The car was mine.............The bullet Even i cant believe it went for that sort of money, it was in a lovely pre-crash condition but to give you some idea of how hard the arse hit the tree.........................The black flexi drain tube from the tail gate channel which runs down behind the rear wheel arch & normally has around 8 inches between it & the inner arch section looked like an iron had been left on it.........totally flat, the impact was massive & you can push the quarter with your knee,trouble is to the untrained eye, the fibre glass absorbs the impact & springs back unlike a tin top. Both front wheels are actually broken. & we reckon the racks gone to+rear suspension & engine damage. The crazing had extended to the door latch on both sides & the doors were 5mm out of line. Even if your in the know, this car will need at least 10k to get right. Maybe i'm to blame, the night before the salvage company came to take her away i took all the mud,grass & debris form everywhere & gave her a warm bath & a final leathering off, just for old times sake gutted I'm sure the guy will trace the bullet via LEF & is welcome to contact me, i have bills for thousands & engine rebuild photos & all the info, i know this car inside out & wish him good luck. I have great respect for this car & the way i look at it, that night the car gave itself to keep me here & despite the massive impact, the cabin was undamaged & didnt even crack/shatter a piece of glass. Raise your glasses,To the Best Supercar ever made.............

  10. Thanks alot to all of you. The assessor has been & has confirmed the car is a write off, parts alone pushing over 12k.......& thats without finding any chassis damage. Anyway i'm going to save up some cash & buy a later V8 in 6months/year depending on cash situation & pay out amount. Thanks again & remember any V8 driver out there, when the weathers that bad, drive like the district nurse on her rounds!

  12. Hi Justin, Yes its me, we meet all over the place being serious petrol heads, thanks for your kind words. I'm happy that i'm still here as it could have been much much worse. Still feel very empty & although fully comprehensive, no cheque will replace my car & i'm just gutted it happened. After all the fun we had on the roads, You & i included, + Bibs riding shotgun back from yarmouth + track action on the monday, in a way i wish i'd fallen off the road whilst tearing about, at least then i could put my hands up & say, well thats what you get. Unfortunetly, this was a plain, case of wrong place,position,time etc & whoever was on that stretch of road wil confirm how bad it was, like rivers running. I'v concluded that the exact point i pressed the accellerator was when i entered the standing water,thus causing the wheels to aquaplane, the rest is history i'm afraid.

Hi all For anyone who may have passed what looked like a wrecked esprit on the M11 after the lotus factory day We were caught in the terrible weather conditions between junctions 7 & 8 on our way home. All traffic was moving slowly as you will know if you were there, i moved from the fast lane into the overtaking lane behind a BMW estate car, when he finally moved out of the way, my intentions were to move in front of him & return into the fast lane. Just as i past him at say 50mph, gently accellerating in fourth, the car hit a massive patch of standing water resulting from the weather conditions. The only way i can describe what happened next is this. it felt like an invisible foot had kicked the back end out toward the central reservation, such was the force of the spin i missed the barriers & spun across all three lanes gathering speed as the tires werent actually in contact with the road.We reckon it spun around 8 times in all. The car flew back wards into the hard shoulder before mounting the 2 foot wide drain kerb, then up the bank backwards, taking out a marker post before hitting a small tree at around 50/60mph & finally came to rest facing the wrong way on the 30 degree bank. Damage, well the front wheel snapped & bent the suspension badly, ripped off an oil cooler/front lower bumper,fog lights,both tires burst etc. The rear quarter hit the tree which ripped the body from the chassis mountings, the force was so great the engine has smashed the airbox housing & possibly torn from its mounts./roof damage. Both doors are fine but the body has moved around so far, its all stressed in situ thus causing them to jut out of position,crazing everywhere as you can inagine,exhaust & cats damaged from the impact,rear spoiler/lense smashed & the list goes on......& on I should count myself lucky as just a little way up the road i was told of another serious accident by the recovery driver where an audi was getting cut open by fire crews to remove the occupents & they may not have made it.I sincerely Hope they did. The back of my car kicked round & went with such violence there was nothing i could do but hold on for dear life. & trust me, flying backwards up a bank at those speeds with trees bringing you to rest is no pleasure. I know this car very well & in the dry at least know its limits based on driver training/track days etc. This accident however wasnt down to the fast driving that most were getting involved with over the weekend, we were just cruising home, tired & just rolling along with the flow of traffic. The car protected me extremley well & apart from a very bad back/dizzy spells i'm ok, just my heart thats broken. Like you all do, i lived & breathed this car & it was a sad end to a great weekend. I'd like to thank all who rang & e mailed to see how i was doing with similar storys & also Bibs,Laura & Kimbers etc.
