  11. On my 91 excel the vacuum advance advances the engine by a lot making the engine run fast idle it worked when cold but when the engine warmed up the vac advance reduces and the disi base plates move back to normal ignition and my car would cut out i removed the disi and put a little wire between the two base plates and that cured the problem there is a little bush that becomes oval and looses the earth connection that could be the problem it will cause misfire hope this helps andy b

  16. Fitting or removing will make no difference to cooling thats a high vacuum area. and air will be pulled out with forward motion.
  17. This is an old thread i replied to DEC 13 is anyone in touch with Brian Angus andy Hello All been off line for a long time to help with this i attended a lotus talk some years ago and one of the lotus employees who was head of the engine development told me that the S3 NA HC were sold in small numbers unfortunately i cannot find the exact number from the old e mail he sent me but i believe it was under 20 units. I remember telling a mate who has an S2/2.2 who has always said that it was the lowest volume Esprit and his retort was the S3 HC NA was never listed in lotus sales so it didn't count which is crap if lotus factory built and sold it then it must count. andy b Edited 6 Dec 2013 by andy b HA HA been away doing other things rubbish this is a really old thread just noticed the date LOL sorry all andy b
  18. Just thought i would share this with you all Jim Clark fast asleep in the 40
  19. Hi John Kirk is just building a new web site i have mailed him today funnily enough i have asked him if he can add a chat room to the new site and he thinks he can which will be cool. I have read loads about the 30 and it looks like the chassis was the first lotus spot welded and the consensus is they were not penetrating properly hence the failures but we are now 50 years on and with roll over bars and other safety bits they are fine. I even run slicks
  20. I wish i had a pound coin for every time i have heard that one and i think it was A J Foyt who came up with that. At least i have the one with the least amount of Mistakes LOL.
  21. Air it is LOL. Great car love the thing at cholmondeley it is only just over a mile may be mile and a half. i used 7 gallons of fuel on 8 runs she does like a bit of gin. Picture on post one thanks to John Andrews Freelance photographer.
  22. I am lucky enough to own a MK30 but there is no chat group for these cars and out of approx 36 cars built i can find only about 10 on my searches running world wide does anyone out there now of any owners or restorations going on at the moment. my direct mail is [email protected] as some people i now want to remain under the radar. Andy Bradshaw wales UK.
  23. I could not start my excel a while ago and it was the carb to manifold 0 rings leaking air so it pulled air in there and not through the carbs. just grab the carbs and pull up and down mine had to much movement so i replaced the 0 rings and the rubber cup washers that fix the carb to stud (not sure what they are called) No complaints though the first time i have replaced them in 90,000 miles. Had the excel from new. simple check but may help. andy b
  24. How old was the fuel it could be unburnt in the exhaust then when you put your foot down it blew, your comp is ok also just check the cam timing it may have jumped a tooth. andy b
