Well, I may be pushing it a bit here but I left the house this evening to walk down the road and pick up a curry and there was a bird sitting on the front wing of my car. I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn’t react but when I got back the bird was still there. I moved up closer and nothing, no reaction at all. Strange, bearing in mind that it was very damp and pretty cold. So anyway, the bird is now wrapped up in front of a radiator in my study with some sugared water and some bread. We’ll see what happens by the morning! My question to myself - did I take an interest because it was a poorly bird or was it because I didn’t want it sitting on my car all night.6 points

I’m very grateful I caught the Nelson museum just by chance (around summer 2004 maybe?) just before it closed and got to see the cars while they were in the U.K. I did take a lot of photos of the car as it was on a plinth of stuff like suspension and chassis but like an idiot deleted these off a few years ago. I was interested in how rough the car was looking at that point but probably wouldn’t have touched a thing on it and just run it as it was if I’d owned it!3 points

JENNIFER UPDATE: My 'Certificate of Appointment' as Jennifer's guardian arrived in the post today from the Office of the Public Guardian. I knew that I'd been granted full guardianship for the next 5 years at the court hearing last week but it's not official until you get this piece of paper. Whilst I'm not happy that this process was necessary, at least now I've got the final say on any decisions anybody wants to take concerning either Jennifer's welfare or her finances. Also today I received confirmation from one of the nursing homes on the shortlist I had to draw up for the hospital discharge team, that they would be able to accept Jennifer from Tuesday of next week. Again, not something I'm overjoyed about - I'd far rather she was coming home with me of course - but in the scheme of things it's the best solution for now. The hospital ward environment is really starting to get to her so having her own quiet space when she needs it, but with access to all sorts of positive stimulation from a variety of available activities and interaction with a whole load of fellow residents when she wants either or both of those, will hopefully kickstart a new phase of her currently stalled progress towards recovery.2 points

Very nice but looking for a SC version, preferably 410 sport, trying to be specific with colour etc does limit the choice but as the discussion, prices do seem to be sticking.2 points

It's been mine for two months now and I love it more every day. To the extent I am determined not to park it for winter, so set about a deep clean underneath and some pre-winter corrosion inhibitor. Thought I'd share a few pics and also can I ask the knowledgable, what is the tin foil doing on the back of the rear hubs (it's on both sides) see the 3rd pic. I know Lotus is all about aluminium but this was quite a surprise, do they all have it or is this a an accepted 'bodge' or something else? Step 1 - soaking with foam (Autoglym polar blast) Step 2 - degreasing (Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, first time I've used it.. highly recommended) Step 3 - the mystery tin foil.. Step 4 - with everything thoroughly dried off, wheel arch liners coated with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care Step 5 - and the running gear covered with with corrosion inhibitor (ACF 50) Step 6 - drying out in the sunshine, super purposeful side profile Step 7 - bit of wax on the under arch bodywork and calipers Step 8 - Quick late afternoon wash to finish off (I'd started about 9 in the morning..) Done. A hell of a job.. took many more hours than planned but now I won't fear taking it out in the coming months. Happy days.1 point

Was that at Abingdon? Took my Son there a while back and he loved it. I sneaked in a GT40 drive too.1 point

That finisher also present on my S2 from factory, carpet laid on to it for a smoother appearance.1 point

That seems to work really really well! This morning I had a little ride and indeed the throttle pedal is more than a centimeter ‘lower’ than the brake pedal. I am putting this on my list of little winter projects! 😀1 point

That finisher is the same as my 84 model, which is still an 'early spec' version (pre-dates glass roof and trunnion deletion).1 point

https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-features/sports-cars-under-30k--six-of-the-best/46432 Not sure if that car is still on sale? Will said recently he had none on the books at the moment? Anyway, I'm sure this is a shopping list many will be familiar with.1 point

That's my car!! I guess the for sale ad is still up in places.1 point

A great addition @RichardJGC All road going Esprits should have AC IMO. FAB.1 point

Didn’t realise it had the AIM dash as well. Only the FE cars had a digital factory fitted dash so it will be after market. I think they cost around £1500 so another decent extra to have.1 point

Thats much neater. The dry sump car I used to own which had AC from the factory didnt have that, the carpets were glued over the hoses.1 point

As per another post, I’m here now looking to buy an Evora because of the Emira. After watching Harry’s garage review and going to Goodwood this year I was up to placing my order, then the two year wait stopped me in my tracks. Then the price was moving too, not such a great proposition after all. I have my Esprit but want a modern sports car for regular use now our family car is a lumbering 4x4, the Evora fits because I’m not a Porsche lover and R8 too detached for my liking. I have concerns over the Evora price going forward and feeling uneasy with the current prices but if more people think like me the prices can go up 😬1 point

Another one for the list. I leave the handbrake off, in gear and a couple of bricks as chocks.1 point

The body and the chassis were cosmetically bad but actually solid underneath so respray and powder coating fixed those . The engine did need a full rebuild - I suspect this is why it was off the road since 1990. So it now has new liners pistons , bearing , reground crank. I had hoped that woudnt be the case , but suspected it might and sadly for the wallet that was true Now working through the big rebuild1 point

Good suggestion on the rear fade - will check it out!!1 point

As has been stated above I wouldn’t worry. Lots of Exige’s have low miles with numerous owners. That one has the bonus of a soft top which adds another dimension to an already brilliant package and saves you about a grand……..if you can find one. As long as it’s been serviced correctly and looked after just go for it.1 point

Ecstatically happy today. A 1st for LotusRescue. It's not unusual for us to find, or move on 2 car's in one day. But I think it would be extremely rare for anyone to ship off 2 cars in one day to the other side of the world and to sepparate customers. Our little Elan M100 NA was delivered by yours truly to the transport hub 1st thing this morning followed by the type 75Lotus Elite 3 hours later. Both cars now handed over and will be heading for Southampton docks with a departure date of the 18th and due in Ozz on the 6th of January. There they will be transhipped to their final destination with he Elan going to Brisbane and the Elite off to Sydney. So no we have mastered the logistics of getting it done. Anybody looking for a car from the UK to land in Ozz. :).1 point

I can add that there are 54 heated tailgate glasses left on the planet Earth, and they are for 1992 onwards Esprits. At a very cheap price. Cheers. Jacques1 point

Could be things outside the engine... Tried using fresh fuel? Crimp/block the fuel hose to the pump, and use a hose in a gas can with fresh fuel. During this exercise, look for debris coming from the gas tanks. Hopefully the fuel was FULL during storage, otherwise might be rusty flakes blocking flow. (Tho', not likely to totally prevent fueling) You not only need fuel PRESSURE, you need fuel VOLUME. Procedures for checking are in the Service Notes. Your roll-over valve might be to blame.. The ROV is located in the RH sail panel. I removed mine and cleaned it, but for troubleshooting purposes you could more easily disconnect the hoses to it over the RH gas tank, and flush it with intake/carb cleaner. You can diagnose a Cold Start Injector by temporarily plugging the tan connector for the WUR to the CSI.1 point

Flatband barrels with narrow early centers. They are pitas since you have to split them to remove tires not to damage them. I need to return them to original gold, not easy since they are Mg Here’s the clearance to the brakes. Braid, factory fuchs and these E50’s 15’s clear, it may not always be the case with other 15” wheels.1 point

Another minor change finished off today. I saw a fair few posts in various places about people changing the rear view mirror for a smaller one. The OEM one is very big, and blocks an unnecessary amount of vision, especially if you are tall. If you look at it, only the middle part is actually reflecting anything useful. I saw some people who had bought a £10 mirror from Amazon, with the major benefit being it fitted onto the OEM mount. You just had to swap it across onto the ball. Unfortunately (as you can probably see) the mirror was very wide angled and I didn't like it. I definitely did like how much less space it took up though. I therefore thought I'd see if I could sacrifice the mirror and use the rear section with the ball mount. I got some scrap aluminium (from an old broken trolley jack and butchered it about a bit. The ball mount had to be spaced out a bit and the gaps filled and primed. Next I needed the mirror. The solution for this was a 4" x 2" inspection mirror which died for the cause. The whole lot was then masked and painted in satin black before being attached to the OEM mount. Refitted to the car and I can see everything I need to out of the rear as well as a lot more out of the front. The only downside is that the mirror can obviously no longer be dimmed, but for how often I drive in the dark this doesn't bother me too much.1 point

After over 3 months of waiting, I finally got my car back at the end of May, just in time for a cracking day at Goodwood (having already missed out on a day at Snetterton that I had booked but had to cancel since the car wasn't ready in time). The car was absolutely fantastic and it felt great to finally be back on track, even though I was seriously rusty from lack of driving and very nervous given all the work that had just been completed, especially at a fast track where I had never been before. I have had lots of positive comments on the new look, which I must say that I am incredibly pleased with myself. Pictures included below. What do you think? P.s. You may recognise the (excellent) photographer from this parish...1 point
