  1. U.K. S4s are comparatively rare, last time I looked there was about 60 in total, and there are more GT3’s. Despite the higher number of S4 cars having been built, they don’t seem to come up for sale as often.

In my view, £50K for an S4s is just flying a kite. It would have had to be a total body-off rebuild, plus engine and gearbox rebuilds for that kind of money. Ultimately, the car will only be worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, and right now I would say an S4s would be between £30k £40k, depending on condition and work done. That’s just a guess though, as there’s not much to go on right now.

You have to be patient when buying, the rareness means they don’t come up for sale that often, and just remember all that glitters is not necessarily gold!

As much as it pains me to have to do it the original Delco Moraine master cylinder has gone back in this evening, just got to finish setting the pedal as per the manual. Hopefully @Chillidoggy will manufacture some more of his kits in the future so I'll be able to replace it.

I also got most of the way through putting the bumper back on. The paint match isn't very good, but the picture seems to make it look at lot worse than it actually is in person. Hopefully it will improve somewhat when I've wetsanded and polished it up. Not much more I can do about it now until I can find a better bumper.

There valance needs a few minor repairs before it can go back on, but that won't stop me finishing off the oil coolers and plumbing in the radiators next.

Its starting to look more like an Esprit again 🙂

Let me know if/when the Delco situation gets serious. I may have an option.

Nope, my mistake, that's the ACDELCO 215-153 without the purge solenoid. Doesn't look like they have 215-163 or the GM 17092109 one. Do you have a link to the actual one Ian?

No direct link, I'm afraid. They may be OOS at Rock Auto but best to message them, they're normally pretty quick at replying.

And those were the correct P/N's.

  4. Prior to my own purchase, I asked myself the question ‘could you afford to rebuild it if the engine blew up?’

A 4-pot, yes, and indeed I’ve just fully rebuilt mine. Total cost for the engine was £3.5K. A V8, no. I’d just sell the car where it stood.

After driving them, and if I had to choose all over again, it would be an S4, then GT3.
