  1. With the Evora now off the road for the foreseeable, the one highpoint I could still look forward to in an otherwise dreary housebound day was getting out with the dogs for our 60 minutes or so of permitted freedom. It's great, because just across the road from my house is a huge expanse of abandoned peat moss surrounded by unmanaged woodland. Great for the hounds to have a mad time running around off-lead with minimal chance of meeting anybody else, and even if you do, there's ample opportunity to get yourself well out of their way. This was taken on yesterday's outing...... ....and this was taken on today's.................................. Clearly, setting fire to our wheelie bins has lost its initial excitement for our local scrotes.
  2. My condolences to you and your family, Mark.
  3. Thanks to the intransigence of the DVSA, this is all that will be seen of mine for at least the next 5 weeks, .
  4. I posted this yesterday on my Faceslap page but thought it worthy of a repost here, . I've just heard a doctor on TV saying in this time of self isolation due to Coronavirus, we should focus on inner peace. To achieve this we should always finish things we start and we all could use more calm in our lives. I looked through my house to find things I'd started and hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiumun srciptuns, an a box a chocletz. Yu haf no idr how feckin fablus I feel rite now. Sanding this to all who need inner piss. An them that luv them, . And two hash yer wands, stafe day avrybobby!!!
  5. Damn! I thought it would be completely cancelled so I've already arranged to wash my hair that day, .
  6. Clearly the sergeants' exam is a lot easier to pass these days and having an ounce of common sense actually puts you at a disadvantage.
  7. First available slot I can find for the MOT within a reasonable distance of home - 5th May!!! Booked, and so the long wait to regained mobility begins, .
  8. Not long off the phone having been 'on hold' with the DVSA since early doors. The Evora will be SORN'd as of Saturday night as they can't offer me any leeway. If the MOT had been due on or after the 30th then it would have been extended by 6 months automatically and the tax renewal would have gone through as normal. However since it expires on the 28th, I have only 2 choices - either get it MOT'd before the tax runs out so that it can then be renewed on April 1st, or the car MUST be taken off the road until such times as it can be MOT'd. No ifs, no buts, no maybes. I explained all that I described in my previous post above but their reply was that whilst they can sympathise with my predicament, the rules are hard and fast and there can be no exceptions - the have no 'magic' button that will allow them to override the system and allow me to keep the car on the road. They warned me that I would start pinging ANPR cameras and it would only be a matter of time before I attracted a Fixed Penalty Notice for having no tax. Oh well, looks like there's going to be one less truck restocking the local supermarket warehouses in the coming weeks. Think I'll declare myself as self-isolating and tap into whatever offer Mr Sunak comes up with shortly for us self-employed chaps and chapesses whilst I binge-out on daytime TV, .
  9. Received an email from her today - seems like an interesting person!!!!! Lotus-Forum <[email protected]> To: Alfa_2_Evora <**********> Lotus Forum Dear Alfa_2_Evora, „katrina“ sent you a message on Lotus Forum: Was denkst du über An*lsex ohne Kondom? Schreib mir -> I don't think you need much knowledge of the German language to get the gist of that!
  10. I'm carless, as of this coming weekend. The ALFA has been off the road since the beginning of the month awaiting the arrival of some transmission parts from Italy, plus the garage that has it is closing as from tomorrow night, so I'm not expecting it back on my driveway anytime in the foreseeable. It's MOT runs out at the end of September - I wonder if I'll have it back in time for that? The SAAB has its MOT due on the 29th of this month, but thanks to a pothole last week, it still needs a replacement rear spring and shocker - I've already successfully sourced the wheel and tyre it also needed. Unfortunately it's fitted with an uprated specialist suspension pack, neither of the 2 UK stockists of Hirsch Performance items has the parts in stock, and so we've now got to try and source it from the factory in Switzerland - not holding my breath there then either. Knowing my luck, the garage that has it will also now decide to close. The Evora has its MOT due on the 28th of this month, and was booked in weeks ago to have it done today. Since it was only an MOT and nothing else (the annual service, along with a pre-MOT once-over, was done last month) I simply booked it in directly with the same MOT station that our local (and only) Lotus indy takes them to rather than bother the indy with something that he then has to take to the third party anyway. The garage concerned phoned last night to tell me that they would have to cancel the test in the interests of staff safety, and because so many other MOT stations are also closing, I can't find anywhere that can take it for the next 5 weeks. So for the sake of 2 days, I can't take advantage of the 6 month automatic MOT extension that's in place from the 30th, and so keep my only serviceable car on the road and able to take me to my key worker role as a food delivery HGV driver - I work nights, starting at 9pm, and the depot is about 20 miles away in the middle of nowhere. Brilliant!!!!!
  11. I tried working from home today. It was a bit of a tight squeeze getting everything in but I think I just about managed it, .
  12. Our Utonagan girl, Macha, is so elegant when she's having some chill-out time alongside her daddy, .
  13. What's a warranty? When I bought mine from what was then Murray Lotus in Edinburgh, it was 4 years and 3 months old with 32k miles on the clock and all I got was 1 month's cover for 'major mechanical items'. This apparent 'confidence' in the car has been vindicated as 5 years (tomorrow) and a further 44k miles down the road, the only issue it has had was the clutch master cylinder failing about 18 months ago. There, that's me blighted it now - I'll go out tomorrow to give it a birthday thrash and the entire drivetrain will explode into a million bits, .
  14. @Dan E - here's a bit of info on it if you haven't found it already :
  15. I'm not scheduled to be working on Saturday night (things can and do change at short notice, unfortunately) so I'm going to say that I'm a 'definite maybe' for now.
  16. You do realise, Andy, that you would have to bring cars into stock that were painted in colours other than red and maybe even some that had (shock/horror) rear seats?
  17. Failing that, you could always adopt the JC approach to fitting in, .
  18. I'm with you on that, Andy. It's just not worth the effort - most of them will be so under-nourished that there wouldn't be any decent flesh to get your teeth into, just skin and bone.
  19. It's OK Andy. As Jennifer and I had none, if you wish to clear your conscience you can transfer a share of responsibility to us and reduce your apparent contribution to population growth by 50%, .
  20. Alfa2Evora

    Happy 2020!

    Happy New Year everybody.
  21. My Evora seems to have reached that time in its life when it is going to keep throwing up one minor niggle after another. Todays query - before I go ripping apart the centre console, does anybody know if the illumination (or in my case the lack of illumination) of the HVAC control knobs is a user-serviceable item, i.e. it's one or more bulbs, or is this control panel a sealed unit that will need replacing in its entirety? The button switches either side are still lit, and the controls all work - I just can no longer see the position of the settings on the damn things.
  22. Thanks for your suggestions guys. Didn't get a chance to do anything the past couple of days but when I went out to it today, it seems to have cured itself. Happy days, for now.
  23. That's what I thought at first but the car as been lying unentered, with a cover over it, since the start of the month and has several silica-gel bags strategically placed around its interior as a precaution against just such an occurrence. Everything seemed bone-dry when I got in so the apparent misting up inside the screen was a real puzzler. Even more puzzling is that after driving it round for over an hour, the patch has got bigger????
  24. I went out to take the Evora for a run today as she's been sat immobile for the past 3 weeks or so, partly due to the crappy weather and partly down to having wrecked my left ankle after 'finding' a hidden rabbit-hole whilst out running with the dogs. First thing I noticed when I got in was that the screen for the radio/nav has a discoloured area in the middle of it.......... Once the unit has 'fired-up', the patch is still visible but everything seems to work OK. Any ideas on what might have caused it and/or what can be done to rectify it?
