the battery size increased to hit that range target, which makes sense since super strong motors and more than 1 motor (let alone 4) typically impact range a great deal. I wonder if the volume of the battery changed and if that impacted the size of the Evija or the carbon monocoque.

  35. The media in this country are out of control. They live in the gutters and sewers of society constantly stirring things up by the way in which they report events etc and give a voice to idiotic minorities who would go away if they were not afforded the publicity which the useless media gives them. off topic but take these β€œjust stop oil” hooligans, not protesters just attention seeking hooligans. They rejoice in the attention given to them by the media. The next time they glue themselves to a wall just leave them there and provide baskets of eggs & tomatoes for the inconvenienced public to throw at them.

  38. After over 3 months of waiting, I finally got my car back at the end of May, just in time for a cracking day at Goodwood (having already missed out on a day at Snetterton that I had booked but had to cancel since the car wasn't ready in time). The car was absolutely fantastic and it felt great to finally be back on track, even though I was seriously rusty from lack of driving and very nervous given all the work that had just been completed, especially at a fast track where I had never been before. I have had lots of positive comments on the new look, which I must say that I am incredibly pleased with myself. Pictures included below. What do you think? P.s. You may recognise the (excellent) photographer from this parish...
