  1. Hello Ladies and Gents well quite a bit of an update the front end is almost complete. I now have the new rad and the brake system is complete and assembled and put back into the car. All i need to do now is pump up the tyres and low her down so i can measure the gap between the wheel and the arch so i can put her back in the air and tighten up the bolts :). Then i can tackle the rad :D.
  2. Hello all, I am in need of a pair of new discs for the Lotus. This is the only thing i am missing now for my front end and was wondering if anyone has any in there stock they are happy to part with. It looks like no one has them as of yet not until mid July and i cant wait that long so it will be seeing if you lovely lot have some if not it will be machining my old ones and putting them back on.
  3. Well i have my calipers back from Big Reds so i am loving them right now only problem is i have no discs to put them on with lol. Does anyone on here have a pair in there stock they are happy to part with? Also still having issues sorting out these ARB bushes.
  4. I need the tool to push these in with as i have destroyed one trying to get them in. Does anyone know how to do this?
  5. Hello all, Does anyone have the tool to put the big bushes in the centre of the control arms that one that the anti roll bar goes into for the excel. Just tried to do one today in a vice and press and it distroyed it.
  6. Good morning All, Does anyone know of a place that i can take my Rad to get repaired or reconditioned? Hoping there will be a place near oxfordshire or is there a rad that i can replace it with of the same fitment.

  9. So another little update this evening she has now got fresh oil and filter on her along with an airfilter and spark plugs i only stopped as the misses came out saying darling its 10 o'clock and your banging outside so was like shit well at least i have managed to do a couple of things and built up my 1960s work bench which is solid piece of craftmanship so i know that is going to last. I was however shocked on how slow it took to fill the engine with oil as 20w50 is so thick it took an age .
  10. Good evening ladies and Gents, Well this came today from SJ happy but also annoyed at the same time. All my parts that are here which i ordered last week and only turned up today which i had to call yesterday which if i hadn't i don't believe they wouldn't have turned up as they randomly said they will be shipped out today for delivery tomorrow. Why could they not have been shipped out sooner as the problem is now after going through all the bits there was not invoice with the bits but also my top control arm bushes are not with the shipment and i have arranged with my father in law to do all that this weekend at his engineering club so i am a bit pissed with that. The one thing that i really needed for this weekend apart from the cambelt is missing. The battery turned up from ordering yesterday so well happy with that as i have put it in the car and and the electric came on so exciting and she hardly has any fuel so result there for me and Stu to empty the tank tomorrow. I am hoping to have her running tomorrow for the first time in 17 years

  16. Hello Ladies and Gents, I need your help as i am close to pulling the little hair i have left out. I started tonight doing the ball joint bottom trying to get the bastard out would it come out no. I have used half a can of WD40 and heat for a long time close to red hot and still the bastard wouldnt budge. I got a spanner round it to guide it and smacked the shit out of the top with a hammer to try and knock it down and no go. Below is the other side does this go down to get it out? Also i have the inner tie rod but for the life of me i cant figure out how to remove it as it doesnt have anything to grip hold of no nut nothing. please help.
  17. Well the old girl has just had close to a grand thrown at her today :). I have just purchase all the below to get her head for the streets :D. I ended up contacting Lotus bits and SJ. Full service items including all belts, all filters and spark plugs Front upper and lower ball joints Front and rear shocks plus front springs inner and outter tie rods Discs and pads all round new bolts for everything above new brake pipes from caliper to hose front calipers sent off to be completely refurbed

  19. Hello Guys, As some of you know i am restoring my Excel SE. I have started stripping down the drivers suspension and i have taken the hub off and all is left is the shock, spring and lower wishbone. I cant seem to get the ARB out the way as there is a bolt at the front which i cant get to the back of the nut can someone help me with how this is done please. Hoping there is a video out there haha.
  20. Well great news Ladies and Gents. I bought some 20W50 oil today put a little down the into the boars. Got my leaver bar out to try and manually crank it over and it cranked over so easy hardly had to put any force into it so i am as happy as a Larry right now :D. I also started stripping down the front as i will need to change all the bushes extra and i am shocked on how easy they are currently being to come off. This car so badly wants to get on the road i can feel it.
  21. Thank you very much for this :). I will be trying to crank the car over tomorrow / Saturday. The car is now up on jacks in my driveway so it should be possible now to start work on it.
  22. Well the car is out of the garage for the first time in 18 years. She was put away just before March 2004 and now she has seen daylight. I now have her back home and i spent just over an hour pressure washing all the dirt and grime off her ready for the weekend. She does need some body work but the mechanical stuff is going to happen first then the body work can be done as and when. When we pulled the old girl out of the garage and she sat there like photo one i had to take a step back and look at her for a while. I felt like i was 5 years old again nabbing the keys and running out to the car sitting in the drivers seat and pretending to drive it. Now at the age of 33 she is now mine. So Saturday the plan is to get her as high up as possible on jacks and try to see if i can crank over the engine, by hand chaps don't worry to make sure the engine is ok. If anyone would like to come down during this project and lend a hand you are more than welcome and i would be hugely grateful. The biggest thing at the moment is getting someone down to do the cambelt. As that is the first thing i want to get done. I will know if it is worth carrying on with the project or not on Saturday when i try and turn the engine over i am sure it will be fine but you never know.
  23. Hi Chris, The tyres that are on currently are 205/50s so will probably go for the same. Ow i think it was pink floyd ha ha. It does need the black trim that is going around the centre. the trim that goes between the bumper and body as you can see from the photo 3rd and 5th from time and from the look of things bushes all round. With regards to the bushes what is everyone's recommendations poly or normal.
  24. Good evening all, Well after 17 years of it being sat in the garage today was the day it was prepared to come out. The tyres were flat but they are all now pumped up the interior was exactly the same as it was when i last saw it even smelt the same lol. I did check the intake to see if anything had made a home in there and its clear. I also checked the coolant and it was empty which i started to panic but then my dad said he emptied the coolant before putting it in the garage. I also checked the dipstick which was very low even if it was on the dipstick. From what my dad told me it had a slight leak and over the years it has dripped out. It has been in there so long that the car hasn't even had a MOT that you can check online yet all paper copies. The last time it was on the road was 2004. I have arrange to have arrange the car to be collected and it will be coming home next week. I cant wait to start working on it. First thing is to crack the car over manually to see if the engine is all good.
