  1. Couple of pics from an ‘82 ( before stripdown) in case it helps black cover already removed
  2. I would agree with Andy. The test I suggested was really to confirm that the pump DOES shut off with sufficient pressure, hence removing it from the mix. If so, and the pressure drop is beyond the solenoid, causing overfuelling, then it is has to be something in the carbs. out of interest Brett, was the gasket under that too cap a full area fibre type, or did it have passage ways cut into it? The one for the Turbo has holes, while the NA one is solid. Don’t think this changes your issue if pump still running, but it could allow splashback through the vents in the black cap? re-reading earlier suggestion, just unplugging the live from the stop solenoid to test the pump should avoid the need for clamping hoses IF the solenoid is working.
  3. Brett, can you not check the pump functionality by clamping the fuel hose before the carbs? I think it should shut off once it gets to a certain pressure? (Mine slowed as the floats got to the top before stopping). Could the shut off solenoid be causing any issues?
  4. I think the tops may be different to the turbo versions: the gasket for under the plastic cover, supplied in the refurb kit, is different, so not sure whether the Ally parts are identical.
  5. Some trials maybe before you take the fuel pipes off...Mainly as suggested above but... does the pump run for a while, then stop? If so After how long? did you disturb the solenoid shut off (in line past the filter on mine), and is it connected up properly? I made the mistake of painting mine and the body then failed to earth...you should hear it click when energised. Could one of these wires you weren’t sure about be the exciter for that? I don’t recall seeing part no 23 in mine, and I have no photos showing it..does it have a description?
  6. Link not working here now either. Was ok at 4am, so maybe keep trying? best I have here, unless I can send you something on messenger / fb?
  7. Sorry, the link should be accessible, search for sideways technologies if this doesnt work... http://sideways-technologies.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/1048-setting-dhla-dellorto-dellorto-float-fuel-level/ The appleby link is available off there I think. I’ll try and post the text separately. on the mixture screws, IF yours is an NA, then I’d try 6 full turns, and then an extra half (13 x half turns) per my eventual settings (I also had a note of the settings at this sort of level before I stripped the carbs). I did try 3 turns first, and like yours, mine wouldn’t fire at that level.
  8. On the last line of you original post, yes, everything should be done up tight, but I highly recommend that you take the tops off to measure the actual fuel level in the float bowls using the above guide (27mm down on average from the top of the centre stack) Terrified me at first, but It is a pretty essential step towards smooth performance running, and nowhere near as challenging as I first feared. Without it, many seem to suffer from misses and carb flutter at certain points in the rev range.
  9. Hi Damien, there has been some confusion in reading the manual in the past as to whether it’s 6x1/2 turns, or six AND a half turns... my N/A had a baseline of the latter, and ran both sweetly and economically. whip the tops off the carbs to check fuel presence/ level then Adjust as necessary using the following: https://www.theapplebyclan.com/Richard/Tiger Super6/Useful info/Dellorto/ oh, and I made a tube manometer about 1.3m tall using AtF as the fluid to balance the carbs ( the dial vac gauges I bought were shiote) which is about 15 times less dense/more sensitive than a mercury equivalent or Mogan carbtune, and cost about a fiver to make. godd luck!
  10. @PhilW, same boat here, although not so far down the dementia path and no recent losses. MIl is 38 miles away and doing her best, but we still have to do most of her shopping to keep her safe as she forgets about the touchy stuff We were in the middle of selling both houses to move into a house with an annexe so that we can take care of her when the time comes, but that is obvs now on hold, although we did a “virtual” viewing yesterday, so hope something might come of that
  11. I don’t know though ...all those Bootiful, Bootiful beaches
  12. The spirit of Les Dawson lives on 👍🏻😀..
  13. I suspect enforcing the former would take care of the latter 😉
  14. Exactly Bernard, although I actually only did the door section on my Esprit. Im sure it would flex/heat bend around any wheel arch profile, but if you mean bend around the corner, I’m not sure...Yo can heat it as it’s a thermoset type of plastic iirc, and it will take the new form once cooled, so that might be a way of getting round any tight sections. if you can get 1/4” (or 6mm) square polycarbonate bar locally it will even save the cutting... I’ll see if I have any pics..
  15. Chavs in Henley? Gone downhill since we left! 😉
  16. Bernard, I got hold of a sheet polycarbonate supplier who cut the 6mm sheets into 6mm strips for me. Much cheaper than buying the actual strips, especially if you can get them locally, with the benefit of their being more flexible and un-drilled so you can choose where to put the fixing points. May help if you’re working around any curves. You might also be able to do it in a single run? they’re fixed with special countersunk head rivets available from SJ sportscars
  17. Much more fun getting him to check that your plug leads are working...😱 .....ask me how I know
  18. And on a lighter note... A suspected Covid-19 male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A young student female nurse appears and gives him a partial sponge bath. "Nurse,"' he mumbles from behind the mask, "are my testicles black?" Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, "I don't know, Sir. I'm only here to wash your upper body and feet." He struggles to ask again, "Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?" Concerned that he might elevate his blood pressure and heart rate from worrying about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and pulls back the covers. She raises his gown, holds his manhood in one hand and his testicles gently in the other. She looks very closely and says, "There's nothing wrong with them, Sir. They look fine." The man slowly pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her, and says very slowly, "Thank you very much. That was wonderful. Now listen very, very, closely: "Are - my - test - results - back?"
  19. Could this be why the G-Tech ventilators were put on hold? F1 to the rescue? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52087002
  20. I guess the plan is to supply the paper by cutting down the New Forest to stop ppl gathering there....about as much use as filling a pond with dye
  21. Also looks like a 3 digit number, possibly 100, but I can’t enhance, so I asked the Q . Let’s see if the op responds. pointed him here anyhow...
  22. ...and there you have the decision. a sanctioned Lotus purchase? You lucky, Lucky man 🤣. if anything ever goes wrong, you can always say “I told you we should have got the Excel”
  23. But I bet it felt Damn Good at the time?! 🍾🏆🏆
  24. Have a good search through the Esprit section if you haven’t already. Someone had exactly this problem within the last year and, iirc, there was quite a good follow up. Good luck!
